this doesn't really matter, I just find it interesting but Android was initially based on Gentoo, not entirely from the ground up. unsure about ChromeOS, I'm sure they did a lot more leg work having more financial backing at this point.

you can set up email forwarding from Gmail to a new account if that makes things any easier for her

can I... hear her argument? I just wanna know what fallacy has concocted here lol. not trying to be insulting to your wifi or anything, just bantering a little bit, I've come across some that believe adblocking is piracy though, and I'm curious.

even if you are someone who subscribes to the mindset "nothing to hire, nothing to fear", kids can't make that decision yet, themselves so I've always found it nice when people don't include their kids on socials until they're at least a teenager or so, granted I don't have kids, this is just from a bystanders pov.

family vlog channels back in the day always left a bad taste in my mouth.

slightly off point here but, god I hate the term 'neoliberal'. the definition is so far from what you would think based on the word alone, it almost seems intentionally misleading. I have the same gripe with "reactionary politics".

idk when people will realize that capitalism is not conducive to having businesses that are respectful to their consumers and environment, no matter the amount of ill-understood, retrospective regulations you slap on.

EDIT: honestly, I think most people have realized, but the people with the power to change it are the people gaining.

I mean, I'm not in any better of a camp. all of my friends refuse to get off discord.

I've literally never met anyone that even knows what it is, although I thought it would be obvious just based on how people talk that I was speaking anecdotally and not from literal statistics. I come across Facebook messenger somewhat commonly but never Whatsapp.

anonymity, privacy, and security are not inclusive of the other and anonymity is not in scope of signal. SimpleX would be a better option if that's your goal, although being in beta still, I can't fully recommend it

as long as you have a firewall via iptables or something similar forcing everything through the VPN only, you should be fine I would think.

if not I'll have to change my configs a lot lol.

congrats you're an outlier I suppose. I've only met maybe 5 people that know what Whatsapp is. telegram is marginally more popular but only because a lot of drug dealers use it (they would have better luck with matrix or even signal)

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago (14 children)

Matrix or Signal only for me. nobody uses Whatsapp here in the states, sms is simply insecure in every way, and telegram has very suspicious roots imo, along with a lack of e2ee and a terrible ui.

signal is the most secure option and matrix is federated making it the most "open" option.
