Not sure if this is the right sub, but I’m looking for a cheap but semi decent way to wirelessly run a 1080p HDMI signal.

Long story short, I have a HDMI 2.1 Switch that has 3 inputs. I cannot find any over 4 that not crazy expensive and my AVR only supports HDMI 2.0b. So I run it directly into my TV and use eArc to bring Audio back to the AVR.

I run Series X and PS5 into the 2.1 Switch but I also have a 1080p switch that controls other consoles, I need a total of 6 HDMI ports, If I run a 1080p switch into the HDMI 2.1 will it cause any input lag?

The consoles sit on the side of the room, so a 25' HDMI cable is used to run to the TV (I did find a cable that does HDMI 2.1 fine). I no longer want to run 2 long HDMI cables to the TV.

I just need more HDMI devices and do not want to suffer gaming...

Thoughts?

The setup:

Sony A95L TV - has two 4k/120 VRR ports, one of those ports is also eARC/ARC

Sonos Arc - Currently using the eARC port above

PS5 Console - needs a 4k/120 port

Gaming PC (RTX 4090) - needs a 4k120 port

I have been trying to find a solution to get the PS5 and PC to utilize my one remaining 4k/120 port, and an HDMI switcher was my first thought, simple enough.

So far I have tried multiple cheap Amazon switches with no or mixed success (PS5 would work but PC would not).

I then went for a Marantz VS3003 thinking the expensive option would work... and it kind of does. It works on the PC which has been the more problematic connection of the two but only works on the PS5 if VRR is disabled.

I'm at the point where I don't think this is going to work and I'm ready to just use the optical out on the TV to liberate the needed port losing the eARC connection for the Sonos in the process.

I am fortunate to have luxury problems but I'm also frustrated that I can't enjoy it all together. Anybody have any other ideas/products/solutions to get the most out of the products I have? Am I losing anything else other then Atmos going optical on the Sonos?

I know there are some AVRs out there that could probably do this but I think its a waste of money to go that route for what should be accomplished with a simple switch.

Will I notice a significant difference if I went with an ultra center and prime bookshelf speakers? This is my first home theater setup and trying to be a little budget conscious. I can always upgrade the front L/R bookshelf speakers to ultra down the road and move the prime to the rear when I finally expand to a 5.1. However, I just want to get an idea if it will be a noticeable difference if I used prime front speakers with an ultra center versus having an all ultra front speaker setup. Thank you.

Is the Denon AVR-X1700H for $460 a steal or our there better options for that price?

Howdy,

I own a PS5 and the UHD playback is obnoxiously loud, so I'm in the market for a cheap UHD/BD player. I don't need all the bells and whistles, just something that reliably plays what's on the market.

The 820 seems to be the de facto winner, but I don't really need a $500 player. Would the 420 suffice? Reviews seem to be hit or miss on it. Are there alternatives I should consider?

Tried all kind of settings i can think of, but it seems the closer the cable between my receiver and the subwoofer is to my desk the more "static hum" the subwoofer emits.

Is there anyway to solve this? :/

Some manufacturers are claiming that their speakers are only getting their "true" sound after they have been used for a certain time at a certain volume. Are these claims true or are they trying that you keep them longer than the standard two week return policy because the crack in time is longer than that for normal use.

Has someone made measurements before and after the first xxx hours for the same speakers?

Example:

"Run your speakers in by playing normal music at low-mid listening levels for approximately 50-70 hours play time. You may find the sound will continue to improve even after the 70 hour mark. This can be done naturally over time: like a fine wine the performance will improve with age."

This discussion is not about these specific speakers or MA

Okay, apologies if this is confusing, but I currently have an IKEA Besta TV stand and have my LG OLED currently directly on top. I’m not able to wall mount the TV at the moment, so I’m trying to see if there’s any TV mounts that can sit on the stand or on the floor to give some space underneath to fit my center channel again. Any thoughts?

Original Title: Replaced the main Yamaha HTR5730 receiver with this Yamaha RX-V385 receiver for arc. I feel like the sub isn’t hitting as good as with the old one. Maybe it just me. I rarely use the sub. What kind of cheap decent upgrades can I do now for speakers?

I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the problem;

Dynamic EQ off, and you have no bass at lower volumes. Manually turning up the base then means you have too much when listening louder.

Dynamic EQ on fixes this, but amplifies the rear surrounds on low volume far too much. Again, turning them down means that when you do crank the volume up they're then not as loud as they should be.

Is there a way around this that I'm missing?

