I posted a little over a month ago about our new home build with a dedicated movie room. I sat with the AV specialist that is running all the low voltage/networking and a/v wire through the house (the electrician is currently running wire this week). Here is his recommendations for this home theater room. I'd love some feedback to make sure we're going in a good direction.

Our room will be roughly 10 x 20. It has a side closet for all the networking switches and a/v equipment to be housed. For this room I’m budging $15k-$20k for equipment. The attached photo is of a finished room from the builder's home (our plan is a carbon copy).

Recommendations are:

JVC LX-NZ Black projector

100" Acoustic projection screen

Martin Logan LCR Motion Series In-Wall x3 (Front L,R & C)

Martin Logan SS Motion Series In-Wall x2

(I previously bought) Klipsch Reference Premiere 1400 14" subwoofers x 2

Denon - AVR-X2800H

So - this looks to be accomplishing a solid 5.2 Dolby system. Would it be worth while trying to make this a 5.2.2 by adding two in-ceiling speakers above the seating area? The ceiling line is not ideal because of the slanted side walls (but can't change that). If we did add in-ceiling speakers above the seating area they'd almost both be directly above and not off to sides of the room (I'm guess that is a very weird placement). I could use something like the Martin Logan Helos 12 that has a directional tweeter???

I also think a 7.2 system might be tough because of the back wall being further back, and I don't want to do bookshelf speakers on stands.

As far as the projector - I have no experience there and just blindly going with the recommended JVC.

So, I have a new Shield to paly with and I can't get the damn thing to work well with my eARC soudnbars.

Audio cuts, drops, mutes, you name it.

No matter the settings, no matter the cables used, no matter nothing. eARC is just buggy.

I figured I would sell the damn soundbars and buy a used 2.0 Powered speaker set up, connect it directly to the shield/mecool with SPDIF and call it a day.

What really am I losing besides surround?

Hello all, Is Nad t778 a good purchase in 2024. I don’t need independent sub outs as I already have a minidsp 2x4hd, also I don’t care gaming hdmi 2.1 as well. But considering the price compare to x3800h, is this a good buy.

Thanks guys .

Just looking for advice or opinions here. I got a great deal on a second hand Seas Thor towers and matching Oden speaker that run my LCR, which I love. I have a pair of Martin logan SLM that are my surrounds, which I am personally not fond of. I'm thinking that it might be a fun project to build out some surround speakers that would better match, but I have no idea where to start to even see if it's worth it.

Also, currently I have 5.1.4. And am also going to be upgrading to 7.1.4 this year. So I know easy path is to just buy an additional set of the SLMS, or I could have a project.😀

We're currently finishing a 12'6" x 25' room in our basement, and my wife has approved me making one side of it a theater room as long as the other side remains a playroom for the kids. The room will remain open throughout. Due to ductwork, joists, and furring strips, I know I can't get the ideal location for Atmos speakers, although I do have some wiggle room from the listed positions. I can't really change the main listening position because of the size and shape of the sectional we'll be using for the main seating.

I know it's a very budget based setup for the speakers, but I already have all of them from deals the last 2-3 years knowing I'd eventually be finishing this room. I've tried to show the expected TV and speaker locations, although I will be rotating and moving them as necessary in the space I have to get the best possible experience.

To me it feels like position three for all four Atmos speakers would probably be best, but I'd love some other opinions.

Important details:

  • Left/Right: Jamo S809
  • Center: Jamo S83 Cen
  • Rear: Jamo S803
  • Subs: Klipsch R-12SW
  • Atmos: Micca M-8C
  • Receiver: Pioneer VSX-LX303
  • TV: TCL QM8 75"

I'm looking to replace my Pioneer VSX-S520 because of glitches and other annoyances. I only need to drive 2 bookshelf speakers, but have some other specific features that I'd like. No real budget constraints, as long as I'm not overpaying for stuff I don't need.

Needed features:

  • At least 4 HDMI inputs (Nvidia Shield and some consoles)
  • eARC
  • Able to decode most common codecs
  • Fast decoding (the Pioneer has a few seconds of silence when starting a video, which I'd like to avoid)
  • Modern UI (really can't stand the clunky, early-2000s interface of the Pioneer)

Nice to have:

  • DAB+ Radio
  • Streaming services like Spotify

Recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Debating whether or not to go projector or Tv. The space is roughly big enough for a 92” screen.

It has to be a roll up screen so it think UST projectors are out. I was looking at the Epson 3800 or 5050

Or just go with a 77” OLED
