This is Harvard Health Publishing, they say I need about 0.8 grams of protein everyday, now, that means I would have to consume about 70 grams of protein everyday (minimum) to stay healthy, now, I live in India and don't consume that much, but I consider myself pretty healthy.

So, what's the amount one should realistically be aiming towards? If I were to take 70 grams of protein everyday, what measurable changes can I expect in my life🤔?

Went to visit this godforsaken place and was terrified by the amount of racist/xenophobic/nazi/misogynistic/incel/far-right posts and comments.

Was it always like that? Am I too used to being on Lemmy (or Fediverse in general)? Is it just my feed or is it like this for everybody?

Considering things like modern medicine not being available, infant and child mortality, the gruesome nature of most work back then... would a "standard" commoner from back then laugh at how 'soft' our world has become from their point of view?

What can we infer from people's mindsets and resilience back then vs now, and do you think we're on the verge of a return to these conditions?

I think techno-feudalism has the capacity to be much more brutal than any old time machiavellan clown. The way our minds are deliberately manipulated by algorithms nowadays are much more subtle and insidious than anything the tyrants of yesteryear could've dreamt up, while at the same time convincing people they have it better than ever.

i’d like to make one but i don’t know how to code, for one, and also don’t know if it’s something i can just make on my ipad or if it needs a lot of resources.

By "favorite fictional character" I don't mean "favorite character of your favorite fiction", consider the media itself to be irrelevant.

Just consider the character itself and how it changes throughout whichever segments of its timeline, regardless of how the world moves around it (unless it's relevant);
the show / book / comic / game / political campaign itself may be absolute trash, but you love some character from that more than any other character from anything at all.

Like Magnifico from Wish, or the driver from Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

So, I have a Threema license, but from what I've seen its encryption isn't post-quantum. Signal's encryption seems the strongest. I host my own matrix server.

Also, I kind of don't care where the servers are or which provider it is. Everything is encrypted anyway.

I know depression usually has a grave cause and astronauts have quite an active schedule. But say their family dies. Depression makes you think and perceive time differently. Surely wouldn't it become a risk to the mission? You can't steamroll over it...

I have an old Samsung notebook, it has been with me for more than 10 years. In recent years I had to change the OS from Windows 8.1 to Linux (KDE Neon), the change has been great and it is running better than ever. The thing is, no matter how much I make change the software, the hardware remains the same. I would like to make some improvements, but from what I have seen, I would only be able to change the SSD it has for a larger one and little more, since the RAM is part of the motherboard.

However, is it possible to expand it or change it for more RAM? I think I have seen that it was possible, buT more delicate and complicated, is it true? Would it be worth to look for someone who can make the upgrade?

In media, there are sometimes stories where a person is cloned/duplicated (usually with identical memories) and the clone is murderous towards the original. Usually it's something like "I knew there could be only one of us, and you would do the same". Sometimes, they're able to work things out and can share a single public identity, or duplication gives one copy a chance to do go off and live a new life that they always wanted.

How would you and your duplicate get along? Assume you are living like you do today, in a society where duplication is unheard of and has no legal precedent.

Is there a way to specify fewer posts from a community without leaving/turning off posts completely?

I have a few that seem to overwhelm my feed, and while I’d like to see some content, I’d rather it not drown everything else out.

TIA.

I can see that sh.itjust.works has a conservative community like lemm.ee and lemmy.world does; but I'm not able to access it from lemmy.ml via federation. Does this mean that Lemmy now capable of federating at a community level?

I miss malls. I miss the dynamic nature of them. I miss exploring them. I miss seeing all the things that people could buy. I miss the atmosphere. I miss the fountain you throw your pennies in. I miss meeting so many different people. I miss the escalators. I miss the joy of going into the mall pet shop and seeing the animals warm up to you. I miss sitting at the food courts, eating my weirdly quality pizza and taking in the ambiance. Hell, I miss getting lost in malls.

One of the things that feels like a stab in the heart as an aspiring parent is I will never be able to take my kids to the mall and have them experience the same experience. I look at malls now and want to cry. Look at me, a commie crying over a pillar of capitalism. That's how much of a friend malls were to me, yet nobody I know will say they relate.

For me, commercial social medias: they make money by spreading hate, violence, authoritarianism and misinformation.

Their lyrics aren't particularly deep, the vocals aren't exactly showing a wide range of pitch or even emotion, originality between songs is mostly lacking, and though the backing is pretty boss, the main melodies are on the verge of being nursery rhymes....

... and yet I adore this band, with their smooth and entrancing synth, simple lyrics sung with Helen Marnie's silky enticing northern/scottish accent.

I can't shake the idea that I'm listening to low quality barely thought out music, but I also can't shake the idea that anyone's trying to sell me on them either.

They just put out these WYHIWYG songs, and there's this sense of raw honesty to their bleak and bland style that really jams with me.

Music without pretense, subtext, or reference. Just music. I love it.

Time box chatting is the art of cutting a conversation that bores you without the other part feeling offended. I need to master this art for the workplace.

Context: This post is intertwined with my last one about how extroverts function. The most upvoted post is about how this is not an intro-extroversion issue, but antisocial-social one. Another one is about how matching communication styles with coworkers lowers walls and the recommended way is to time box chat. There are coworkers I don't need to practice this charade with because they're genuine and are, like me, analytical and not needy. The problem I have with are the emotional ones, to me still childish.

If tomorrow at the workplace I ask one of the emotional ones how is she doing, she's going to believe I'm either f*cking with her, I’m trying to sell her something, I'm having some kind of seizure or I'm on drugs. These are people I have nothing in common with, so I don't know how the conversation should go after initial contact. Just a sample of what they talk about:

"I like your eyelashes so much"

"I'm getting an IUD so I can have sex with my boyfriend without condoms"

"you have so pretty shoes"

"you don't have a boyfriend? I'll help you get one"

It’s never 2 minutes of conversation and let’s get to work, it’s at least 30 minutes, longer if they decide to go smoking and my boss belongs to this group and enjoys the attention. What past me did is stay there like a moron, not contributing because what the heck am I supposed to say to any of that? and eventually leave to work on my own, because they bore me. And they felt offended when I did that. The longest I can listen to this kind of inane conversation is 30 seconds. I don’t believe I can make the 2 minute mark. And even if I make it to the 2 minute mark I don’t want it to be longer than that and I don’t want them talking to me after those 2 minutes.

Kudos to all introverts and quiet ones who can navigate this. I cannot.

ETA: drama is the only reason why I’m quitting this job, I already have a new one elsewhere, effective in 4 weeks, so this is the perfect time to experiment with whatever you can think of because I have nothing to lose.
