New Bug Of The Day :)

Step to reproduce: set all settings for all accounts to blur nsfw content ; subscribe to an nsfw sub ; when a post appear (as intended as a nsfw gray square) click on the name of the author - results : all the post history of the author is uncensored.

Edit: same happen if I click on the subbed community from the left panel.

Good luck with this one, and as ever, thanks and congrats for your good work and dedication.

When you reveal a spoiler the black rectangles go away and it then renders the text in white, but on a white background (light coloured theme) The text renders is exactly the same colour as the background and so you can not see it unless you highlight the post, this renders the background of the post as light grey and there is just about enough contrast difference to now read the text.

When spoiler text is revealed it should render in the same colour as normal text. I'm not sure why it's white.

See images below for demonstration.

spoiler text is hidden

spoiler text has been revealed but is invisible

text post is highlighted and now you can see the spoiler text rendered in white

Can we get an option to change the behaviour of the Android Back button when using the in-app browser?

My preference would be that it would act like a browser back button and take me back a page if I've browsed beyond the initial page I went into the browser for. The in-app back button at the top left would still always take me back to the post or post list like it currently does. Additionally, I'd prefer that the Android never brought me out of the browser, even if I was on the initial page, but some people might not like that.

Or... Having a dedicated browser toolbar with back, forward, refresh and the url would be ínteresting.

Thanks for the awesome app!

Why lemmy.ml posts act this way? apparently i am not the only one suffering from this

Is there a way to block those bots that just directly link recent Reddit posts from similarly named subs? Or is this a feature you would consider implementing in the future, if feasible? There's generally no interaction on these posts. They get spammed in batches it seems, which clogs my feed, so I'd rather just not see any of them.

It would be nice if browsing an instance as guest would allow post bookmarks, and mark scrolled posts as read and hide read posts, then if possible a feature to export those preferences (at least the bookmarks) locally. The problem arised when i couldnt get an account for Lemmygrad and wanted to consume its content, browsing as guest didnt allow posts to be bookmarked, alsoread posts couldnt be hidden so each time i browse as guest i get the already seen posts. Seems fancy but would appreciate if implemented. Thanks a ton.

I've been trying the various clients and like Connect the best so far. However, one thing I am seeing is that Connect doesn't pull in the post comments from lemmy.world while the others do. Connect says something about API error.

I know lemmy.world had some issues recently with the comments, but it seems odd that other apps are pulling them in just fine while Connect is not.

I'm not seeing this with any other instances.

Just wanted to share the data point.

Thanks

Connect 1.0.150 Released (self.lemmyconnect)

Hi, this update is mostly focused on some performance updates to Image rendering and memory management. I stripped out the old plugin I had doing this and am now handling things a bit more manually. Hopefully this should improve the experience of long scrolling sessions. I did refactor a lot so if you see any bugs here please let me know! Large new additions in this release are URL domain filters, and video zoom. I'm starting work on settings import/export but it's not ready just yet.

Added

  • Added URL Domain filters
  • Added video zoom (double tap, pinch)
  • Added a link icon to posts without thumbnails
  • Added None as a comment long press action
  • Better handling when proxied comment resolve fails

Fixed

  • Fixed voting on posts refreshing the video player
  • Fixed some issues with image heights not fitting correctly
  • Minor hotfix to change the link icon on posts to be centered and not left aligned
  • Improved the list of subscriptions for large lists
  • Fixed an issue where images would sometimes not free from memory
  • Fixed photo view not expanding
  • Fixed a small screen flash on image expand
  • improved performance of large images
  • All Snackbars now last for 5 seconds
  • Fixed markdown not loading in some cases when it should
  • URL confirmation prompt now also applies to external links
  • Fixed an issue with switching accounts when uing an email to log in
  • Fixed an issue with Spoiler tag sometimes not appearing
  • shouldInstanceBlockIncludeUsers no longer defaults to on
  • Fixed reply swipe gesture
  • Improved freeing of memory in some cases for preloaded images
  • Fixed comment navigator when showing all comments
  • Create comment screen no longer has discard prompt if drafts are enabled

Thank you everyone for all of the support and suggestions, please keep them coming and we'll continue to make Connect the best app for browsing Lemmy!

