**Tried posting a video. Said it would convert to a GIF but not seeing it attached. Will work on that in a few.**

Onkyo TX-NR7100 receiver with an Amazon FireTV Stick in the video. TV is an LG OLED G1 (I believe). When I turn on the three devices and start browsing, the TV will go black and eventually come back with "No Signal" only to then display where I was at prior to the hiccup. Then, when I start playing something, this will happen another 2-4 times randomly and then it eventually stops doing this. It's incredibly frustrating b/c it happens every time I sit down to watch something or play something on my PS5.

Note the receiver lights also flash off / on when it goes through this process.

It will eventually more or less stop doing this, but maybe happens again an hour or so into watching / playing something. Point being, it happens a bunch up front and then chills out enough so that I can enjoy my movie/game/etc.

Happy to troubleshoot or provide more video. I feel like it may have something to do with the video quality (Dolby/HDR) and the content being displayed (it's catching up?), but no idea. If you find me a solution I will Venmo you $20! PLEASE HELP!

I picked up this MicroVee for $150 which seems to be a pretty good deal judging by what other ones have sold for. I'm not "a home theatre guy" and didn't even know about Velodyne before I saw this thing on Facebook Marketplace - I was just looking for a small sub because I have space constraints, and supposedly this is one of, if not the best you can get as far as a tiny sub goes.

Seller said it "Works great."

Picked it up, got home, plugged it in, and the power light did not illuminate.

I would have liked to hear it ahead of time, but it was a porch pickup.

"Great, it's dead" I thought, but trying to stay optimistic, I also thought maybe the light just doesn't work, so I fed it some audio, and ... nothing.

I pulled the plate amp off the back, and to my delight I saw that the internal fuse was blown. Excellent, that's easy.

Nay nay...

And here's where I got dumb - I didn't have the correct fuse on hand so I stuck a bolt into the fuse holder to see if the thing would work if I were to replace the fuse.

It let out the magic smoke.

If I had actually gotten a fuse, I'm sure it would have blown immediately upon applying power, and I'd know it was something else, but instead I just cooked something.

I'm going to take it fully apart and see what I toasted - hopefully it's just the switch (that's where the smoke came from), but if it's a deeper issue, my first thought is to just get whatever mono amp off Amazon and run the driver straight to that, completely bypassing the plate amp.

What would you do?

Hi,

I like to have a rain sound when I sleep.

I'd love to have a Dobly Atmos one. However I can't find one for the life of me except on those subscription apps.

Where can I find Dolby Atmos Downloadable Rain Tracks?

Hello. I have an Hisense H55U7B, and am trying to watch 4K movies from an usb, which are mostly HDR/10/Dolby vision. Colors look very pale and washed out. I have tried some different calibration settings but nothing really looks good, and they don't really stick as after some time the settings go back to their standard somehow. Also I don't find an option to simply turn the HDR off.

So my questions are:

  1. is there a calibration workout to make HDR look like it should?
  2. should I simply turn HDR off? How is this done?
  3. should I try to download 4K SDR movies instead? I think this is difficult to get by...

Thank you!

Hi All -

Im just in the middle of setting up a new home system and was wondering about adding some more Bass & having an adjustment knob close by as well.

I have a Dayton Audio 10"

and was wanting to see thoughts on adding a Nobsound 100w Mini Sub Amp in between.

Im worried adding power mid line to a powered sub is not Good.

So this unit:

With this before the sub connection.

So, I got this old audio system from my dad that's just been sitting around collecting dust for years. At their old house where it was already wired through the walls, it sounded great. Now, I'd like to set it up but I have some questions.

  1. I'd like to have the two rear surround sound speakers as shown in the photo, where there's two perfect spots already available. I'm renting this house but even if I wasn't I'm not destroying the walls to wire through, so is there a way to wirelessly connect them to this receiver?
  2. The speakers are just speakers, so worst case scenario I should just be able to buy a new modern receiver and use these speakers, right?
  3. Does the subwoofer need to be on the floor? For aesthetic symmetry purposes I suppose I could rearrange the area, just curious.

tl;dr I wanna know the most feasible yet affordable way to get those surround sound speakers to connect to the receiver wirelessly. Please let me know y'alls ideas, thanks.

Have set up a dedicated theater room with permanent seating for 6 (still need to build a riser for the back 3) but was wondering if anybody has suggestions for temp/flex seating, preferably budget, for when we have guests or the kids have friends over. Thanks in advance for any insights or do's/don'ts that this sub can share!

Which do you think has the advantage? For example, this matchup between an ELAC Muro OW-V41L and Revel Concerta2 S16. More, smaller woofers versus a single bigger woofer. What's the better design?

ELAC

Revel

I am looking for some help on designing a home theatre system .

The room is a 17.5 feet length by 14.5 foot width.

I was thinking of going with the Kilpsch 5.1.4 home theatre

Can someone recommend a better system or a better choice . Can you also recommend a receiver I can use with the above.

Appreciate all the help. Do let me know if any other information is required and I can edit this post

Today I went to my local big box store and they have a crazy clearance 55in samsung qn90b for $500. I currently have a cu7000 I got as a gift over a year ago. I was wondering if it is worth the upgrade for that price or should I wait to spend 3-4 times the price for a nice OLED TV in a year or so. Honestly I haven't been enjoying my movies very much on the cu7000 because the dark areas just go completely black most of the time. Any input on if a small upgrade is worth $500?

