Hey all,

Couple of questions for the group. My HT setup is in the "great room", large windows very bright. I need a bigger TV and would like to reduce glares.

  • Is the G3 worth it over the C3 for reducing glare?
  • Is 83" premium price worth it over 77"? 65 vs 77 is a massive jump. 77 vs 83 not so much, but $ jump is huge. Is the adage "size matters" true here?
  • Should i consider non-oled (Samsung qn90c) for my use case? I think I've learned to "deal" with the glare problems as a cost for superior image quality. I'm leaning towards no, but would still like to hear thoughts.

So the case is this.

Until to day, 5.1 trough mini-jack - But with high pitch sounds, buzzing, and so on. It worked, but wife and the dog was complaining.

i wanted to go digital to remove the anoying sounds, so i bought an hdmi audio extractor and a toslink cable.

Every thing connected, the buzzing is gone, but now i cant seem to get surround sound to work.

Running of hdmi on a Nvidia 1660s super, driver up to date.

Hdmi audio extractor

Z5500

Toslink

z5500 is put into diagnostic, and nomather what i send after it, netflix, youtube test videoes, vlc, potplayer, etc. everything i get in signal input, is PCM 2

Speaker output in windows is set to 5.1 (doing the konfiguration, i can only get sound of Left/right speaker)

Any good pointers to what i can do next - To get the digical signal working?

Thanks, and sorry for the spelling, English is not my native.

Was wondering if someone could clarify the use of preout channels on Denon receiver, please

I have installed a total of 13 speakers. Denon x3800h is rated as 9.4 (11.4 with preouts).

Is it possible to power all 13 channels with the use of power amp? Or am I limited to only 11 channels?

Which power amp to complement the Denon is suggested to power all 13 channels? I have installed MA silver range(300, FX, atmos x 4)

Thanks

I had a SpyderX colorimeter which I had to place 30-40cm from the screen at an angle so that the colorimeter won't shadow the measured area. After disappointment from the measurement accuracy with the SpyderX, I switched to the Display Pro. Do I need to place the Display Pro at the same distance from the screen?

I found 2 guides on YouTube, one said to place it as close as possible to the screen and the other (for xrite i3pro) said to place it at a distance no less than 3 times the screen height. So which one is right? I could not find a proper manual for the colorimeter itself...

Finishing a basement home theater, have a BenQ HT2050A projector connected by HDMI through a Yamaha 5.1 receiver to a Sony blu ray player. Watching a blu ray last night and the foreground image was sharp, but sometimes, not all the time, the background looked very soft. It almost had the appearance of when a camera pulls focus…

Any thoughts on where to start looking for the issue? (Settings, equipment, cables?) Thank you for any help.

Hey guys, question...I currently have had the following TV for the last 2 years, the TCL Series 6, 65"...to me, the picture has been incredible, no complaints at all:

Because I wanted a little bit bigger of a screen to fill the space, and move my couch back a foot or so, I upgraded to a 75"..but purchased the Q Class, Class 6:

I've looked up the differences between the Class 6, 7, and M8, but now that I'm looking back at the specs of my current TV...not only am I losing an HDMI port, but the AI picture quality stuff as well, and looks like my older one has full array dimming, whereas the Class 6 doesn't...I'm wondering, is the newer Class 6 going to have worse PQ than my older Series 6?

For reference, this is a secondary TV in the living room, that's used primarily for watching streaming and Xbox Series X/Switch gaming, my main setup is a 120" projector setup in my theater room. This is being delivered Thursday, but if I need to cancel, I can do that.

Hey Everyone!

I have been researching better options for audio and I’m not finding an easy solution. I have a small living room with a retractable screen that covers the bay window. Projector is ceiling mounted Behind couch. Currently I have a cheap soundbar on a floating shelf under the projector connected to optical audio out on projector.

Also connected to the projector through hdmi on the floating shelf are an Apple TV and a nintendo switch.

