Hi everyone

After getting feedback on passive soundbars here (bad), I am trying a different config. Please see attached image. The long rectangle on top is the heat vent (internal) for the fireplace.

I want to put the center above the TV and point it down towards the listening area / couch.

And I am putting the Left & Right at the bottom, because the wife wants to hang paintings / decor on the wall above.

Would love to get some feedback on this config.

The alternative is to put the Left & Right as in-ceiling speakers and point them at the listening area. Its a Vaulted ceiling, so its already angled towards the listening area.

After years of trying to convince my parents to upgrade their 15yr old hitachi lcd mounted on the ceiling using a $100 soundbar, over xmas it finally happened! Got them upgraded to a 65" LG C3 on a MantelMount and connected to a 2.1 setup; 2 KEF Q150s, a SVS SB-1000 hooked to a Denon s670h. Everyones happy! BoomerDoomerNews never looked better. (pics from first test after install)

Now they are already talking about wanting the full 5.1 experience which is where I could use your help because they don't really have a spot for a center channel (KEF q250c would have been my first choice) due to the fireplace mantel and TV being pulled down during normal viewing. That leaves the MantelMount's "soundbar attachment" which could raise and lower with the TV but that is were I dont know what good options are out there....

A slim soundbar obviously would fit but is there really a 'good one' to compliment their setup vs being a step back? Are there any better/smaller center speaker options you fine folks would recommend we look at? Bonus points for 2 small('er than the q150s) rear speaker options but center-channel is the priority.

Hello,

I want to start out by stating that I would consider myself a beginner when it comes to home theater setups, so please keep that in mind.

I want to add two more speakers to my setup, so I'm hoping I can get some advice as far as the best overall option.

My current setup is a 3.1.

Receiver: Denon AVR X3800H

Front left/right: KEF Q350

Center: KEF Q650C

Subwoofer: SVS PB-1000 Pro

Room Size: Small 18' x 22' (pretty rectangular, no odd walls or obstructions).

Main Usage: shows, movies, and gaming.

Budget: Willing to buy any of the options listed below.

Options (all open-box at Best Buy):

Q550B - $515 ($1030 for pair)

Q350B - $605 for pair.

Q950B - $809 ($1618 for pair)

Q750B - No open box availability, so it's not an option.

So, based on what I already have, what would be the best option to go with?

I'm leaning more towards the Q350s or Q550s because of the price difference, but I would totally go with the Q950s if the sound difference is significant. Furthermore, for the price of the two Q950s, I could get both the Q350s and the Q550s and have a 7.1 setup. Would this be better? Are tower speakers even worth it over bookshelf speakers in my situation? Because I could also get two pairs of Q350s for the 7.1 setup.

I'm not even sure if it would require additional hardware if I wanted to go with either of the tower speakers. Would the X3800H handle two tower speakers in addition to the other speakers without additional hardware?

Sorry if I'm all over the place with my questions.

Notes: I want to stay with the KEF Q series, so I'm not really interested in other speakers. I'm sure there are better speakers out there, but I'm satisfied with this brand/series.

I will be buying them from Best Buy since I have the total tech plan and their return/replacement process is, in my opinion, one of the best out there, so I'm not looking for potentially better deals from other stores.

Eventually, I plan on adding another 2 speakers and maybe even some ceiling speakers, but I don't know if that would be overkill given the size of the room. But please feel free to let me know if it would still be worth it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

i have a sony Oled tv and a ps5 set up with it. i have a sound bar and a subwoofer and also rear speakers. The soundbar and woofer work great, but the rear speakers are incredibly quiet at all times.

The only time I can hear something come out of them is if i play a video that has 360 audio and if the audio is supposed to come out of the back left speaker, it does. But as a gamer, none of the games I play have this feature so they may as well be off. If i put my ear right next to them i can barely make out noise while gaming.

At the store when i was testing the system out, the rear speakers absolutely gave out loud noise just when playing music, so what gives?

Good afternoon all,

Currently debating between these 2 sealed subs for a multiroom 5.1.4 set up. Currently utilizing a SB-3000.

Does anyone have experience with these subs that can tell me any nuanced differences. My understanding is they both are tremendous subs but the RS1 is “thicker” and possibly better quality. I could swing 2 F18’s for the price of one JTR however which is a consideration.

I’m after great mid bass chest slam, and maybe a bit more tactile feel. I’d love for it to open up my Q950s for less muddy rock/metal music as well. I don’t have many complaints on movie soundtracks.

Thanks!

I have 2 sb2000s at the minute and have the opportunity to purchase 2 um18s in Marty boxes. Subs come with NX6000

How much of an upgrade would this be?
