I have a nearly impossible set of constraints:

  • tv is on a table top stand giving me a maximum of about 7" height and 14" depth for a center channel
  • couch is 9-10 feet (viewing distance) in front of tv, but
  • at about 30-40 degrees there is some exercise equipment and my wife likes to watch tv while using it, so side dispersion is pretty critical
  • av cabinet is nice looking thing with doors with wooden slats. Great for ventilating the receiver but if I put a center into it it'll be behind slats. For domestic reasons we are keeping this

I have seen the Erin Audio video on why most center channel speakers with the MTM design just suck and it looks like I don't have enough space for a 3-way center so I'm pretty worried about the sound being even intelligible from 30 degrees. It doesn't need to sound great, bad is ok there so long as you can make out dialogue

Room is a big midsize rectangle with the TV across the narrow side from the couch and the exercise equipment off in the big area to the left of the couch facing the TV at an angle.

So.... options

  1. Ignore the problem and get a low profile center. Dialogue will likely be unintelligible from the exercise equipment but good at the couch. Maybe I can find a way to get her headphones that carry the sound.
  2. Get a monstrous stand, raise the TV way up, and put a 3-way. Probably the best conventional option but will require some neck craning to watch TV
  3. Put a big 3 way center in the cabinet behind the wooden grill. I assume that this isn't really any better than 1 for dispersion and it probably is worse in the couch (though some sound will go straight out)
  4. Skip the center completely, get some good? towers and let the receiver create a phantom center
  5. Get creative - lay a bookshelf on its side under the TV? As a single point source would this be better?
  6. Even more creative, vertical bookshelf in the cabinet behind the slats - may not do any good

Three or four days ago I knew nothing about this topic so I may be an idiot, please educate me if I'm saying dumb things

There is a post from about 5 months ago, where OP quoted a reply from Emotiva that all their current speakers would be discontinued as their new lineup was coming around the end of 2023.

Obviously it’s only barely 2024 at this point, but has there been any hint of when we’ll hear anything?

Looking for purchasing advice on either a 3.1 or 3.0 setup. This usage will be 50-20-20-10 for Movies/TV, Gaming, Music and Sports respectively. I am currently trying to decide between these two configurations:

Config 1

AVR: Denon x1700h

Sub: RSL Speedwoofer 10s

L/R: KEF Q350

Centre: KEF Q650c

Config 2

AVR: Denon x1700h

L/R: KEF Q950

Centre: KEF Q650c

The room is about 15' x 25' with the viewing distance to the TV being around 9'. One additional worry of mine is that the x1700h will not be able to drive the Q950s.

I am looking to set up a TV in our kitchen that mirrors the content that is playing on our living room LG C1 TV. Basically all the content on that TV is coming from an Apple TV. I am okay with running an HDMI cable in the walls to the kitchen but am looking for recommendations on a device that can split the HDMI connection to two TVs without loss of quality (HDMI 2.1 4K 120hz Dolby vision…) at least on the living room TV, if I lose some quality to the kitchen TV that is acceptable. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Hi all!

I'm in the market for a new 5.1 surround sound system and could use some advice. I've been considering the Samsung Q900B soundbar, but I'm now leaning towards a more traditional setup since I already have cabling in place from an old Pioneer system that's over 20 years old.

My main requirement is that the speakers need to be compact – about the size of Klipsch Reference Cinema speakers or smaller. I'm working with a budget of up to 1500 USD, even better if up to 1000 USD and available in Europe (I already have a capable AVR from another system). I'm looking for a speaker system that is reliable and aesthetical. Or am I better off just going with a soundbar?

I'd appreciate any recommendations on brands or specific models that you've had good experiences with.

Hello,

So I recently got my hands on a samaung oled 65 inch TV. With 4 120hz hdmi ports.

And a denon x2700h receiver. The receiver has 5x 4k/hdcp2.3 inputs + 1x 8k in so total 6 hdmi and 2x 8k/hdcp2.3 out of which one supports ARC/eARC

The receiver also has 2x optical digital inputs

The equipment I will connect are Xbox X and ps5 and possibly a fire Stick or an nvidia Shield none of which support Optical audio.

So the first question I got, should I be connecting the TV to the receiver via Optical or HDMI eARC?

The second question is, should I connect all of the HDMI equipment to the receiver or the TV. (the receiver supports pass through and 4k/120hz) so I would assume that it should be fine but I believe just because a device has pass through doesn't mean it plays well with Dr enabled content.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Hello all,

I see that this topic comes up a lot, and I was trying to google/reddit first, but feel like I need a bit of hand holding! lol.

I just picked up an LG C3 77. I have an HDMI cable plugged into HDMI port 2 (the TV). The other end goes into my HDMI switch.

The switch is a 4 in 1. I have the following connected:

Tivo Bolt

XBox One

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Wii

No matter what, if I use the Xbox or Tivo with this switch, my screen on my TV starts to flicker - and I mean bad. It goes black for seconds at a time and then you see a flash of the screen and then back to black ... it's gross. No switch. Everything is fine.

Two guys at Best Buy told me that's because my TV has a 120Hz refresh rate, and the HDMI switch I was using was rated for 60Hz (I actually tried two). OK. Cool. Except that there only seems to be a few that I can find on Amazon (I didn't see any over at crutchfield for example).

  1. Do you all agree with that analysis?
  2. And what's the best Switch to get?

Thank you.

My mother has just bought a new TV (TCL 75c745) and we wanted to connect the active speakers she already had (Argon Audio Tempo A4) to the TV. However, we are unable to connect them. Can anyone here help?

We connected the speakers to the old TV using an optical cable and it worked. Now we have tried the same thing, connecting the speaker to the TV and changing the audio output to 'ARC audio output'. But when we turn on a film or anything with sound, the speakers just make noise, like loud crackling waves, if that makes any sense?

Does anyone here have any idea what the problem might be? The cable itself is fine as it plays normally on the old TV.

Hey guys, looking for opinions. I currently have a 5.1.2 setup I use for gaming, movies and music. I bought the Cinema 60 locally on sale for $1750 (Reg $2200) and it does everything I need, sounds amazing and the new face on the Cinema series look amazing.

But, I notice the Denon 3800H is also the same price but spec'd more like the Cinema 50. I can still return the Cinema 60 and buy a 3800H but I feel like I'm really happy with the sound from the Marantz (and it looks really nice as well). Would I be better off with the Denon in this case though? The Denon has Dirac available and Audyssey XT32 (Marantz has Audyssey XT), Denon also has Imax enhanced and Auro 3d where the Marantz does not.

One thing I also noticed is the Denon is a has two extra channels of power amps but the total power rating on both units is the same?

Purchased a cinema 800 with surround 3 for 5.1. Been having some minor issues with them and they said they could replace them with a Reference Cinema System 5.1.4 + Onkyo TX-NR7100 AV Receiver setup.

I know neither of these are ideal or even remotely compete with most of the home theater setups people run on here. I am asking, if you had to choose either one or the other, which one would it be and why?

I live in an apartment and don't have the funds to invest in anything more atm. Thanks in advance.

I’m graduating from my epsom 3800+white screen to hopefully something better after my basement renovation. My room: light color lime paint (uneven, textured) Projector choice: epson ls800 Ambient light: not too much. I have frosted small windows and blinds that can reject 90% of light outside. Budget: will pay anything for best solution Will prioritize using my projector at night/in the dark. Question is, what screen should I buy?
