I just upgraded my center (RC-62 II) and I've been messing around with the levels of it and the L/R

When I turn up the L/R level the dialogue seems to get louder, but when I turn up the center level it only gets clearer, not really louder, is this normal? I'd think it would also make it louder, not just clearer

I think it sounds nice, but I feel like it's not doing much and the audio is mostly coming from my L/R and the C is just making it clearer and more "crisp"

I think my settings are all right:

5.1 and everything is at a 80hz crossover

Right now I have a Yamaha A740 receiver with two vintage Infinity speakers. For center and rear I use one of these kits. I think it's pretty ok. The center is great. The surrounds I feel like are a little weak. I can't hear them very often even though I'm in a small room. The big problem is running the speaker wire to them. It's just unsightly.

I'd like to upgrade a lot of my set up with a new LGC3 OLED TV and at that time I will probably need to upgrade my receiver. The A740 is very nice but only one of the HDMI ports will pass through 4k! I think this would solve my problem for HDMI ports.

I notice it's also compatible with things like this and these.

I'm just wondering, is it a bad idea to go to a wireless rear and center set up if I'm playing 4k Blu-ray's? Also streaming 4k on an Apple TV, playing PS5 games. I'm assuming that I will not be able to take advantage of high bit rate audio output from the blu-rays...

Any insight or advice would be great!

I’m going to calibrate my home theater and now I’m trying to figure out how to measure where my subwoofer plays the best. Any nice app or gadget that I can get which helps me out on figuring my rooms best sounding spots? I have heard there are some apps like that but I guess my search terms are wrong since I cant find anything like that. Thank you!

I decided to get fibetv to consolidate the streaming subscriptions that I have as it was getting over the top and I don’t want to pay $300 for Sportsnet premium anymore.

I have the new smaller fibetv box and adjusted the picture to “best” in the settings, but the colors and picture quality is noticeably worse, especially on sports channels compared to the Sportsnet app. I’ve also tried it through my Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) and the Sportsnet picture quality is even better than through the fibetv box.

I’m running 1.5gb fibre op with a wired ethernet connection. So after this rant my questions are…

Am I full of BS and is there really a difference in the resolution and frame rate?

Why is the picture quality garbage on fibetv?

Equipment:

Bell fibe tv (wired) Fibre Op 1.5 gigabit internet Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) TCL 55C803 (not the greatest TV but will upgrade soon)

I’m finishing up my theater in a new build. My projector is ceiling mounted 14’ - 15’ from screen and my AV equipment is in a room behind the screen. Thinking 40 ft hdmi but could go with cat6 with extenders. I will be running either through Smurf tubing that is ran already. Which would you go with?

I dropped a fair amount of money on a new surround system a couple years ago. It was during Covid when most people were in their houses, so I didn't have an opportunity to do testing. After a bunch of research, I went with the ELAC UniFi UF5 front towers and UC5 center. A few years before I had some Definitive bookshelf speakers for front and surround, and they were incredible. They sounded like you were in a theater with stuff flying all around you. The ELACs sound kinda soft and just a bit boring. They don't seem like a theater experience whatsoever.

I just figured it was just a bad buy during Covid, but I've read recently that these speakers are absolutely power hungry and that could have an effect on the performance. My AVR is a Yamaha RX-A780 with an SVS-1000 sub, which also feels pretty subdued. My question is, would I get more out of this system if I upgraded the AVR or got an external amp, even though there is just a front R/L preout on the AVR? Or, is kinda dull what I should export from these ELAC?

ELAC Towers and center

sensitivity: 85 dB

impedance: 4 ohms

maximum power input: 140 watts

Yamaha RX-A780

7 channel

95 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.06% THD, with 2 channels driven

Also have the ELAC Atmos speaker hooked up with two surround definitive.

Hello, I'm hoping for some suggestions for high quality films to use as demo material. Google is of little help since it starts suggesting stuff like Point Break. I currently have a few good high budget ones put on by Redbull films. Also, if you haven't seen Art of Flight, it's pretty spectacular. Even though it's not HDR, it's great for exposing contrast flaws in a modern TV and the sound engineering is flawless.