Hello and thanks for the great work on connect.

Just some feedback for gifs in connect. I use the latest version 1.0.141 on android.

There seems to be an issue regarding data consumption. I realized that the app uses huge amount of data when playing gifs. So I tested and an embedded gif that was consuming almost 200mb in the app actually only consumes 40mb when played in Firefox on the original hosting website.

Also the app is quite huge with 0.9 gb on the phone storage. Is this normal? This seems to be alot for an app thats probably doesn't have to cache much data.

It would be awesome if you could have a look into this.

Many thanks

... Edit: spelling

Since the much earlier version of this app, the sidebar has been basically unusable, it almost completely freezes up anytime I do anything on it. Is there any fix for this? Is this a know issue? What's going on?

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how the sidebar renders my subscriptions. As soon as they load everything in the sidebar takes forever.

This is the thing that has kept me from using this app despite basically being theost feature rich lemmy app.

On beta (from the g play store) 1.0.144 I can't zoom on pictures anymore. Pinch doesn't work, double-tap neither. I've disabled all gestures/tap actions in case the touchscreen registered something wrongly.

Pics only occupy 1/3 of screen if clicked from List view; shows full screen from Card view. It's the same on 3 different accounts on 3 different instances - can't zoom in or out.

Thank you for your commitment to Connect and Lemmy.

When I open the post itself the spoiler text is hidden but in the main scrolling view the cards display the spoiler text

I would like to be able to export the settings I have for Connect so in case I ever have to reinstall this app I can restore all the settings I had for it instead of redoing everything manually.

I often vote/save/hide posts by accident so I turned off global swipe actions, however I noticed I can still swipe on posts.

I shared a post on lemmy.world with someone today, but the post url was https://slrpnk.net/post/1690717. Is this maybe because the person who posted it has their account there?

As a former user of RiF, one thing I used a lot was filtering out media / sites I don't want to hear from, places I don't trust etc.

It would be a fantastic addition to keywords and users/communities blocking already in place. Like I don't want to see stuff from youtube, for instance. Or the Daily Mirror...

Keep up the good work, so far Connect is my favorite app to lurk the lemmyverse!

My phone coverage stopped for a period. I was using connect at the time and a comment failed. I initially thought it was a big but noted after restarting, it still was out. Then I checked with a test search to find it was all internet.

A few minutes later internet was back. Went back into Lemmy and refreshed. No data showing. I checked down-for-me for my instance and it was up. Refreshed again. No data.

Again restarted app and it was fine then. So, it seems he connection outage did not allow refresh after it came back, despite a restart during the outage.

This is just a super nice to have: Custom plugin support. ie: Something to think about during this stage of development as this app matures further.

As the Lemmy community grows, there are new functions that are getting released as separate apps and as open source that would be nice to incorporate into the "core" Connect app. Since our hailed dev probably has a life and a job outside of Connect development, it would be nice to be able to develop features outside of the main branch without causing too many headaches.

From a legal perspective, OSS licenses could be maintained separately from the main code branch which should push any liabilities to the third party developer. (I no lawyer, but this seems to make sense.)

Things like account sync between instances, custom community sorting and listing, blocking management (outside of filters and such) and many other on-a-whim features would be nice to develop on the side. The possibilities are endless. The core app could even stay closed source for now, which is totally cool at this stage.

The best functionally of all is that I could develop, test and YOLO new features myself without breaking everyone else on a global scale. If third party features become decent enough, they could possibly be implemented into Connect "core" at a later time.

I am fully aware this could cause a fundamental redesign of the application as a whole, so there is absolutely no rush. (TBH, I am thinking the implementation time of this request could take a couple of years.) Personally, I am a fan of applications that are somewhat modular so that is my bias.

Cheers, stay happy, stay healthy!

Connect should integrate with the android share menu.

The community selector should suggest the previously used community first.

The post title should be automatically filled from the linked site.

322

I like everything else about the app, but it's frustrating not to be able to set my subscriptions as the default feed.

323

Would be cool to have the option to still see posts I've seen in the relevant community, but hide them from the feeds

324

Sketchy when it just says whatever and then goes to some random site. Could literally be anything on the other end.

It appears to be white text on white background, making it unreadable. But tapping on it once makes it right
