I have a KEF R system (R3 x 2 + R2c + R8a x 2) doing 2 channel music and home theater duty together.

Now I moved into a new home and I can use a small bedroom as a dedicated theatre room (3x3.3m) and leave my 2 channel stuff in the living room for music only.

I can use the whole KEF setup for HT with 2x ML Dynamo 800X subs, and seeking a pair speaker from second hand market that is equal or better than R3 for music;

Or, I sell the KEF R2c and R8a (not very popular at the second-hand market), leave R3 for music, and build the theatre from scratch, as I heard someone saying 'coaxial speakers are not dynamic enough for home theatre' ?

The budget is about $3k AUD (about $2.5k USD)

So I've been watching blu-rays recently, and I've noticed that with some blu-rays, the audio and video seem to desync slightly. It's nothing major, but enough to notice and be a bit distracting. (it also seems to be desyncing by different amounts, on a movie-to-movie basis)

I have two different Amazon fire TVs, one playing blu-rays through a PS4, the other through an Xbox One. Is there anything I can try? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

(Let me know if there is a more suitable subreddit for this too. Wasn't sure where to post this)

We've seen it 1000 times. Couch is about a foot or so from the rear wall in a multi-use room. A 5.1.4 system would work fine. My only only concern is that the rear surround (channels 6 & 7) are unaccounted for. If there's no speaker plugged in, then those sounds are lost. My understanding is that Dolby doesn't just cram those sounds into the left & right surrounds (channels 4 & 5). Those signals are just....gone.

What if I put a surround speaker beside each left & right surround speaker and fired it at the back wall behind the couch? ....like a "lateral atmos" effect? Crazy?

Ceiling Atmos not shown.

ok so this may be a stupid question but i just purchased a Yamaha RX-A2A as I got a really good deal on it. I plan on using the 7.2 functionality as well as connecting a turntable to it. Am I able to use my front L and R speakers in the second zone to have just 2 channel audio while using the turntable? I just want to make sure that if I were to connect both the zone 2 and main L and R connections at the same time that they would not damage each other from the power or something? I do know from the manual that when using either zone it can be setup so that the inactive zone outputs no signal.

Picked up the Def Tech Demand 17’s plus a center from them.

The left and right towers (demand 17) say they can handle up to 300 watts.

I’m trying to build a 9.4.2 (2 subs, 4 atmos) with a Denon 3800.

What do I buy to pump more juice in my front LR and leave the 105watts the Denon provides for the surrounds and overheads?

Each of the towers have 4 poles to hook up wires for bi amping, which I have no clue what that means.

My dad just finished setting up our theater just a few weeks ago and it works great, but whenever we are using our Roku the projector will stop working for a few seconds and show the message “HDMI 1: Not Supported”. At first we thought it was a problem with the automatic resolution adjustment, but it didn’t fix when we set it to the supported res. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I currently have the Sony X90CH 65”, an upgrade to the similar but newer 85” Sony X90L is $2000. I don’t have many issues with my current tv so this seems like the safest bet, but then I see the 77” B3 is the same price, and the Samsung S89c is on sale for $2200. Is OLED going to blow the sony out of the water, or is the smaller size going to be a major negative if we sit 12’ away?

Which of these TV’s would you pick?

Does anyone have experience watching anime on OLED, and is stutter a major issue?

My Dune Homatics 4k player turned out to be a lemon. There are frequent audio sync issues, it stopped playing streaming videos, and there are atmos audio dropouts throughout local playback. Fortunately I discovered all this in the return window so now it's on to something else.

I'm looking at the Nvidia Shield Pro and the Zidoo Z9X Pro right now, but my mind is open.

My wish list:

1)Streaming video that plays uncompressed DTS and Atmos. I understand this might not actually be possible, and that DD+ is as good as it gets for streaming. If that's the case I'll live since my Roku Ultra is giving me that anyway. DD+ obviously isn't uncompressed Atmos, but it's still decent all things considered.

2)Playing video from a large external hard drive via usb. My definition of "large" here is 6-14TB.

3)Support for mkv video, and aac, ac3, eac3, dts, and dts hd and atmos hd passthrough.

