Picking up a set of Polk in-wall speakers. They have paintable grills, however I can’t get my wall paint color (from Sherwin Williams) in spray paint.

I do have a paint spray gun, will that work if I put a bit of my leftover paint into the spray gun and paint the speaker grills with the paint sprayer?

TIA

I have 2 older Onkyo receivers(2010) one in the living room and one in the basement.

If I got 2 amazon echo (4th gen) and used the 3.5mm line out and connected one to each avr could I play music up and down stairs in sync wirelessly with my phone?

Here’s the link for the echo:

Hi, I recently learned about WISA Soundsend and hoping someone can set me in the right direction. My primary use is to listen to music, not for watching movies..

Can I stream music from my iphone to the WISA soundsend without a TV? If I just want to listen to music with the TV off, is it possible to do so?

Can I stream Dolby Atmos Music mixes from my iphone using Apple Music, again without a smart TV?

Is it possible to hook up a turntable to play vinyl records directly to WISA Sounsend, without without a smart TV? Again, just an audio experience.

Thank you!

Hi all,

I'm new to home entertainment, but to my understanding, there is a plethora of AVRs that would work with my planned set-up and I don't know on which basis to make the decision. Input is much appreciatied.

Usage case: movies (blu-ray), streaming (youtube, apple music, spotify, switch/steamdeck gaming

From what I've read, AVRs should: support the number of channels, be able to power the speakers (impedance, watts are secondary) and provide other features (room correction, streaming services, ports).

My 5.1 speaker setup:

center: KEF Q650c

L/R: KEF Q350

Surrounds: KEF Q150

Subwoofer: TBD

Regarding the AVR:

  • There is an almost 0% chance that I'll be adding more speakers/channels. So 5.1, maybe 5.2 is the only thing imagineable currently.

  • The streaming options seems to work for me in all cases (apple air play, spotify, potentially tidal).

  • I'd like to try an eARC setup, although I read it may be fiddly.

  • ALLM and VRR are not necessary for my gaming needs, I think, but potentially nice for the furture.

  • Dolby and DTS standards are pretty much a black box to me.

On that basis, I seem to have a lot of options. My budget is not too tight, but I would like to stay below 1000€, preferrably below 800€.

Option A: Denon AVR-S660H at ~300€ seems to be able to do everything I want, but is not often recommended.

Option B: Denon AVR-S760H at 425€ - like S660H but with 7.2? Or the newer S770H for 550€?

Or move up in the series to

Option C: Denon AVR-X1700H at 450€ or the newer X1800H for 500€?

I've also ready a lot about Marantz NR1711 for 850€. I like that it is a bit slimmer.

As you can see, I'm not really sure on what basis to make the decision. Denon is offering a cash back for the newer models at the moment, so they seem pretty affordable currently.

Thank you so much!

Hi,

I'm looking for a 100 inch TV. Budget around 3500-4500 euro.

I've seen a hisense u7kq for 3500. Would that be a good purchase? I've seen the reviews and it seems like it's Allright. I've been to mediamarkt and seen it live, to me it looked good.

But the person who worked there said its a bad tv and I should consider a samsung 98 inch but it's 8000euro...

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all!

Context: I'm from Europe, living in apartment, setup is in living/dining room around 50m3 with opening to kitchen of 10m3, compromises need to be made (think bookshelf speakers on shelves). TV is Sony KD-55XG9505 (3.5 years old, it won't be upgraded so soon) and use PC, streaming apps and from recently Sony X800M2 for reproduction. Also use FeinTech VAX01202 to connect TV eARC to AVR. In near future I'll be moving to larger apartment and I expect that living room size will be similar in total size (maybe even smaller), but with more freedom to place things in it. I don't mind spending little more if it's really worth it and leaves some doors open for future use, but of course prefer to spend less.

Current audio setup is around 10 years old and consists of Sony STR-DN1030, 2 x Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 and Wharfedale Diamond 9.CS. Original idea was to start speaker by speaker and go to 5.1 but life happened and it stopped at 3.0. I recently got the bug and decided to upgrade, starting with adding sub and replacing AVR. Recently I bought SVS SB 1000 Pro (found good offer, still need to connect it, probably after festivities end) with idea to add another one in near future. So now I'm looking at AVRs, basically I'm between Denon X1700H and X3700H (or X3800H if I find good offer), leaning towards X1700H and buying UMIK-1 so I can play with REW in order to get better overall results. X3700H benefits that I can think of for my case would be better room correction and better dual subwoofer handling since X1700H doesn't have independent subwoofer outs. On other hand, SVS Pro has its own EQ, so playing with REW should help once/if I get additional sub (even if I don't get it). Additionally, down the line I would like to add surround speakers, maybe even Atmos, but not to get ahead of myself.

So, am I correct in leaning towards X1700H and UMIK-1 or I'm missing something obvious? And if get idea to have 4 Atmos speakers or something similar only then buy better AVR?

Also, if I wanted to replace Wharfedales I have, what would be good bookshelf option? Something that brings improvement but doesn't break the bank. For example, I see that KEF Q150 are mentioned relatively often, but I have feeling I wouldn't be "better" with them, correct me if I'm wrong. Asking so I can see what are my options, add something on current speaker setup or invest in something better when I can.

Any thoughts/comments are welcome.

I had a 43” Samsung and as all of my previous Samsung TVs, it faulted. I’m mainly watching shows and couch gaming via PS5 and a 7.5 metres/25ft long hdmi cable connected to the PC.

