As the title says. When the subwoofer has been on for a while, say watching a movie it starts turning itself off and on. I turned the auto on off switch to off as it did it more with that set to on. The subwoofer is second hand so wouldn't surprise if it just had met it's end. Checked all the wires etc.

Any suggestions or do I just accept the fate and look for a new sub?

I’m curious, how bright can Dolby Vision Profile 5 get? I know profile 7 with FEL can theoretically hit 10,000nits, but does Profile 5 hit a significant number too? Or is it totally dumbed down for streaming?

Hi!

Second hand Marantx SR6009 with Cerwin Vega 2x 12” V12F, 1x center speaker and two sats. All of it for 350 eur.

My TV (Samsung S90C) supports Dolby Atmos (not DTS or Dolby Vision). It has HDMI 2,1 ports and eARC. I got my PC connected to it with a 2,1 HDMI cable for 4k 120 Hz gaming.

It’s an older reciever and according to crutchfield no support for >60 FPS in 4k and no HDMI 2,1. I’m not sure if it’s a problem since I connect my PC to the TV with a HDMI 2,1 cable and the tv also has eARC. Can I “get away” with this or do I need a more modern reciever?

Very thankful.

I have a multi-purpose room with a 5.2.4 setup. I do listen to a lot of my rips in this room too. Right now I am just playing them via plex on my NVIDA shield. Would I get a better sound with a streamer like the Wiim?

So here is the soundbar I currently have:

I've been quite happy with this unit, but I know that once I have a larger living space and more budget it will be time to move on to greener pastures.

I'd like to get a general sense of what I have to look forward to/save up for in future.

Me living on my own is quite a ways off, but me and my family are looking to move to a different state and we'll be actively looking for properties with more than one master bedroom. We'd also be buying versus renting, so the option to go full on home theater might be sooner than I think.

Just to quickly give insight into my situation, my entertainment is split about 70%/30% in favor of video games versus movies/TV if you go by sheer hours in a given day. Everything I do currently is through the Xbox, and the TV is just a TV.

I don't have any desire to change that or buy a standalone Blu Ray player unless absolutely necessary, so whatever home theater setup I get needs to be compatible with a gaming console.

Side note: my biggest complaint with the bar is that if our WiFi router is too close to it, the subwoofer cuts out constantly. If the router is far enough away for the sub to function perfectly, it smothers any WiFI signal trying to come in, and my phone gets 60mbps on a gigabit internet plan. I've heard having a wired sub would eliminate that issue, but you would know better than I whether that's always the case.

Will be interested to hear how much work I have cut out for me.

Hi fellow enthusiasts. Looking for some advice here after scouring countless Reddit posts and reading through some Dolby recommendations. Running 5.1.4 Klipsch reference premiere and svs pb1kpro.

I need 4 atmos speakers and I’m hoping to stay at or under $600 total. My couch is butted up against the rear wall, about 12 ft from the front speakers/screen. About 8ft ceilings.

I’ve looked into angled woofers and it seems that 15-20 degrees is about all that I can find within my price range. Since the couch is butted up against the wall, I’m struggling to figure out what to do with the rears in particular.

Should I go angled fronts and downward firing rears directly above listening position? Should I put angled rears as far back as possible above the couch and aim them forward?

Here’s a few angled speakers that I’ve stumbled across, not sure what to go with. Will bigger 8” woofers make much of a difference, or is 6.5”/dual 4.5” plenty for atmos?

So to start this is what I run in my home

I have a Denon AVR-S970H

Left and right channel speakers- Klipsch Reference Series 5-1/4"

Center channel -Polk Audio 255C-RT

Ceiling L/R - JBL Stage 260CSA

Surround L/R - Polk Audio 265 RT

Subwoofer - JBL 550p powered subwoofer

I like the way everything is set up, and I know I have plenty of room to upgrade when I’m ready too. My question is though how exactly does amplification work in Home AVR? I’m still a complete newbie when it comes to all of this stuff and I want to understand how an amplifier works with home audio and how to properly find one for my set up, where to find the best kind of information, and while I understand a lot can be biased like with Car A/V, but in short I want to understand better, if I need to give more information I will do my best, I’m extremely ADHD and get scatterbrained a lot but I want to learn more I’m young and just want to better understand anything I can

I think I understand the point of them. Take sound and break it up then redispurse that sound. Could someone explain their benefit in a HT or share a highly recommended YouTube video that would explain them in greater detail. I’ve just added x3 24x48 foam board panels but I am debating whether I add more acoustic foam board or to get some diffusers. Thanks!

I'll go first and mine is probably the pod racing scene from Star Wars: Phantom of the Menace. Probably because it adds nostalgia from when I saw it in theaters

I bought a QLED Samsung TV (QE55Q60C) a couple weeks ago and it's great... except for the fact that when it shows end credits or any almost-black picture, I see poor, uneven backlight.

I attached several photos here but what's funny is that it looks different every time (has a little different spots).

I still have two days to return it. But I've found out that many Samsung TVs have this kind of backlight bleeding. So maybe replacing with another unit won't help? Or did I really get a defective unit? Will it get worse with time?

What should I do?

It's not dust. I wiped it several times :)

I just got a new couch (the old one wasn't against the wall allowing for 7.1), TV (Hisense 75in u8k), and receiver (Onkyo TX-NR7100).

With the couch being against the wall I imagine 7.1 is out and the surrounds would need to be mounted high. With this in mind which configuration do you guys think would sound best? The receiver has a ton of options, but I don't have any experience with how any outside of the standard ones sound.

The devices i have connected are: Apple TV 4K Gen 1, PlayStation 5, DP-UB824 and Sony A80J

Is there something i did wrong in the setup? It worked perfectly before connecting the bluray player

Hey guys!

Wanted to check here to see if anyone knows of any projector ceiling mounts that are quick to take the projector on and off from. Plan to use my projector at home but also want to be able to bring it car camping easily. I have a benq w1070. Appreciate it!

I tried connecting Sony MDR-HW700DS headphones to Denon AVR-X2600H AVR according to Sony user manual (see below), but I did not get a signal (even video) for Nvidia Shield. The TV sound worked fine on the headphones. I connected the Sony DP-HW700 processor to Denon's HDMI 1 slot.

All HDMI cables are quality cables, certified 8K 60fps, so they are not the problem.

Method A

I then tried another method of connecting (see picture below). If I recall correctly, the video signal was fine and there was sound on my 5.1.2 speaker setup but nothing on the headphones. I think I connected the HDMI from Sony to Denon's 4K/HDCP2.3 Monitor2. I am not sure, I tried a lot of things.

Method B

Can anyone help? What am I doing wrong? How should I connect the devices and do I need to change something in Sony or Denon setup? I tried restarting devices and I tried different sources on the DP-HW700 (Sony processor) but no help.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new home theater. I'm seeking input from the collective mind on any blind spots or things I can improve in the setup. This is a slightly different setup from what I usually see here.

This is what I have picked out (5.1.2 setup):

  • TV: Sony XR75X93L
  • AVR: AudioControl Concert XR6S
  • FL, FR, Center: B&W CWM7.3 S2
  • SR, SL: B&W CCM7.5 S2
  • Atmos: B&W CCM663
  • Sub: SVS PB16 Ultra
  • Power Distro: AudioQuest PowerQuest 707

Due to lack of floor space I wanted to put all of the speakers in the walls/ceilings, which I'm going install myself. I'm pretty set on the single PB16 Ultra even though I know the general consensus around here is to spring for 2 subs.

Thanks!

Our baby is soon to be crawling and walking, does anyone have a recommendation for surround speaker stands that would be hard for him to pull over and hurt himself?