For reference, I have an x2400H, purchased to replace a Pioneer VSX-930 with a failing centre channel. The old AVR had its annoyances, but it always at least sounded good

I've been fighting it for a couple of months now and am beginning to think I should just sell it on and buy something else!

I'm running a KEF T series 5.1.2 setup. I acknowledge that they're not the best speakers ever made, but they do sound good to me if I have everything set up right. It's just that altering the volume then screws everything up again!

Does anyone know if the S660H is compatible with the now very popular "Audyssey MultEQ Editor app" to disable midrange compensation?

The descriptions of the app in iOS and Play Store do NOT mention the S660H.

But on this official info sheet from Denon the Editor App is mentioned to work with the S660H:

(search for "Editor")

So now I'm confused, and I don't want to waste $20, did anyone already try it and can confirm if it's working or not?

I want to turn my 5.2 into a 5.2.2 in my living room. I live in a home built in 1913, so all the walls and ceilings are plaster and lathes, so in-wall/in-ceiling is not an option. I used to have a set of Polk outdoor speakers on the ceiling, but they had too large a profile for my wife. Does anyone here have any experience with or suggestions for something small and thin for $200 or less per pair?

Also, upfiring Atmos speakers likely won’t work. Placement options are limited due to wall decoration already in place. Plus, our plaster ceiling is textured, so I don't know how well reflections will do.

Thank you folks for any help!

Hello, I recently bought a onkyo TX-nr686 reciever and ran the onkyo calibration with the microphone. My speakers are sounding a bit quiet in the rear area but my fronts and centres are the loudest and don’t sound that clear compared to the denon x1500h that I recently had.

Speaker setup 7.2ch: Fronts: Polk s60s Center: KEF Q650C SurroundPolk s10s Surround back: Polk s15s Subwoofer: 2 polk HTS 12

Crossover settings: Front: 200hz Center: 120 hz Surround: 60hz Surround Back: 90 hz LPF of LFE: 120 hz Double Bass: N/A

Are these settings correct or should anything be changed here?

Thank you!

Hey all, I'm after some relatively "broadly speaking" advice.

My current setup, (which is still in boxes) consists of:

  • Sony VPL-XW5000ES/B projector
  • Sapphire Slim Bezel Fixed Frame Screen Viewing Area 2346 x 1319mm

Which means my attention is now on my audio setup.

My question:

Sonos "Ultimate Immersive Set" claims to provide 7.1.4 audio with just the Arc, Sub and 2 x Era300.

Does this genuinely compete or outperform something like the package at the link below which is a full seven speaker package with two ceiling speakers.

As an additional pieces of information, my theatre room has a vaulted ceiling, in case this changes advice, I read the Era300's use a "directional horn designed to reflect sound off the ceiling when playing Dolby Atmos*"* so I had concerns this may not be optimal if the ceiling isn't level.

Thanks in advance.

Turning a room in our semi finished basement into a dedicated theatre room. Ceilings are about 8ft tall. Any recommendations on the best way to deal with this acoustically? The room dimensions haven’t been settled yet (will be building a space out of the available basement space).

I can lose atmos if it’s a nonstarter with low ceilings, but I’m wondering if there are any other ideas we can implement in terms of room treatment to help acoustics?

Thanks!

Hi Folks

I currently run an Arendal 1723 centre speaker behind my AT screen. There's about 1 metre space behind the screen, so it's freestanding in there.

I plan on some remodelling of the cinema room that will require me to push the screen back that 1m against the rear wall.

It's a plasterboard construction, with an attic space behind.

To do this, I'll need to cut a 1723 sized hole in that wall and place the speaker in there.

My question is, should I build a little box to contain the speaker, or leave it free standing on a shelf, open to the attach space

My main concern on leaving it open would be sound leakage to the attic space and rooms below.

My concern with closing it up would be any impact on sound

I run that speaker with foam plugs inserted, so rear ports not in use. I will be able to mount the speaker with baffle either flush with or slightly forward of the rear wall vertical plane.

Any thoughts appreciated

Buying the Audyssey app and turning off the Midrange Compensator, changing filter to max out at 250Hz, setting all speakers to small, setting all crossovers to 80Hz, turning off Dynamic EQ and Volume EQ, MultEQ to FLAT, and turning off Cinema EQ and Loud MGMT.

Two years in, and I haven't heard better sound separation and clarity. I decided to pull the trigger on the Audyssey app and can't recommend highly enough these specific adjustments on your Denon or Marantz.