I would like to get a 65” TV for my room (ppl said it might be too big but 43” feels tiny after we’ve gotten a 65” one in the livingroom, and also I’ll be sat 2.5 metres away from the TV).

The cheapest Sony model (KD-65X75WLAEP) here only has 60Hz refresh rate, and the next step up model (KD-65X85LAEP) is around 500$ more expensive and has 120Hz - however, I’ve heard it has some issues with gaming (heard stuff about old, bad processor and blurry 120Hz and some features like hdr or dolby, I’m not sure what, are not functional during 120Hz, idk).

So then I saw something that looks very cost effective, has a tonf of gaming features and sounds too good to be real (almost); a TCL 65" 4K UHD QLED Mini LED 65C835.

I’ve never bought those, in my country they are really not quite known, and I’ve read a few mixed reviews here. Some ppl said it’s terrific, others said it’s a mixed bag.

So, would a 65” TV be okay for a bedroom for couch gaming, and does this TCL model sound ok?

Thanks in advance

Looking to get speakers shandy for my Dali Oberon 1 speaker placed as rear speakers part of a 5.1 surround sound. However Dali seems to recommend a 60 cm tall stand, but that would put it right behind the sofa.

Would it make sense to get a 70 cm tall speaker stand so the speakers are at least taller than the back of the sofa?

I finally convinced the wife to let me upgrade our AV setup. But this is what I have to Frankenstein together now:

New: LG C3 77" TV

Old:

  1. PS5
  2. Yamaha YHT-397 receiver
  3. Speakers: Pioneer SP-FS52 x 2, SP-C22
  4. Google TV (non 4k version)

I will upgrade the receiver in the next year or so, but stuck with this 10+ year old one for now. Using a 2.1 because of rugrats. I'll upgrade those to 7.1/2 along with the receiver hopefully.

My plan is to get Ethernet cables to the PS and TV, and the PS connected directly to the TV. Our consumption is from entirely over the internet, and the plan is to use LG webos > PS > Google TV depending on app availability (ex. I would need to use Google TV for F1TV).

The open question is how to connect the receiver audio to the TV. I had been using ARC without any trouble before, but wondering if an optical would be better now.

Any other thoughts or inputs would be appreciated!

What's my best bet - LG 65" C3 OLED or LG 75" QNED86 Mini LED?

Average size OLED or big size Mini LED... both are essentially the same price - $2700AUD

I'm currently 2.4m away from our TV unit. Looking at the recommended distances for each, it looks like both will suit the room...

65" - Min distance = 1.98m, Max distance = 2.64

75" - Min distance = 2.29m, Max distance = 3.05m

Extra context:

I don't see myself living in many homes in the future that are much bigger. Currently have a basic Samsung 55" 4K UHD TV. The current TV is next to a clear sliding door (never really noticed any glare issues), hard to say if that will be an issue in the future (are OLEDs that bad with glare?).

Thanks in advance!!

Red or green?

Recently upgraded TV and looking for advice on the optimal way to configure the following setup.

  • Onkyo TX-SR578 A/V receiver
  • Samsung QLED 4K TV (Q70C)
  • PS5
  • Cable TV box (outputs 2K video so far as I can tell)
  • Standard smart bluray/DVD player

The AV receiver supports ARC and is all HDMI1.4 so far as I can tell.

The TV has 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs and supports eARC.

So far as I can tell, my options are:

  1. To run everything into the AV receiver as I currently do, and push the video signal out to the TV. I’m doing this currently with the pass through option set on the A/V receiver, but I’m assuming this will still limit the video signal to 1080p, so not ideal.

  2. Run everything into the TV, use the eARC/ARC option to send audio back to the A/V receiver. Preferred option but I’m not sure how the ARC/HDMI1.4 on the receiver side affects the incoming audio stream?

  3. same as option 2 but run the audio through the optical cable instead.

Any advice or other suggestions?

Hi audiophiles

I plan to slowly build my 5.2.2 setup which I will stay with for decades. I will be mostly listening to music on 2.0 or 2.2 and less frequently movies on 5.2.2 setup.

So, I plan to invest in the best stereo pair I can get for music, and some budget center and surround speakers as I’m not planning to use them very often.

I aim for Kef r11 meta as the front 2 stereo, and maybe focal theva or chora line for center and surround.

Will this work? I already have the Marantz 70s AVR. Another separate power amp for my kefs and marantz will be used for the surrounds should do the job?

Hello HT. I have a Pioneer VSX-329 receiver that I'm using through HDMI ARC from my TV. When the TV is turned off, it goes into "muting" mode, but I want it to completely power off and on when the TV is on, without using its remote.

I have a solution to achieve this through home automation (Home Assistant). I can monitor my TV's state and control the receiver's power source. If I cut the receiver's power while it's on, it goes into the ON state when the power is restored and into the OFF state if it was off before. I hear relay sounds during this operation, similar to using the remote button to turn it off/on. This gives me the impression that it's safe. What do you think?

This solution would cost around $10. If there is a better way to accomplish this, I would appreciate your suggestions.

I've been looking at getting a UST projector for a while now, but am on the fence between it or a Mini-LED TV.

Viewing distance isn't an issue, currently I've got a 65" cheap Samsung TV and have my couch set up about 6' away from it, I could move to get the proper viewing angles of either setup.

My biggest question is: will the size of the 120" UST make a bigger difference than the increased contrast and brightness of an 85" Mini-LED?

There's also about a $1500 difference between the two.
