The biggest change is good news for Urza's Saga fans and bad news for Blood Moon fans

Rules Update: Sagas

Speaking of Sagas, we're making a small but impactful rules update with this release. With the advent of Saga creatures, it's much easier to get into a situation where a Saga on the battlefield loses all of its abilities but is still a Saga enchantment. The result of this interaction was previously unintuitive to many players: since that Saga had no chapter abilities, the game defined the "greatest number among its chapter abilities" as zero, and no matter how many lore counters that Saga had on it, it would be sacrificed as a state-based action once it wasn't the source of a chapter ability on the stack (usually right away).

Starting with the release of Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY, we're updating the rules: If a Saga has no chapter abilities, it won't be subject to the state-based action that would cause it to be sacrificed due to how many lore counters it has. Similarly, it won't be subject to the turn-based action that adds a lore counter to each Saga you control at the beginning of your first main phase each turn. For example, if your Summon: Bahamut with one lore counter on it loses all abilities because someone attaches Observed Stasis to it, it'll won't gain lore counters via the turn-based action until it has chapter abilities again (probably because you removed the Observed Stasis somehow.)

For those in the US, CardKingdom and CoolStuffInc are alternative online retailers. There are also many large stores that also have their own web shops where TCGPlayer doesn't get a cut. And of course supporting your FLGS is always a great option if you have one

Feel free to drop more suggestions of alternatives in the comments

If anyone has tips or resources for drafting I'd love to hear them!

I've been playing paper magic for a few years but never played any limited. I didn't really understand the appeal. But my brother convinced me to try Arena and I had a draft or quick draft token and now I am hooked. But I also kinda suck at draft.

I think my goal is to be good enough to break even ish on gems so I can draft a lot without spending a lot. I'm okay spending while I learn ($60 so far... (probably only $25 towards drafting)).

I think I have most of the basics down. Stuff like 17 ish lands, 13 ish creatures, a good mana curve, prioritize removal and land fixings.

I find myself doing research online of people's favorite sets to draft and wondering if I'll ever get to draft it. I saw Neon Dynasty is coming up on the schedule and I'm very excited to draft it. I enjoyed Dragonstorm and am enjoying Ixalan. I feel like my first 3 or so drafts of a set go pretty terribly. They're fun still, but it also stinks to lose $5 so fast...

I'm hesitant to do anything besides quick draft because of the stronger competition and bigger downside to losing quickly. But I don't want to stay this way. Ideally I'd quick draft to learn a set and then switch to premier. But I also don't want to miss out on what's available - right now Mix-Up Draft and Core Set 2021. I'm tempted to try both, but feeling like maybe I should stick to a set I know until I develop skills?

OK, so weird rules question: how do you track commander combat damage for two commanders that each have partner and that meld with each other? When the melded commander does combat damage to a player, is that a third combat damage track, does it go towards the un-melded combat damage trackers, or does something else weird happen?

This is absolutely a strange rules question, since not a single card on Scryfall would seem to run into this scenario, but for Pride Commander, all commanders are given the partner keyword, so you can run into this case with commander partners like Fang, Fearless l'Cie and Vanille, Fearless l'Cie, both of which meld into Ragnarok, Divine Deliverance. Similarly, Gisela/Bruna.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

As far as I can tell, TCGplayer has a workers union, but management has never been happy about it. This week I've been seeing some alarming social media posts - made it sound like management had literally brought in the Pinktertons to rough up the employees during their breaks. That seems far fetched, does anyone have any credible sources for what's going on?

Best I could find was this article on MSN, which simply states they're closing the union facility entirely & relocating it to another state: https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/economy/union-accuses-ebay-of-closing-tcgplayer-office-in-syracuse-to-keep-the-company-union-free/ar-AA1FlJ06

Here's a more sensationalized article: https://www.valueaddedresource.net/ebay-tcgplayer-union-layoff/

Does inkshield create the Inkling tokens as one event or many? The wording is "For each 1 damage prevented this way" which makes me think it would be multiple token creation events, each creating 1 inkling, and thus with an effect such as Took out, would also create that number of food. Since each single creation can be replaced with inkling+food.

The alternative wording would be something like "Whenever damage is prevented this way, create that many" which would make it one creation event in my mind, but I want to see if anyone else has input or thoughts.