I know the audio isn’t optimal but I like the ease of just switching to the right hdmi input and the sound bar output automatically switches.

I’ve been looking into sonos since the ikea collaborations make it pretty affordable and originally though I could switch to two bookcase units, then that lead me down the rabbit hole to potentially adding a soundbar (in the correct location under projector screen) for surround down the line. But the connection back to the projector is something I can’t reconcile.

Can it all connect over wifi or something? I’m worried about a PITA connection scenario every time I want to switch inputs if it can all connect at all.

What has everyone else done?

I have an Optima UHZ50 projector (which I’m very happy with) It has an optical and a 3.5mm audio output and eArc on 1 of 3 HDMI outputs

Hello everybody!

I am in the planning stages of renovating my office and would like some help selecting speakers for my modest home theater setup. I have already purchased a Denon AVR-S970H for my AVR and plan to buy a 75" TV (likely the TCL 75QM850G but open to suggestions). I like to listen to music and watch movies. My budget for the speakers is around $500.

The problem, as I've learned from reading this incredibly informative sub, is that my room is small and square (see photo). I don't realistically see the couch being moved to the center of the room -- does that mean I should forgo surround speakers (5.1)? Should I stick to a 2.1 or 3.1 setup because of the room conditions?

The basement is below this room so I can run wire almost anywhere.

One more note: my daughter's bedroom is directly above this room so I don't think I will be able to bump the volume all the time. Not sure if this factors into the speaker recommendations.

So, any suggestions for speakers and their placement?!

Thanks!

I'm setting up a home theater with the following components:

  • 5.1 audio (B&W 600 series front L/R & center, B&W M-1 surrounds, REL T9 sub-woofer)
  • Epson LS12000 projector
  • PS5
  • AppleTV
  • 133" screen

I currently have a Marantz SR5007 receiver that I got some 10+ years ago. Any recommendations for an upgrade/replacement receiver suitable for my setup?

Thanks!

My living room setup is split between streaming tv/movies via projector, and listening to music via vinyl, CDs and Apple Music.

I probably spend 70% of my time watching the projector, but I care much much more about sound quality for my music than I do for my movies/TV.

I’m currently running:

  • Yamaha A-S501 amplifier
  • Q Acoustics 3020i bookshelf speakers
  • Cambridge Audio CXC CD Transport
  • Technics SL-1200 turntable
  • Cambridge Audio 551P phono preamp
  • Apple TV 4k which I airplay Apple Music to

On the video side I’m running an Apple TV 4k, with an HDMI splitter/extractor thing which sends video to the projector via HDMI, and which sends audio to the receiver via optical cable.

Things I’m trying to achieve:

  • Upgrade to surround sound. It’s obviously the standard for TV, but I kinda want this for music listening too( think it would be fun to listen to things in Dolby Surround / Atmos but I have no interest in installing speakers in my ceiling. I also don’t think I want a subwoofer as my neighbor’s bedroom is directly below my living room. Wondering how silly it is to want to do surround sound when I’d probably be doing a 5.0.0 setup.
  • Get a receiver with HDMI inputs/outputs. A few goals here: 1. Plug Apple TV directly into receiver to reduce clutter. 2. Be able to listen to Apple Music losslessly (with potential for atmos/multi-channel - you can’t do multi-channel via airplay) 3. Not have to unplug the HDMI from the Apple TV and plug it into the PlayStation on the rare occasion I play video games.
  • Get good room correction. My living room is severely limited in terms of speaker placement so I feel like good room correction would be a big boost.
  • Improve sound quality without offending my own and my wife’s aesthetic sensibilities. This means avoiding black - wood finish speakers, and silver components ideally. Not have a really ugly piano-black AVR is important as my credenza is solid wood, including the back, so probably not sufficiently vented to hide a receiver.
  • Continue to enjoy my stereo music sources like cds and vinyl without compromising sound quality.