I currently have:

The Art of Flight

The Fourth Phase

Where the Trail ends

After researching Atmos angles and everything else for 2 days now I think I have the positioning nailed down, but a have a bulkhead that is causing a real issue placing my 2 channel in ceiling centers.

From my research and a 100 inch ceiling height (40 inch from floor to ear), I need to be:

width: 5 feet (60 inches) to the left and right of the main seating position if using a 45 degrees, putting the left speaker in the bulkhead and dramatically changing the height.

forward: 10-24 inches forward from the main seating position if using 65 to 80 degrees forward of listening position for center channel (2 speaker setup).

Key measurements and notes:

  • room is 12 feet wide
  • 33 inches from the center of the sofa to the start of the bulkhead
  • bulkhead is 15 inches tall, 31 inches wide.
  • Speakers are HTD HDX-r65's with 15 degree adjustable aiming

Potential solution:

  • If measuring from ear to height of bulkhead, it is 45 inches. This would position the left atmos speaker almost centered in the bulkhead. Then on the right, I would position the speaker 60 inches offset due to the increased ear to ceiling height on that side. The difference in distance would be adjusted in speaker setup.
  • Nuclear solution: return the atmos speakers and install rear channels in the back wall.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Please excuse the mess, newly finished office and not organized yet.

I had gotten an LG UP870 some time ago from 220 Electronics, and while I mostly use it to watch Blu-rays, this past year I've been upgrading to 4K. The first couple 4K discs I watched on it played just fine since they were normal studio discs from major Hollywood companies, but I've noticed some issues with the player when it came to boutique 4K discs.

On most 4K discs I got from Criterion, Arrow, Kino Lorber, etc, the disc with freeze around two thirds into the movie, and the disc will freeze at the same time if I try fast forwarding past the two thirds mark. It would happen like clockwork across multiple boutique discs.

Not all 4K discs freeze like that from these companies. I did some research and found that lower end 4K players simply can't handle 3 layer discs. DVDs and Blu-rays are typically dual layer discs so lower end players are able to read them just fine. 4K discs of course have to be able to house many gigabits of extra information in order to store a high resolution feature film, and so 4K discs are manufactured with three layers. So it surprises me that a player that was intended to play 4K discs is having trouble switching to and reading the third layer of a disc that it was meant to play.

Just to be sure that the discs aren't the cause of the problem: If I took a 4K from an Arrow video set where the release only came with one disc, meaning that both the film AND the bonus features are all on one disc, the movie would have a lower bitrate but it will only be stored on the first two layers, and all the bonus features will be stored on the third layer. My 4K player can handle those discs just fine because I am accessing the bonus features manually instead of the player's software switching from Layer 2 to Layer 3 mid-film. If I watched a movie from Arrow Video where the set came with two discs, where the 4K disc contains the movie ONLY (except maybe a commentary track), and all the bonus features are housed on a completely separate disc (usually a Blu-ray) in the same set; that particular disc will freeze two-thirds into the film.

I am coming to reddit to ask if there is anything I can do to my player to correct the problem myself without having to buy a new one? I got my LG UP870 from 220 Electronics AND it was modded for region switching, and considering I had the player for almost 4 years now I'm not sure I can just ship the player back to LG for maintenance (unless you guys think they will take it and repair it, no questions asked).

If there is nothing I can do, are there any budget-friendly 4K players that you can guys can almost guarantee will have no problem playing my 4K discs? My budget is around $300 or less, though if push came to shove I don't mind paying a little extra if the recommendation is strong enough.

Thank you, hope to hear from somebody soon!

Are samsung signage displays good for video presentation? I'm looking primarily at the QM65C.

I really just want a static flatpanel with 2x HDMI Inputs and a single eARC output. No SMART functions or even a SMARTos. I off-board all that and find it cumbersome to the non tech people in the house.
