Emacs (Doom), everything from small notes to big software projects.
sacredbirdman
I tried it.. realized that the format pretty much precludes anything I'm interested in watching and that was it. Clearly I'm not in the target audience.
I used to have a sacred birman cat .. now I commune with birds.
If you use Firefox, password manager stores its data encrypted (not in plain text). You can also turn on the master password requirement if you like.
I watch a lot of stuff that I guess isn't really favored by the algorithm and would probably do well elsewhere but are there because Youtube is just so all-encompassing like.. category theory for programmers, video manual for my synth, some very specific DIY-stuff (like how to scrape oboe reeds). But I've replaced most of my time on Youtube with listening to podcasts and reading..
I'm waiting for a few days of peace and quiet..
They certainly do. That's how they extract value from every visitor, by gathering information, showing targeted ads, gamifying the experience to try to hook the visitors. Therefore every attempt to give more power to the end users and diminish the power of the companies will be opposed by them. The only hope would be for the devs and end users to understand this problem and push the adoption at the grassroots level.
My personal view (not connected to the project) is that most of the functionality that JS provides that is in the interest of the user could be provided in a declarative manner (dynamic fetching / displaying of data, menus, tabs, etc) without the need for a scripting engine. Something akin to Phoenix' Liveview or Laravel Livewire (those can do a lot of things without writing any custom javascript). If we could keep at least parts of those but drop all the malfeatures that JS is used for (scams, tracking, fingerprinting, pop-overs, modifying existing UI behaviour like scrollsbars, cryptominers, autoplaying music/videos, etc.) I think we could have majority of the good parts and minority of the bad. I'll keep my eyes on the project :)
Most of the time when I'm outside I'm wearing outdoorsy/hiking clothes. But then I'm usually just walking around in the nature talking to crows and taking photographs. So, I pick whatever suits the weather =)
Unhook, it removes suggestions, recommendations, video walls etc. from Youtube. This limits my youtube usage to what I actively search for.. no endless scrolling/binging which is the root of unhappiness.
Sounds like they're not going away yet. But if youtube really manages to shut it down.. that's going to cure my youtube addiction.
