Hello, a few weeks ago my old Denon X1100W (and with that a little part of me) died, I dont know, that happened, the problem isnt easily identifiable, it smelled like it would be, but it looks like new inside. Thing is, I really need something to drive my speakers from my pc since music is essential to my new part time work (musical therapeutic yoga for kids, youths and young adults)

Thing is, I am really pinched on money right now and well... AVRs are hella expensive, especially with an 7.2 speaker setup and the eventual wish to upgrade on the speaker side (especially the stereo-channels, to have like 6 stereo boxes in a 5-7 channel surround). Having found a device, that I can afford (Onkyo TX SR494), and coming from the audio space, I reckon, there must be a) a better way and b) something, that... Well... Doesn't make me pay for a million things i dont need and has enough power.

To elaborate on things I don't need, I mean things like automatic measurement (since I do this manually with DB Meters and mics, that are not made of junk). Internet isn't necessary on those devices for me, especially the Alexa, or Okay google stuff, I'd rather have something without that. Also I don't need any height visualisation or alike since most of the stuff, the thing plays is mefitative music for work and bassy music for fun (plus some ocassional gaming or movie sessions but that is not the main focus)

The things I want/need are: 2 HDMI In and 1 HDMI out (4k would be preferred) 1-2 aux/RCA/XLR/whatever inputs Low latency, since I have audio and video content 2 sub preouts (if not needet, I don't wanna daisy-chain here) Surround 5.2 channels and up BUT as much speaker-outputs as possible (like for example for dual channel stereo). OR some preamp outs (since I have a lot to do with audio stuff in general I can get my hands on amps and stuff on the cheap. Thing is, those are mono/stereo since the audio space I am famillar with is PA stuff, I never wrapped my head around the surround/HDMI Stuff properly) Some power on the channels, the denon most likely had to much from my music. Or a bunch of preamp outs for future upgrades.

The setup will mostly play music, the Software for the yoga stuff renders in 5 channel Surround, the music I listen to in my free time is stereo (and was amped to all zone stereo on my denon). The genres are meditative yoga stuff with a lot of bassy and resonance/dissonance based sounds, the music I Listen to mostly in my free time (and while DJing) is Tekno and stuff alike. Sometimes I play videogames, movies are watched rarely on the system.

Wrote up my speaker setup recently on another post but forgot, that it is an frankenstein setup, with a lot of drivers, that got replaced. Most of them are 60-120W @6 ohm base made by teufel, one pair of 3 channels wants 100W @6 cab made my uher

Sooooooo... That brings me to my questions:

Are there any solutions for my home audio system aside from the classic AVR "one box does it all" approach, that I could go for?

If so, what are my options, how much would they be?

If not, which AVR would be a good one for me? Would the Onkyo SR494 suffice and live for a few years down the road or is there somthing like a 5 channel avr that has just a lot of speaker outs for things like dual stereo channels? Those things are extremely hard to search for :D

So what is the most watt-per-channel per money surround setup that I could go with? :D

Also unrelated question: can I just amp the zone 2 outs on all avrs and have it mirror the main channel at all times? Friend of mine said, that is not possible on his, while I recon, that it was possible on mine.

Sorry for the long writeup, wanted to be as specific as possible and hope, you can provide me with a good solution. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I have a Denom X1700H running a 5.0 setup. My current amp assign is saying zone 2. Is that correct? My follow up is this. Whenever I turn off my system, my receiver is still on, in a low light mode. It displays "Zone 2 on". This causes it to still eat energy and produce heat. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to manually select and turn off Zone 2 every time I want to power off? I can post pictures if needed and any help is welcome. Thank you!

I currently run an SVS Prime center, and Prime Satellites as my Left and Right.

Prime Satellites are being moved to SL/SR and replacing them with bookshelf's for the L/R.

Could the L/R be upgraded with the SVS Ultra bookshelf's? Or is it necessary to get the SVS Prime bookshelf's to timber match the center?

I don't run a subwoofer, and probably shouldn't (apartment living)

I try a lot of settings, but the judder still there. I was thinking why. Qn90a has separate settings no even with judder at 0 (HDTVtest that keeping at 0 keeps 5:5 pull down)

So i try on game mode. I'm not lying the judder is goine. I did put the settings how i had it before. Sharpeness 0 and so on. The movies and tv do look so much better. Now i need to calibrate this thing the colors are off

I'm wondering what I'm i losing when I'm not using the other modes "made for tv"

I am considering upgrading my 5.4.4 system to 7.4.4 by adding (2) rear surrounds (JBL 530). However, the space is open in the back of my room so they will need to go on stands. My side surrounds are also on 32 inch stands which puts the tweeter at about 49 inches which works well as there is usually no one blocking the side. My issue though is what height stands I need for the rear while providing a stable mounting. Of course, the reason this is an issue is the recliner back height (theater chair) potentially blocking the sound. I would probably need at least a 45 inch stand to raise the tweeter to 60 inches which is probably not practical. So realistically what stand height do most people use for rear surrounds, which may or may not be ideal but workable? Thanks.

My wife wanted a circular tv console. The designer recommends we get a console even though it's attached to the wall, so we wanted something quality that looks good.

Looks like we'd need something atleast 78 inches or wider so this seems to fit the bill although just barely. Thoughts/advice?