4)Decent speed for all the above. I only mention this because I know the Shield is pretty old, and I don't know how well it's processor handles things anymore. I don't like to wait a long time for loading and whatnot. But if my needs are simple enough for its processor then I'd like to know that so I don't pay the extra $100 on the zidoo unnecessarily.

I don't need or want:

1)Plex, or anything like that. Don't need it, don't want it. I know I said at the top of this post that "my mind is open," but this is the exception to that.

2)AV1 support.

Also pls don't suggest nvidia shield as that is not officially available in India and is being sold at unreasonably high prices.

For reference, I thought the LG Thin Q AI and Hisense A65k had great picture quality in person, and the OLED next to them just looked “meh” to me. I think I liked the saturation in the QLEDs more. I haven’t had a tv in about 2 years so I don’t know what’s out there. Y’all are well versed in picture quality so I’d love to hear what models are the best looking at my price range ($800 and under, ideally more like $600). I am looking for a 55-65”, though I’d really like a 65. I can sacrifice some quality for that size.

Details:

  • I don’t game
  • I use a firestick / app interface isn’t important
  • I have a speaker that I will use for sound
  • I watch in a dark room so performance in a bright room doesn’t matter much
  • I watch scary movies and shows, so my most sought after feature is good looking night scenes.
  • There are a lot of fast past scenes that I would like to play smoothly.
  • I also like aesthetically pleasing nature documentaries, albeit very rarely.

Do you guys have any recommendations for me? Thanks so much!

I can get the following kit cheaply second hand. To connect a Marantz sr5007 receiver to a Samsung The Frame TV 10 meters away. Both support ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Does anyone know if the following HDMI over Ethernet extender will support ARC? I cannot find anything on ARC in the specifications. But maybe this is a spec that is not so much depending on the cable/connection but more on the receier/TV?

Thanks in advance!

I currently have an incomplete home theatre setup and I am looking for advice in an attempt to complete it.

Current setup

Av receiver: Denon AVR-S760H

Center channel speaker: Definitive Technology D5c

Left&Right front speakers: Definitive Technology D15 tower speakers

Looking for advice on adding two decent rear speakers that would be compatible with the current setup in quality and price point. I am thinking of wall-mounting them to the back wall. Ceiling mounting is most likely out of the question since running in-ceiling wiring is not feasible atm.

Budget: Hoping to stay under $700-800 for the pair

Please let me know if any other information might be helpful.

So I’m upgrading my receiver from an LX303 and I’ve come down to the LX305 and LX505. I am running the following:

Two Definitive Mythos Five (Towers) Definitive ProCenter 1000 (Center) Two Definitive ProMonitor 600 (Rear Surround) Definitive Supercube III (Sub) Four Acoustic Audio AA321W (Atmos Height)

I know my heights frequency response (150hz-20Khz) is significantly higher than my def techs and I realize that these new pioneers have global crossover. My question is two fold, which receiver would drive my def techs properly (give them justice) as well as should I opt to change my Atmos heights to something like Polk OWM3s?

Hey all,

I have an acoustically transparent screen that comes with an extra black backing. Instead of using the black backing to improve the contrast and further attenuate the sound from the speakers, I'm thinking of using black sound-absorption panels around the speakers.

I'm hoping this will give me the effect of both

  • Reducing sound reflections from the speakers
  • Acting as a black backing by absorbing all the light from the PJ

I don't want the additional attenuation by going forward with the black backing. In this case, I'd have the foam placed around the speaker grille and all behind the screen.

Is this a good idea, or am I over thinking this?

We are building a new home, and this is what I have been allocated. I will be able to run my cable. Right now, we want a very discrete solution with inwall speakers and remote AV equipment under the stairs. 5.1.2 is the idea. I was looking at the two following sets of equipment. I am 100% open to suggestions but I am thinking of using angled ceiling speakers due to the height of the ceilings.

Layout and room pictures:

Center: Klipsch R-5502-W II

L/R: Klipsch R-5650-W II

Rear: L/R: Klipsch CDT-5800-C II

Front Top: Klipsch CDT-5800-C II

Sub under center: Klipsch RW-5802 II + RSA-500

Rear: L/R: JBL Stage 260CSA
