In my opinion, the event is going to be a letdown. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent card and I'll watch it - and some of the fights might be great - but was anyone else expecting a balls to the wall event where money was no object?
In fact, they said the event was (financially) going to be a loss (meaning, they were willing to pay whatever it took to make it great.. I think?). Dana himself said it would be "the Sphere on steroids"!
My main issues with it are:
-
No Jones or McGregor Both are well past their prime, but they're still undeniably the biggest superstars in the sport. Jones vs Pereira, McGregor vs Chandler, Jones vs Gane, McGregor vs Nate Diaz. So many possibilities.
-
Topuria vs Gaethje Does anyone else not expect this to go longer than 2 rounds? I'd rather see this headline another numbered PLE. It's not a very interesting fight imo, but who knows, maybe Justin will surprise us.
-
O'Malley vs Zahabi Again, not a bad fight, but why couldn't they convince Yan to come over for this and avenge his loss to Suga?
-
Ngannou is right there Maybe he's difficult to deal with, but no way is Ngannou more of a problem/liability than Bones. The heavyweight division is on its ass right now, it needs Francis. Now he has signed with MVP, which was probably the smarter thing to do to be fair.
-
No Schevchenko, no Nunes Why not pair them up for a trilogy fight? It's arguably as interesting as Harrison/Amanda, and Schev will want to get one back.
-
Diego Lopes again I have nothing against Diego, but in the last few years he's had huge opportunities at UFC 300, UFC 306 (Sphere), and two unnecessary title opportunities vs Volkanovski. Why? Maybe he's bringing in more PPVs or something, I don't know.
Anyone else feel the same? There's a legit chance the only American who will win at the White House will be the winner of the Nickal/Daukus fight, only because they're both American 😂

Looks like that listing is gone now. Here's a few others.
