Hi everyone

I’m looking for a recommendation for a 4K Blu-Ray player that has app control (so I can use an iPhone or iPad to control it). For background my components for the theater are in a closet adjacent to the theater room. I don’t have a line of sight for the components so IR remote control isn’t going to work. It will be on the same network as my iPad/iPhone. Samsung used to have a few app controlled Blu-Ray players but it looks as though they are no longer being made… and those with new old stock are fetching a premium now.

I’m mostly going to be streaming but I have quite an extensive collection of physical media.. and I will still purchase that way for as long as it is made.

Anyone have any advice on this? Checked Best Buy , crutchfield and Google all with no results for what I’m looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Presuming you have to buy stands for your bookshelf speakers, why would everyone not just buy floorstanding?

I just bought an LG C3 for the family living room. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for Disney movies or animation that would look great on the TV I could impress my family with tonight when we sit down to watch a film? Thinking of those with great HDR content. I watched Moana recently on a friend's TV and it was amazing! I see Mad Max Fury Road and 1917 etc. be mentioned a lot, but I feel that would be a bit too much for my youngest to handle!

I have an older setup of Onkyo speakers which were part of a dedicated 7.1 setup. I purchased this setup way back in 2007. The Onkyo receiver crapped out, which was replaced by a Yamaha receiver. Not the best receiver but it is what it is.

I am now looking to replace the existing Onkyo speakers with in-wall speakers. I was looking at the monoprice series, but wanted to further understand the order of quality of the monoprices lines. Currently they offer four different sets, I have listed below in order of price point:

  1. Alpha
  2. Amber
  3. Caliber
  4. Aria
  • Which speakers are considered to be their premium offering?
  • Can I combine different sets of speakers, for example I would pair the premium Center Channel, and two Fronts with the lesser pairs to get the most bang for the buck.

Appreciate any insight on the Monoprice speakers in general as well as which set you would go with.

I'm setting up my small home theater in my new house, and I need to choose lamps. I have room for 4 lamps, one in each corner of the room. 2 of them will be behind the TV and the other 2 behind the seating area. I'm using a 65 inch oled tv, so I'm a bit afraid of too much glare from the screen.

Any recommendations? What to avoid, etc? I've ordered a set of Philips hue bulbs, and I think those have dimming as well as color changes. I can return them if they're a bad fit for my setup though.

I'm currently looking around to building some sort of speaker setup for my bedroom/gaming/movie room, I honestly haven't a clue about this stuff.

I was here before and noticed that there was a pinned post for starter setups and the like but I can't seem to find it anymore.

These are using some interesting technologies, including the opposing woofers and diamond coated carbon tweeters (similar to B&W’s proprietary approach).

I’d argue that the driver materials, design and overall finish push these into a more premium segment. Curious to see pricing.

I do wonder if the opposing woofers will create unwanted reflections from the back wall since they’ll play up to much higher frequencies than a subwoofer with dual opposing woofers would.

Overall very interesting products that SVS is releasing here. Would certainly love to listen to these!

I am looking to purchase and install KEF Ci3160RLM-THX for my front LCR soundstage. The wall where the L will sit is a standard 2x4 framing construction. The wall for center and right are using 2x10+ framing, so fitting the speakers there won't be an issue (might be with too much cavity space available, but that is a separate concern).

The KEF Ci3160RLM-THX are 3.9" deep, giving me just 0.1" buffer behind the speaker when installed. I realize "most" of the in-wall speakers are designed to fit a standard 2x4 construction, but is this speaker one of the exceptions or is it intended to work with that tight margin?

Hi,

I just finished Marantz Cinema 50 setup with my 3.1 system (plan to get more speakers later).

I have large fronts, and a small center.

I walked through the setup, and everything is fine.

I played speaker test video (individual channel) from YouTube, when it's the center channel's turn, the sound came from both fronts, and nothing from the center.

I could hear the sound from the center back when I used my older receiver (Sherwood RD7500) with the same video (and same set of speakers).

When I went to manual speaker setup from the menu, I can see all speakers and it allows me to adjust the volume (in dB) individually. When I increased the volume of my center I can hear a louder sound from it.

What did I miss?
