Hello,

I'm running a few speaker wires along the carpet and curving it around one of those old school rectangular gas heaters. I'm concerned that the heat may damage the wires over time.

Just wondering if it's going to be a problem and if so, is there an easy solution? I was thinking I could wrap that section of wire in aluminum foil.

I appreciate the help

What do you guys place in priority for your system? I personally prioritize audio over video.

I have 4 Klipsch RP500SA II: 2 at the front wall mounted them downfiring and 2 at the back wall mounted them downfiring

I am not using them with upfiring but hang them high on the wall. Currently have it set at 150 HZ and switched the flip at the back on Atmos

Any idea whether the Klipsch manual's 150Hz or the Audyssey's 80Hz crossover is the way to go? And should I flip the switch at the back to surround or leave it at Atmos?

Just bought a new home with dedicated media room. Nothing huge but it’s pre wired for surround. I could fit an 85inch TV on the wall but I’ve always wanted a projector. Any suggestions or experiences tv vs short throw protection. Keep in mind pre teen plays video games in this room and I’m a sports and movies guy…Thanks

I just noticed SVS has a booth for CES. Do you think they will announce any new products? I heard Focal might launch something but they don't have a booth.

Is the Cinema 50 worth $250 more?

I do like the backlit remote, but is there any differences with internal hardware?

Fairly new to home theater and I am working on building a 5.1 setup. I have already decided on the R-41M and the R-52C. I am going to get the tower speakers way later, but at least to get up and running I need a subwoofer. The R-12SW is typically sold in sets with the others I listed above, but is a bit more money than I’d like to spend. The R-100SW seems to be a better price, but I want to know if this would be okay since they aren’t necessarily designed to work together. I have a Sony STR-DH790 receiver if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!

Happy to buy used.

Currently going round in circles reading official spec of HDMI 2.1/2.0 and AVR product specs and still being unsure of what I actually need.

Requirements: 4k30 HDR10+ 5.1

Would be great if: 4k60 7.1 VRR/ALLM

My TV doesn’t support DV so I don’t need support for this.

Ideally I’d like either Yamaha, as I have experience of this, or Denon as I have read that the calibration is superior.

Thanks in advance!

Finishing a basement home theater, have a BenQ HT2050A projector connected by HDMI through a Yamaha 5.1 receiver to a Sony blu ray player. Watching a blu ray last night and the foreground image was sharp, but sometimes, not all the time, the background looked very soft. It almost had the appearance of when a camera pulls focus…

Any thoughts on where to start looking for the issue? (Settings, equipment, cables?) Thank you for any help.

Hey Everyone!

I have been researching better options for audio and I’m not finding an easy solution. I have a small living room with a retractable screen that covers the bay window. Projector is ceiling mounted Behind couch. Currently I have a cheap soundbar on a floating shelf under the projector connected to optical audio out on projector.

Also connected to the projector through hdmi on the floating shelf are an Apple TV and a nintendo switch.

I know the audio isn’t optimal but I like the ease of just switching to the right hdmi input and the sound bar output automatically switches.

I’ve been looking into sonos since the ikea collaborations make it pretty affordable and originally though I could switch to two bookcase units, then that lead me down the rabbit hole to potentially adding a soundbar (in the correct location under projector screen) for surround down the line. But the connection back to the projector is something I can’t reconcile.

Can it all connect over wifi or something? I’m worried about a PITA connection scenario every time I want to switch inputs if it can all connect at all.

What has everyone else done?

I have an Optima UHZ50 projector (which I’m very happy with) It has an optical and a 3.5mm audio output and eArc on 1 of 3 HDMI outputs

I'm setting up a home theater with the following components:

  • 5.1 audio (B&W 600 series front L/R & center, B&W M-1 surrounds, REL T9 sub-woofer)
  • Epson LS12000 projector
  • PS5
  • AppleTV
  • 133" screen

I currently have a Marantz SR5007 receiver that I got some 10+ years ago. Any recommendations for an upgrade/replacement receiver suitable for my setup?

Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience repairing this dinosaur?

Specifically, i think there's an issue with the voltage selector, there are 2 of them. One is a switch and the other is circular (and i think broken).

Or if there's another subreddit you would recommend.

Thanks!

Hi all, hoping for some wisdom from y'all as I contemplate how best to upgrade my den (music / tv / media / kids play room). I'm rocking a 20 year Panasonic plasma and a decade-old Yamaha receiver with a bunch of channels that have burnt out. I want to enter modernity!

What I want to achieve:

  • Good to great sounding music (streaming, ripped CDs, etc)
  • Strong all around tv/home theater performance (meaning good for streaming movies, streaming sports, streaming tv -- possible upgrades down the line for some Blu-Ray discs (I don't own any currently, though have a bunch of old DVDs hanging around)). Probably going 5.1 or 5.2 (I don't know much about all the fancy new Atmos stuff, but think 5 speaker surround would be good for now as it is not a dedicated room).
  • Acceptable for video games (I mostly game on my PC (if I have time to game) but have an Xbox in the room and will plan to get a next-gen Switch and maybe a Playstation at some point).

What I already have that I don't want to replace:

  • Ascend Acoustics Sierra-2EX with ribbon tweeters for L/R
  • Ascend 340SE center (might upgrade if you think worth it)
  • Sherwood Newcastle A-965 7-channel amp
  • Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Carbon EVO record player. I also have a pre-amp for the turntable.

Room description:

  • Couch is about 12 feet from viewing / listening position.
  • Room is 21x18 and is open to whole house with no chance of enclosing it.
  • As mentioned above, surround side speakers will need to be mounted to ceiling and aimed toward listening position.

What equipment I need (and things I want your input on):

  • New TV, probably 77" (thinking OLED, either C3 or A80L, or whatever comes out early this year)
  • Good receiver with pre-outs for the amp.
  • Surround speakers (maybe -- I have some other old Ascend speakers I could possibly use). Note that these will need to be mounted high up in a not ideal position because the side of the room is open to the house and cannot be enclosed).
  • Maybe upgrade my center if you think it would be worthwhile.
  • Subwoofer(s) (again with focus on music, and realizing that it's a house with kids and is open to the house, so I know I'm not going to get (and don't necessarily want) the crazy loud compression). Always heard that the sealed Rythmiks were good, but maybe there are now better options.
  • Media streamer? I understand that it's probably better to use an external streamer of quality. Leaning toward Apple TV 4k for simplicity. Heard decent things about the Nvidia Shield too, but don't think I need the bells and whistles and complications.
  • Are there any decent blu-ray / CD players that are not insanely expensive?
  • Anything else I'm missing?

I would love specific advice on receivers and subwoofers especially, and any thoughts in general on what I'm missing or what you'd do to enhance the space. I would imagine good room correction would be important, and I want to make sure the subs (and package in total) are great for music.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm looking for a new tv and was hoping to get some guidance as I'm not really up to speed on what's a good TV these days.

I was initially considering the Sony X90L (Best Buy) but after reading some reviews and stuff about the LG OLED TVs, I'm wondering if I should just pay a few hundred more to upgrade to the LG B3 (Best Buy). I know, objectively, that the LG OLED TV is a better TV, with more vibrant colors and everything. I'm just wondering if it's worth the upgrade. The TV will primarily be used for streaming shows/movies. Weekends will be dominated by sports and at least a few hours of gaming.

I did see some posts about being cautious about burn-in when gaming. However, I don't think it should be an issue with either TV as I don't get more than a few hours/week to play with my current schedule.

I'm curious as to what you all think. If I can afford the LG OLED, is it a no brainer? Or is the difference subtle enough that I could save the money, get the Sony X90L and not really miss out.
