My Sony A95K is mounted above the fireplace. While there are HDMI, power and cat ports on the wall behind the TV…they all terminate on the wall to the left. That’s where the AVR and other components are located. The HMDI and cat cables were run behind the walls during construction. Now I’d like to upgrade the HDMI cables so I can get the best quality…would like to get Dolby Vision, but they seem to have been stapled/secured so I cannot simply pull and replace them. So, instead of putting holes in the walls, it was suggested that I get an HDBaseT HDMI extender.

Anyone here have experience with one they would recommend? Any other suggestions on other potential solutions?

Question: which is a better setup? Or what are the pros and cons of each scenario?

All of your HDMI sources are plugged into the receiver then one HDMI to TV for video?

Or all HDMI sources plugged into TV then eARC to receiver?

Can someone clarify that if I have a Denon AVR-X4800H, I can use a set of front height channels for 7.1.2 setup without a external amp?

I'm seeing conflicting information saying that it may or may not shut off the back surround speakers if the front heights are in use, or vice/versa.

I'm also not understanding if the back surrounds are turned off when just using the Auro 3D upmixing or for Atmos as well. TIA

Have a Yamaha rx-v385 that has Bluetooth standby, I have a wiim hooked up via Bluetooth, when connecting via Bluetooth it turns on the receiver which is what I want, but whenever the receiver is off/in Bluetooth standby mode, the wiim doesn’t automatically connect to Bluetooth, it goes straight to optical even tho there is no optical plugged in, anyone have any ideas?

Hey all,

Long time lurker here. I've owned a "basic" HT setup (Denon receiver, with 5.0 setup of Micca speakers). I enjoyed that setup for a while but eventually had to sell it when I was moving. Also I couldn't install a subwoofer because I was living in a condo and didn't want to disturb my neighbors.

Since then I've bought a house and a Yamaha YAS-109 soundbar "for time being". Eventually I wanted to add a subwoofer to the mix, but with a little baby in the house that was out of the question, unfortunately.

Pretty soon I will be moving into a new house, where I'm planning to have a "HT room" in the basement to fully enjoy it without disturbing anyone.

I started looking at my options within ~$1000 CAD budget and it's really hard to convince myself to go with a HT system vs a soundbar.

I always see people saying that in this budget HT will sound much better than any soundbar, but I'm struggling to find the right components myself. I've seen this post and was hoping that OP will share his setup within the same budget, but his gear costs around $1500 USD and things are much more expensive here in Canada, especially for subs. Just that receiver alone costs $700-800 CAD.

So my question is the following: can I build a system for ~$1000 CAD (no used parts) or should I just go with Samsung Q990c (that I can purchase for around $800-900 CAD (bestbuy geeksquad openbox) or $1000-1100 brand new).

  • I understand the pros/cons of HT and soundbars
  • I know that I'm asking HTvsSoundbar question on HT subreddit :)
  • I don't want to build the system over time (it's not that I don't have the funds at the moment to buy a more expensive setup, I just don't want to spend more than $1000 on audio)

Hi

I want to buy a speaker set to be connected to my PC, I was looking at Logitech PC speakers, for example, the Z623 or G560. I was also thinking of using a soundbar with a subwoofer instead of the normal PC speakers

What do you recommend my budget is around 200 to 250euro. Also is it worthwhile to go with Bluetooth speakers, I know wired are better.

Note that these speakers will used for playing music and may be in the future for simple audio tuning

Thanks

Title is pretty much my current situation. I have a $3,000 Best Buy gift card that has been burning a hole in my pocket.

I have a 5.2.4 setup currently, with:

TV – LG 77OLEDCX

Speakers:

Left / Center / Right – Paradigm Reference Studio 40 V2

Surrounds – KEF Q10

Font Height/Back Height – Polk OWM3

Subwoofers (2x) – SVS SB-2000 Pro

Accessories:

AVR – Denon AVR-X3800H

Bass Shakers (2x) - Dayton Audio BST-300EX

Bass Shaker Amp – Dayton Audio SA230

miniDSP 2x4HD

Plex Server - Intel Core i5-12400 / 32GB RAM / 32TB HD

Nvidia Shield Pro

Apple TV 4K

Xbox Series X

Can’t move up to a 7.2.4 setup with current room configuration. Given this setup, what would you be looking to upgrade first, or add to? Thanks

Hi! So as the title says, I just bought a d/a converter and wanted to plug in my amp+speakers to the TV. The TV is a LG and the sound output which works is tv speakers + optical unit. However in this mode I can't change the volume of the speakers with the remote, only the TV's own. When I switch the output to Tv speakers only the speakers stop making sounds.

What I want to do is to only output to the wired speakers. When I change the setting the speakers only start buzzing/scratching extremely loud. The TV itself says that there is no sound and I can't raise or lower the volume at all.

How can I solve this issue? I would really like to be able to use the intended mode of optical cable output. I've already tried unplugging and replugging all the devices, the sound works fine, it's just outputting through only the wrong mode.

