One big difference is the US is one of the few countries that doesn't have a strong data privacy tradition. As a result you get ad-hoc bans on individual companies rather than holding all companies liable for mismanagement of user data. How does TikTok satisfy the UK data protection people that user data is correctly managed.

That was a trip down memory lane. I think a lot of the engineers that worked at Transmeta ended up in places like Intel (and maybe Apple?) which tracks with them being an early pioneer in managing power envelopes.
Signal is the non-corporate replacement for What's App although realistically you end up having both due to network effects.
Looks like they did well. All of the attacks required physical access and glitching the chip. That should be good enough for a lot of use cases.
I watched the first episode and it was amusing whimsy but certainly nothing special. I didn't bother with the rest of the series.

Fascinating article and goes to show quite how many ways evolution can solve the same problem.
My UK rates are about £0.26/kWh for the day rate, £0.07/kWh for the night rate which is when things like car charging is done. Excess solar generation makes me £0.15/kWh I send back to the grid although not much of that going on in the winter ;-)
We also pay a daily standing charge for the grid connection.

One of the most interesting applications of AI I've seen for film recently is the ability to re-dub actors with their own voice in different languages while maintaining lip synch. That's something that could have a positive effect on accessibility to the medium without the language barrier.
