You need to understand the his statement rather than taking out of context.
It's like Messi will be the only person in that row. But KDB can sit beside his row with many great players too for what he has done. He did not say he will be sitting alone.
Most attackers do the heavy lifting in defence too.
He is not playing as midfielder exactly. Ancelotti though found his strength and utilizing him like that. He is like secondary striker or attacking midfielder for them. But yeah his number is good but so do several striker.
If he was playing for us and you, everyone would be calling him best in the world.