Questions

  • How big should my projector screen be? (viewing distance 12’, wall is 18.3’ x 9’, projector throw distance 15’ 9”)
  • What aspect ratio? 16:9? I watch with subtitles.
  • What Acoustically Transparent screen do you recommend?
  • What projector do you recommend? I’m considering JVC DLA-NZ7 or DLA-NZ8.
  • Should my front speakers be in-wall or floor-standing behind the AT screen?
  • 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 or 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 audio?
  • What in-ceiling speakers do you recommend?
  • What Front, Center, Surround speakers do you recommend?
  • How can I simulate the experience of the Krix Wall of Sound? (I’m in the US)

Context

  • My new home came with a Home Theater but I want to overhaul the old / broken setup. Ex. one of the ceiling speakers doesn’t work, projector is 1080p, screen is too small.
  • I’m tech savvy but not good with physical installations or modifications, will hire an AV company to do the work.
  • Home Theater will be 90% used for movies and TV. 0% for watching sports or listening to music.
    • I may try playing video games also but I’ve had bad experiences with playing video games with complex setups beyond 5.1 audio (games seem to be poorly mixed for additional channels).
  • Home Theater room can be completely blacked out. There are no windows so all lighting can be controlled. Walls are painted dark gray.
  • Mom likes to watch during meals and wants to have at least dimmed lighting in the room.
  • My budget is open-ended.

Video

  • Projector
    • JVC DLA-NZ7 or DLA-NZ8?
  • Projector Screen
    • Interested in Acoustically Transparent screens to maximize screen size and have more immersive audio
    • Can be permanently mounted, no need for retractability
    • What size?

Audio

  • Front and Center
    • Interested in placing the Front speakers behind a Acoustically Transparent screen
    • There are existing speakers in the wall but they sound bad to me
    • Not sure replace the in-wall speakers, or get floor-standing speakers?
    • What front and center speakers do you recommend?
    • I currently have 2X ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 and ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2.
  • Ceiling
    • Room already has 4 speakers in the ceiling, but 1 doesn’t work.
    • What in-ceiling speakers do you recommend?
  • Surround
    • Should I have 2 Surrounds or add 2 Rear Surrounds also? (5.1.4 vs 7.1.4?)
    • I wonder if my room is too small for Rear Surrounds to make sense.
    • What surround speakers do you recommend?
  • Subwoofer
    • Should I have 1 or 2 Subwoofers?
    • Placement?
    • What subwoofer do you recommend? I currently have a SVS PB-1000.
  • What speaker models should I get?

Receiver

I currently have a Denon AVR-X3700H 9.2-Channel. May need to upgrade if more channels are needed.

Home Theater (Media) Room

  • 9’ (2.74m) high
  • 18’ 4” (5.59m) wide - wall with screen
  • 18’ 5” (5.61m) deep
  • 12’ (3.66m) from primary viewing seat to the wall
  • 15’ 9” (4.81m) projector throw distance (guessing)
  • Wall behind screen is 6” (0.15m) thick
  • Has a small closet (CLO) with a equipment rack and cables that run through the wall to projector, 4 ceiling speakers (1 is not working), and 3 front in-wall speakers

Photos of the current room (the cabinets in front of the screen will be moved away)

I, as of today, have a 5.1 setup and from what I've read, the best way to position these speakers as surrounds is as shown in this diagram

Is this correct (shoukd they be on the back wall ljke this) and how far apart should they be? Unfortunately, the door to the room is in a bit of an annoying spot and limits how far apart I can place them.

Did not have max volume set in my AVR. My dog stood on the remote, quickly maxing out the volume during a gunfire scene in HEAT. Martin Logan F200s damn near blew the windows out and REL knocked decorations off the wall lol

Hey all - So, my setup is a 7.2.4 handled by a marantz SR8015. Inputs are ps5, roku ultra, Panny UHD BD

I am using both Monitor 1 and 2 out options:

  • Monitor 1 (ARC/eARC) connected to a Sony XR85S90L which can do 4k@120hz - connect by a active hdmi 48 gbps hdmi (long run).

  • Monitor 2 connected to a JVC DLA-RS1000 projector via hdmi 2.0b cable that can do 4k@60

PS5 looks way better on the TV. Projector uses a 120" elite screen CineTension2.

Now the issue I am having : AVR can do a dual output, but will only send a signal that is common to both and for some reason will only do 1080p to the Sony even. Bizarre and been fighting this for a bit, but no luck.

So, I unplugged the Monitor 2 and immediately could get 4k hdr, dolby vision etc all start working.

Now I can go into marantz and manually change the hdmi out to 1 or 2 within the settings menu - which isnt all that great.

I really want to be able to switch between the 2 monitor outputs - there is no option with the remote to do so. Any thoughts on what I could do here with the AVR?

Any thoughts on how this could be accomplished otherwise? Some sort of external hdmi switcher I can control with a harmony or something when I program macro commands?

Any advice appreciated! Thanks much!
