I recently purchased a home theater system and am wondering if it is functionality the same to just use the HDMI ports on the TV instead of running everything through the receiver. The only reason I want to do this is that I like to have different picture settings for cable tv vs streaming stuff. I can customize a default for each HDMI port while if I run everything through the receiver it all is connected to HDMI port 3. I can obviously have different sub customizations for on each HDMI port but for the sake of simplicity I'd like to just have it set and never need to change it really. TV is a 77 inch a80j and the receiver is an onkyo tx-nr6050

Is there any benefit to having 2 different type of subwoofers ? If that makes sense.

Looking at pb4000/sb4000 combo. Vs only PB.

Bought this Yamaha rx-v385, it has Bluetooth and has to be turned on each time to be used, which my tv (hdmi ARC) turns it on when turned on. I cannot figure out how to get Spotify to play from my phone or preferably iPad.

I even bought a WIIM pro streaming device even though my phone can hook up via Bluetooth. In an attempt to have the win play Spotify at a certain time, and now I realized my receiver does not have a trigger input (although the wiim has a trigger output) and I cannot figure out how to get the receiver to turn on.

If anyone has suggestions on how I can figure this out, maybe there is a better way without wiim pro or if there’s a way I can get my receiver to turn on at a certain time without affecting my tv hdmi! Please 🙏

Is the a good receiver for under $500 and now on sale at $379? $170 more for S670H. For my 65 LGC3 and an older set of 5.1 Onykos. Casual user but like to turn up the music on YouTube.

Hello friends,

I'm requesting your help on my new audio quest. Me and my girlfriend recently got our place for our own (our roommate left but we still rent - important for later)

So I've read the lessons from this sub, great stuff, especially for me that didn't know anything about sound. I enjoy music, I play a couple of instruments and I always plug in my marshall small speaker whenever I watch a movie on my laptop/tv, etc but now I got a new TV and a new sofa and I want to have a decent sound setup.

That being said my living room is small and my new TV is gonna pretty much cover the whole stand space (I also cannot change that furniture as it's the landlords).

My new sofa is also gonna pretty much cover the whole furniture length so I don't have space for tower speakers.

This is obviously not the ideal scenario hence why I'm coming to you experts.

I have 3 scenarios that I thought of :

Scenario 1 - Standalone Soundbar

Pros:

  • Easy setup
  • Cheapest option

Cons:

  • Could have a better audio experience
  • Idk if I should buy one with just 2/3 channels or one with 5.1 or 7.1 but the fake one where they cheat to make it look like surround, at least this is what I understood from what I read

Scenario 2 - 2.0 Setup

Pros:

  • Better audio than standalone bar
  • Better Stereo experience

Cons:

  • Is it possible to have speakers in my living room? Is there anyway I can add 2 bookshelves near my sofa without drilling the wall? I don't mind losing a bit of paint but I really didn't want to drill it as it's the landlords house, does anyone have any recommendation?

Scenario 3 - 3.0 Setup

Pros:

  • Pretty good sound experience with Stereo + Middle

Cons:

  • More Expensive

Scenario 4 - 3.1 Setup

Pros:

  • Maximum audio experience

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Do I really need a subwoofer in such a small living room? Is this place ok to have it or is not worth it to have one if it's gonna be covered on all ends except the front? I would remove the stand door basically

Note:

  • Where should I place the Soundbar? The TV stand is not tall enough for most soundbars. Would it be ok to have the Soundbar on the glass on top? Would it be ok to have the Soundbar behind the TV? Is the best way to just get a wooden stand to put on top of the stand so I can raise the TV and put the Soundbar below?

Sorry for all this questions, but I've been running around in circles with my research.

PS: If you have recommendations also feel free to add cause that is a whole new topic.

Thank you all my friends and have a great rest of week!

Some of my center audio is very clearly being fed to the L/R speakers and it's really bugging me, however my AVR (Onkyo TH-R398) doesn't seem to have a center spread setting

Is there something I'm missing that you guys know of?

Thanks

Hello, so I'm looking for a fairly cheap 7.1 Atmos receivers to pair with my PS5 and LG C1. The receivers I'm looking at all have ARC but no eARC. So if I were to connect the PS5 straight to the receiver then to the TV, will I get lossless audio when playing games and watching blu rays? Thank you.