Would love some suggestions - do I go full AVR/surround? Do I just update my speakers? Do I get floorstanders for the front and use the q acoustics at the back? Is there a way to stream Apple Music losslessly in multi-channel without having a tv turned on (don’t want to have to switch on the projector to listen to music).

I am looking to upgrade the sound experience in my living space. The current setup is as shown in the picture and architectural drawings, served by a JBL 9.1 soundbar.

top view

sitting area

We use the space primarily for movies. We do enjoy music as well but we find the soundbar insufficient to fill the space. I hope the upgrade will remedy that.

The easy upgrade would be a 3.1 setup: two floor speakers, one center, one subwoofer. This would not be ideal for movies though. The JBL 9.1 soundbar does have an enhanced experience with the surround speakers placed on the sides of the couch but it is unclear if that is better than a good 3.1 setup as above.

To get to a 5.x setup (or higher/atmos) it would take quite the effort as I unfortunately did not plan for this. Other than projector canal (which links the wall hanging cabinet and projector) there is no other provision for non-electrical cabling in the space. The ceiling is reinforced concrete which means hidden ceiling speakers are likely a no go. There are no canals through the floor for surround speakers to the sofa sides. There are a few power sockets which might work for active wireless speakers but those are not recommended here so I am thinking I should pass those.

The budget for the upgrade is flexible - say 5k but can go higher if it makes sense. This is in mainland Europe (Switzerland) so suggestions on models should take that into account.

I am posting this to get advice:

  1. what's the best upgrade for the space given its limitations and use-case? In particular are there ways I missing in achieving the best audio experience for movies?
  2. advice on equipment given geo location (eu)

I just bought my first Nintendo switch and I am going to install it with my other consoles in my server room, where my HDMI multiplexing is.

My question is, how are you guys going about limited range, sometimes line of site controllers in large home installs. Is there a solution? I’m not sure, but I figured I would ask.

My Xbox does ok, but still suffers from random disconnections at about 2 an hour, and my switch will just not connect.

Thanks!

Well, I'm at 3.0 at the moment because my rear speakers won't arrive until Friday...

...and I already have a question!

But first, the setup as it is now:

Marantz Cinema 70s using pre-amp outs to feed my Cambridge 840a which has a way to assign an input to bypass volume control - so it's the amp powering my B&W 603s3's (that I've had 20 yrs).

B&W M1 center that is being powered directly from the Marantz

Wires in place awaiting more M1's in the appropriate locations.

It's a small room, hence the M1's.

My question already!

Why do the high frequencies seem rolled off on the M1 center channel? I had to check to make sure the tweeter was working! With a 4khz crossover point, it obviously is.. but without measuring I could swear it rolls off around 10khz. Is that normal for a center channel? I'm surround-sound-clueless.

Thanks,

ps - I'll use the measurement mic / setup routing once the rear speakers are in.

Hi all! I feel like I'm getting lost in the sauce. I'm looking into getting a new AVR & subwoofer and I'm struggling with knowing what I need to get. I bought some 340SE2's on a whim for L/R recently to try and peace meal a new setup.

Currently I have

  • Yamaha RX-V385
  • Yamaha 10in Subwoofer

Now I know that anything will be better, but I'm looking for the best value here. I'm looking to do a 5.1.2 setup eventually but am fine with 5.1 for now.

My use case is

  • 4K Movie watching
  • Lots of youtube (like having things on throughout the day)
  • 4k 120hz gaming
  • Light music listening

I also have a medium sized room currently with vaulted ceilings, but its renting so always subject to change.

I've seen varying opinions about different AVR's, subwoofers and am looking at the following

  • AVR
    • Denon S760H, Denon X1700H, Denon X2800H
  • Subs
    • Rhythmik FVX12, SVS PB-2000 Pro, HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP

I'll also be adding an additional 340SE2 as a center.

So just looking for a bit of direction/validation on my options. Thank you in advance!
