What incentivizes you to pay money for early access games? Wouldn’t you rather wait until it’s done and have a better experience?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

Do I pay full price for games before they are available to play and are most likely not going to be finished upon release? No.

Preordering anything with no real or artificial scarcity doesn’t really make financial sense. It’s a predatory sales tactic to get people to part with their money sooner, in this case before customers have a chance to use software that is pretty much unreturnable. Gaming publishers love digital preorders because some customers end up paying full price for games they don’t even like and can’t even resell.

Sadly, for at least the last ten years or more, most non-online games are best played a few years after release date when they’ve had their bugs fixed or their ‘complete edition’ released.

If they had critical thinking skills, we wouldn't have Trump as president.

I don't understand why you're getting downvoted. Labor laws in China are shit. A ton of people there work way more than 40 hours a week for less money than US Americans get, live on company "campuses", and have suicide nets.

I encourage you to take a college course from a non-religious university that covers any of the above subjects.

The Sound Guys do a good job of breaking down LDAC, however the main point of criticism I have about the article is that they say that LDAC isn't great because most smartphones don't auto-choose the highest 990 bitrate. That doesn't seem like an LDAC problem, that seems like a phone problem. My phone is admittedly a Sony, but it always chooses the highest bitrate first. There's even a setting to force it to use 990.

The other criticism I have is that the sound guys kind of overlook the fact that, when your phone is in your pocket, it's close enough to the headphones that you'll almost always get the 990 bitrate. And the sound quality at 990 is fantastic. I cannot tell a difference between it and a wired connection for CD-quality FLACs. Even the 660 stepdown bitrate of the LDAC codec is really good.

Here is part of the text of the bill:

SEC. 3. Judicial review.

(a) Right of action.—A petition for review challenging this Act or any action, finding, or determination under this Act may be filed only in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

(b) Exclusive jurisdiction.—The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any challenge to this Act or any action, finding, or determination under this Act.

Here is part of the summary:

A challenge to any action, finding, or determination under the bill must be brought with 90 days of the action, finding, or determination.

I read the law, and I disagree with you that the president can simply declare a social media company to be foreign-adversary controlled and shut it down with an EO. At the very least there is an appeals process that would go through DC court of appeals for any accused social media company. I am not a lawyer though, so I could be wrong. Either way, I think it gives the president too much power.

But this doesn't change the fact that ByteDance is still being manipulated by the president for power and propaganda purposes; that seems pretty clear to me when searches critical of trump came up empty on accounts using US IP addresses, as opposed to non-US accounts or US accounts using a VPN.

We have lost our rights, had our rights restricted, or have had our rights routinely violated on the following issues:

  • bodily autonomy -- abortion

  • unreasonable search and seizure -- the federal government (FBI, NSA) digitally track everyone. Cops can legally take your money and property without cause or due process. Cops selectively enforce laws. State attorneys general selectively enforce laws. The TSA (airport security) is arguably unconstitutional.

  • torture and indefinitely imprisoning people without charging them with a crime.

  • trans people's right to bodily autonomy, freedom of liberty, equal rights, equal access to healthcare, etc. Florida is forcibly putting trans inmates in with inmates of the opposite-gender and forcing trans people into conversion therapy. Trans people are facing widespread persecution and legislative genocide, depending on the US state. States are trying to make being trans a crime by calling them "sexually obscene". I fully expect the federal government will try to do the same, as it's part of the Project 2025 playbook.

  • our court system is overall corrupt and corrupt judges do not rule based on facts, science, what the law says, what is morally right, or what is best for the people.

  • the right to a speedy trial is being violated. The right to have a public defender adequately represent you when accused of a crime is being abused and violated.

  • slave labor is allowed and legal in this country. Prison inmates are allowed daily temporary release to work for private companies but then the prisons and government steal most of their earnings.

  • our human right to a clean environment is being violated. Our water, air, and land is being polluted with a lack of regulation and oversight.

  • rights of immigrants, asylum seekers, and others is routinely violated and now, once again, millions of people are being threatened with deportation.

  • black people have never had equal rights in this country. I can't even begin to list the extent of their oppression here. Racism is on the rise politically now too.

I could keep listing points for hours, if not days.

Yep. Late-stage capitalism incentivizes and rewards unethical behavior.