Hey r/hometheater,

I started a thread yesterday on r/4kbluray comparing the X700 vs. UB420 vs. UB820, as pretty much daily there I see threads of people asking "which is the better player? Does the X700 really have issues?" Since we know the main differences between the player features (Manual DV switching on the X700, no DV on the UB420, auto DV switching + HDR optimizer on UB820), it's mostly anecdotal stories I'm interested in capturing, particularly with which ones have frequent issues.

Figured I'd share the link to the poll here as well so people could share their experiences and vote in the poll. It already has over 160 votes and the differences are quite stark.

Let me know what you guys think, feel free to share your own experiences here, and vote in the poll over there if you have or had any of the players in question.

This will be my first home theater installation.

I'm torn between two KEF bundles: I have a great price for both, and they cost pretty much the same.

OPTION A

Q750 fronts; Q150 satellites; Q250C center; no sub

OPTION B

Q350 fronts; Q150 satellites; Q250C center; Kube8

Will be used mainly for movies. the home theater is in an apartment building, so they will work at low volume. Cleanliness and clarity of sound are more important than musicality to me in this setup.

What should I buy?

Looking to buy a used AVR, just wondering which one of these is better?

  • Denon X4400H - $1000 CAD
  • Denon X3700H - $1100 CAD

Please let me know which one you would choose and why.

Hi everyone.

I could use some advice. My wife and I recently remodeled our master bedroom, which is pretty big for a bedroom (16x16x8) because it was built over a 2 car garage when the builder created an addition.

We made a space for 2 recliner seating area with a small home theater that will never be more than 3.2 channel. I recycled some old stuff and bought some new. Usage will be about 50/50 movies and music.

My current equipment is a 55" Samsung QNED (fine for us), a Roku Ultra, 2 x SVS 3000 Micro subs, 2 x SVS Ultra bookshelves, and an SVS Prime center (all bought refurbished).

The problem is my old Yamaha RX-V777 receiver. I like the sound of it, but its age prevents us from watching anything with HDCP 2.2 content, even HD YouTube.

The big requirements are:

  1. Decent power for F/C/R (80 watts or better), and I understand the SVS speakers dip into the 4Ohm range regularly, so the ability to handle that is a big plus.

  2. 2 RCA subwoofer outs

  3. 4K/HDMI 2.1/HDCP 2.2/eArc support

  4. Full remote support, no separates that I need to get up and adjust. I like eARC I'm particular because of the unified power on/off and being able to run everything (power, volume, Roku) from one remote.

I'm pretty picky about music audio quality, and I've liked Carver (dating myself here), Yamaha, and Onkyo stuff in the past. Our main system is based around a Denon 3700 and I'm reasonably happy with it.

I'd like to spend less than $1000 USD, and if there's something that supports 3.2 more than 9.4 or whatever, I'd love to know about it. This space will never be used for more than 3.2 sound.

Thanks for any advice anyone can provide!

Recently started making upgrades to my home theatre setup. Man the PC-4000 is nuts, been running it in extended. Not sure why you'd want to run it in another mode. I was looking around the SVS site and they recommend a sealed woofer for the ELAC Uni-fi speakers so I'm trying out sealed with the ports plugged, the neighbor hasn't been away long enough for me to run ARC again and watch some movies I'm familiar with.

Any thoughts on improvements for my new setup or what port configuration I should be running? Should I bother running the S8 on sub 2?

Old setup

  • Emotiva MC-700
  • Kef R2C Center
  • Audioengine A5's for front and rear
  • Audioengine S8 Sub

New setup

  • Anthem MRX1140
  • ELAC Uni-fi Floor standing front
  • ELAC Uni-fi Bookshelf Rear
  • KEF R2C Center
  • SVS PC-4000 Sub 1
  • Audioengine S8 Sub 2

first of all, are edifier 1850's better than the built in X90L speaker?

Recently bought an 85inch sony x90CL and wanted to start messing around with audio. I have Edifier 1850s that are currently on my PC and tried connecting them to the TV only to realize that my TV doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack. i did some research and as far as i can tell, my two options are:

buy an optical to 3.5mm adapter (but i can't use the remote to control volume?)

buy a hdmi to 3.5mm adapter and use arc/earc

am i right so far? do you have any recommendations for which products to use? and how exactly does a receiver come into play / do i need one of those instead? thank you for your help