Hi all,

New to the sub, so sorry if this is explained already elsewhere.

I'm interested in building a medium to high end home theater. We have an LG C2 in the center right now and that's it. If I'm willing to drop $1500 now to get the audio started, what would you recommend? I'm thinking ~$500 on receiver and then two towers? Is this a good approach? Any specific recommendations for this approach?

Thanks!

Dolby Atmos - The definition I've read online doesn't just super line up with my experience. All the marketing junk says it's an "object based" audio system, but when I'm looking for the actual AV equipment all I'm seeing is the addition of upward firing or ceiling mounted downward firing speakers. is this basically just adding a height dimension to your audio tracks and using essentially the same 5.1 image positioning we've had for years on another axis?

For the height channels, do these need to be mounted directly above your LR speakers, or can / should they be done wider than your LR mains?

The places my TV can go in my living room are pretty limited for a number of reasons, which makes the speaker placement limited also. How wide do my LR. mains need to be to keep a true stereo image? my couch is ~15ft away from my TV, but I only have about 5 feet max distance that I could have between speakers. is this enough space to even worry with? essentially they would have to sit just below the L and R corners of my TV.

I'm thinking of starting with a 2.1 setup and building out to 3.1 > 5.1 > 5.1.2 system as I save for it. I have more experience with live audio systems than home theater systems, but speakers are speakers, right? I shouldn't have to worry about compatibility issues when buying new speakers as I go, should i?

Is there anything specific I should be looking for in an AVR that you've found indispensable in your daily life? I'm still working out my budget, but I can already tell you about $600 will be my max for a receiver. I've been eyeing the Denon AVR-S760 though.

Last question - what did you learn when building out your system that you wish you knew beforehand?

I have an AVR that only supports Dolby Digital & DTS. It does NOT support Dolby Digital + or Atmos signals.

I want a Digital IN, Digital OUT processor that converts DD+ to DD. Is there such a product?

Hey guys,

Maybe you can help me. I have an LG UJ6307 4K TV that has stereo RCA outputs and we'd like to split the audio using a Behringer Headphone Amp as we don't want to disturb the baby watching TV. So I connected the Behringer headphone amp with an RCA to JACK cable then I'm stuck as none of the Audio Output settings seem to work. The headphone amp works correctly as I tested it in other cases. Do you have any idea how to set it up?

Thanks,

Adam

Hi guys, I was looking for a long (~10m/30ft) fiber optic HDMI cable that will work 4K@120Hz and support eARC. I found a couple of them on Amazon, one of them is about 50 bucks, the other one around 100 bucks. The more expensive one seems to be certified, does that matter at all from a quality/longevity perspective?

Here are the options:

Certified: Non-certified:

Thanks!

I have a TCL C845 and when watching regular SDR content, the picture is very bright which is to be expected. However whenever I switch to content that uses dolby vision and to an extend HDR/HDR10, the picture is noticeably dimmer, I was wondering if that's normal? switching from Dolby Vision IQ or Dark over to Bright is better, but I feel like I still have to adjust the gamma to get a less dim picture. I'm new to technologies like HDR/Dolby Vision as this is my first tv in a decade, so I'm just not sure what is to be expected. I'm using the in-built Google TV apps.

Due to the layout of my room, my ceiling speakers are positioned very close to the screen / about a foot back from the front left and right channels.

Would me setting them to front height on my Denon amp rather than Top / Ceiling front have much of an impact on the audio processed through them?

Hi, I live in Singapore and would like some advice on my budget setup! I also have some other questions that I hope can get answered :) All price I've quoted have been converted to USD.

My current setup:

Mission LX2, Wharfedale WH-S8e 8" Powered Sub, SMSL AO200 MkII, Source: Plugged into Computer via USB / Unbalanced 3.5mm to RCA

Use cases:

Movies, videos, music streaming (Spotify Premium only, not planning to turn to lossless or higher bitrate). I also place them on my desk and I sit quite near to them if that helps.

Upgrade Advice:

I'm quite satisfied with my setup but I'm looking into improving it even further. Will upgrading to a 10" Sub net the most improvement? I've read that 10" is like the baseline for subs and 8" isn't quite enough to reproduce the lowest sub-bass. If yes, what are your recommendations for powered subs? The A100P was on the Product Recommendations on r/HTBuyingGuides and I was about to get a used one for ~$250 but I wasn't quick enough. I saw a used Wharfedale SW-10 going for ~$330, would that be a good pick too?

Some other general questions I have:

  1. I read that pairing the AO200 MkII with a standalone DAC like the SU-1 instead of using the internal one would improve the sound a lot, but is that really true? I'm not the best at picking out minute details, for example when switching between USB and Unbalanced inputs I don't hear any perceivable difference (volume of the AO200 was set at around 20, slightly higher when using USB)
  2. Does the size of the bookshelf speaker matter if you already have a subwoofer? (i.e. LX-1 vs LX-2 vs LX-3, or QA 3010i vs 3020i vs 3030i)

Thank you for reading!

I have a super old center speaker I purchased at circuit city. Lol. I can't hear the audio very well. I have a very nice Amp Yamaha. I was thinking of upgrading to the klipsch 504. I can't afford the 504-ii. Should I wait until the 504c-ii are on special again, or just go for the 504c which is on sale right now for 369.00? Thank you all for your feel. I should also ask if there might be another option?
