I think you would need another connection (ie. a 3rd stripe, TRRS vs TRS cable) for data transfer. Although digital audio is all data anyways I guess and now I don't even feel right but I've already typed it out.

Exactly... pressure from boards to monetize and CEOs being told to do it but whose skills that got them there don't transfer
This is really the biggest part. There isn't room for the future right now, gains need to be realized to pay other investments and if not portfolios leaned out.
Or go deeper until you understand them all