I'm getting what I believe to be is a great deal on some equipment. One of the pieces is a Origin Acoustics SUBV10P. Do any of you have experience with this brand or this model?

I'm getting a Denon AVR-s750H, this subwoofer, a Sony blueray player and a MX780 universal remote all for $250.

I picked up a used set of Polk tsi300 for $100. One was missing the bridge/jumper. I plan to use speaker wire. Do I use the entire wire or split the wire into black and red pieces? Thanks everyone!

Hello

I am trying to build out my HT system. Due to WAF, I am going with a soundbar + 2x in-ceiling speakers + a sub-woofer.

My plan was to go with

KEF HTF7003 passive soundbar (3 channel)

Total cost = $~$1100

But the AV guy doing the installation for me said that I should go with Sonos ARC + their amp, because it provides ATMOS. Total cost = ~$1600

Really looking for advice on both quality of sound + value for money.

Thank you

Hey all, I just bought a minidsp 8 channel processor to replace my 30 year old Bryston. It works fantastic for what I need (powerful DSP and custom crossovers) but is unable to decode DTS or Dolby Digital due to licensing. My Apple TV outputs LPCM 7.1 so I can stream movies in surround sound, but my bluray player can only transcode to PCM 2.0. Are there any good players out there that can transcode DTS/DD source into 7.1LPCM? Or even a standalone box that can do this? I know PS5s are capable but I'd rather not buy a $500 gaming console just to watch blurays.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a surround sound system. My room is 12' x 14' and my budget is 3000-4000 CAD. Ideally, I'd like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but is it worth it for a room this size? Is it going to be noticeable? If so, better go for the 5.1.2 or 5.1.4? If not, should I only get a 5.1? Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Currently using a Mivoc Hype G2. Want to Upgrade to a SVS Sub 3000 - which is much larger. If I want to tune the volume down - will the sub still work fine, or should I instead get a smaller sub.

On my way to picking up food today, I had a guy stop me and ask if I wanted to buy any home theater equipment at an insanely reduced price.

I’m somewhat used to scams where people try and sell knock off products, and I am a seasoned online seller and buyer but this one seemed a little bit different.

He clearly worked for an AV company whose client didn’t need all the equipment they ordered so he was trying to offload the equipment before he met up with his boss, likely to pocket some money and tell the boss all went well. All products were boxed perfectly and legit looking.

He wanted $1000 for the Cinemax Ultra P2 8K projector. Did I miss the chance of a lifetime?

So, I've been using my Denon AVR home theater receiver for a little over two years as an amp for listening to records on my turntable. (Always in Phono mode, and the sound stage set to (2ch) Stereo) It's been flawless and sounded really good to my ear. But recently when doing that, out of the blue, it doesn't sound good any longer. It now sounds muffled and lacks any highs in both (2ch Stereo and Direct modes). Now if I change the sound stage to "matrix" or "5ch Stereo" the sound fills back in and sounds SO much better. I've also noticed it a couple of times when listening to audio from my Xbox watching while watching Netflix, I have to change from DTS to a more generic sound mode like "Matrix" to get clear highs and vocals.

Reciever: Denon AVR-2106

Speakers: Paradigm Studio Monitor 7 v2 (Front & Middle)

Turntable: Fluance RT82 (on the phono IN and grounded properly)

Granted my equipment is older. I've spent some time with various settings diving through menus to no avail. Could it just be my old AVR is on it's last legs and dying. I'm kind of at a loss here, where to dig, or if it is a waste of time and I should just start upgrading. But I'd really rather not spend the money being that it's right after Christmas and all.

I have a marantz receiver with a WiiM pro hooked up via optical, but when I play music through the WiiM I have to manually turn the receiver on and to the right input. The receiver turns on automatically when I turn on the tv, is there a way to have it do the same for the optical port?

I played around in settings through the app but there wasn’t an obvious way about this.

Well.

We bought Denon AVR X1700H and two triangle borea BR03 L/R speakers and plugged them in via banana plugs like completely wrong. Like this [imgur link] 🫠

Though the audio worked and has been working for the past 4-5 months.

So, recently we bought a new central speaker to add to the collection (borea BRC1) and we JUST realised we have been plugging the damned banana plugs in idiotically. Could it be we damaged the Denon ports this way or the plugs themselves? We also tried plugging the central speaker this wrong way too before we realised the mistake.

  • ~~The central speaker is not working properly, Audyssey and test sounds both work, but the speaker does not play audio during films, so I just wonder if we damaged the ports.~~
  • ~~Denon~~ ~~shuts down during loud music scenes~~ ~~anyway, everyone says it's a power issue but we just have ONE socket in our living room into which one cord extender is plugged in, and in the cord extender only denon and the TV are plugged in, nothing else. IDK how to fix this.~~

EDIT UPDATE EDIT UPDATE EDIT

OK! the sound works now even with loud sounds! what fixed it was the GREEN bottom button on the Denon remote control called MOVIE.
