I currently have 3.0 Sony core setup with SSCS8, Denon S750H. Sit around 7-8 fr from TV/speakers. No reflections or anything like that and the center is aimed to ear level. Also bumped up center by 4dB.

However, I still have dialogue issues, to the point where it seems I have to go -10 to -5 for certain films (interstellar was impossible to hear during some parts unless I cranked it).

I’ve done Audyssey calibration, but would the MultiEQ have any benefit in this situation? Do I need to upgrade my receiver since there isn’t any dialogue enhancement on it? Upgrading the center seems like a non option right now unless there is a substitute to match the L/R Sony cores. They seemed to perform very well to my ears.

I am trying to make a small bedroom setup. I got a hell of a deal on a Denon AVR-S960H which is way overkill for what I need but I couldn’t beat the price. So far only have Paradigm Atom SE bookshelf speakers for it. Plan on getting a Paradigm SE 2000C center channel. What would make good rear and height speakers to pair? Have to be smaller than bookshelves due to space limitations. Also open to small sub suggestions though I don’t feel I necessarily need it. TIA

Is there a solution for projecting no light for deep blacks, or are all projectors LED/LCD based and thus necessarily projecting light into blacks? If this is not possible, can someone explain why, perhaps with a diagram? Thanks!

Hi,

What are your thoughts on using wago to connect speaker cable? Mainly about sound quality. I don't seem to be able to distinguish a difference with and without but I'd like a second opinion.

A lot of people come with the idea but I can't find a forum/blog post about the potential quality loss, as there is no direct connection between the two sides of the speaker cable.

I'm talking about theses:

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm in the process of wiring an atmos setup in my living room and came accross a question. I will have a 5.1.2 capable AV receiver (not the budget right now for a real 7.1.4) for 11 speakers: Front L/R, Center, Surround L/R,Surround back L/R, Front presence L/R and back presence L/R.

I have a choice: either don't use all the speakers and keep a 5.1.2 setup, or daisy chain the surround and presence speaker like on the following drawing:

All the speakers are 6 ohms. So the impedance of each line would be 12 ohms. My amplifier is supposed to have either 6 or 8 ohms speakers. Would there be an issue doing this? What about sound quality?

What are your thoughts on this? Should I keep a 5.1.2 system or can I try the daisy chain solution?

Thanks a lot and happy new year!

Hi all,

I'm new to home theatre systems(never owned one before) and not to familiar with the whole wattage/volts/amps frequency, RMS, and frequency, and ohms lingo that are provded in the manuals. I recently bought the following speakers and AVR reciever as they were on sale and wanted to know if the Denon x1700h AVR reciever is compatible with the following klipsch speakers:

Centre - 504Cii Fronts- 8000FBii Rears- 600Mii Subwoofer : RP-1200SW

So far they've seen to be working in good order , often times get a circuit breaker trip -possibly due to many things connected in one circuit (question for a different day)- but wanted to know if my AVR is compatible with these speakers and subwoofer with respect to the power that is needed to drive them .

I don't want there to be a fire or something lollll or possibly speakers breaking. Also , I noticed that the subwoofer has peak power of 800 watts and 400rms , but my AVR can't output that much I believe. The AVR manual said it's 145 watts per channel. Very confused whether my speakers along with subwoofer are comptatible with this AVR. Denon AVR Manual:

504cii spec sheet:

8000fbii spec sheet

600mii spec sheet

Subwoofer spec sheet:

RP-1200SW | Klipsch

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my concerns. Again, I'm a noob so apologies if something didn't make sense in the question.

Hello! I've finally pursued my goal of setting up a dedicated theater in my basement. It's completely light controlled with black walls, curtains, 1.4 gain silver ticket screen 100" screen in white, 9' viewing distance, and BenQ HT3560 projector.

I've been having this issue where it's almost blindingly bright. Whenever there is anything close to white or pure white, such as subtitles, it stings my eyes. I've also noticed my eyes getting dry very quickly, squinting more, and getting headaches.

I've tried turning it on Eco mode and messing with the various settings, but it seems to only partially work. Also the image doesn't really pop when Eco mode is on compared to when it's off. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thank you for any help!

Hey guys, I bought a new Denon X2800 a couple months ago and have it connected to a Panasonic plasma TV and a BenQ W1070 projector. The HDMI inputs are an Xfinity cable box and a Sony Blu-Ray player. I’ve noticed that when everything is turned off, like first thing in the morning, and I turn on the TV (receiver off), the TV will flash a black screen every few seconds for about 30 seconds, and then the picture appears and everything works normally. If I then turn on the receiver, the picture will disappear and it starts with the black screen flashes again, and about 30 seconds later the picture will appear and the audio will start. To me, this sounds like an HDMI handshake issue. I bought a new UGreen HDMI 2.1 certified cable connected from the receiver to the TV hoping this would solve the issue. It did not. Any ideas? Thanks

I just finished a new room and want a decent audio setup for the TV.

I have a pair of Klipsch floor standing speakers and I'd like to use them. Normally I would just add a home theater receiver but the TV stand I purchased has a built in fireplace and does not have slots large enough for the receiver. My other concern about using a receiver is the HDMI doesn't support 120hz or greater (from the ones I've looked up). Id rather run my Xbox and fire TV directly to the TV, and use optical output for audio.

I suppose if I had a receiver that had optical audio input, if it was low profile, I could use that and my speakers.

Or should I just give up on the Klipsch floor standing speakers and just get a sound bar.

I'm brand new to sound systems and wanted to run a basic 3.0 setup by you guys before I pull the trigger. It's for a very small 10ft x 10ft room with a projector, and the whole setup needs to protrude less than ~10 inches from the wall (no sub because apartment).

Right now I have an HDMI between my PC and the projector. My plan is to hook up a center and bookshelf speakers to an entry-level AVR, then use either Bluetooth or Chromecast play audio wirelessly from my PC. I guess my main questions are: Is it a huge mistake to try for wireless audio input (and is Bluetooth vs Wifi/Chromecast a noticeable difference in quality)? And what am I losing out on by not passing HDMI in/out through the AVR? (I imagine one issue will be audio delay, as my projector has a pretty hefty ~50ms lag. Do most AVRs have the ability to set audio delay? I'm eyeing either a Yamaha RX-V385 or Denon AVR-S570BT)

I wouldn't at all consider myself and audiophile, and my basis for comparison are the built-in speakers on my projector...so the temptation to just go with the simplicity of a Sonos sound bar + L/R is real, especially since most AVRs seem to be at least 13in in depth and so would push my space limitations. But I figured I should give an honest try at a proper sound system.

Thanks in advance for some patience with a complete newbie.

Just starting my journey with speaker and receiver researching using this subreddit. Looking for recommended speaker and receiver setups with probably a $2-3k budget in mind.

I’ve always had sound bars with subwoofers paired with low budget TVs, but decided to upgrade to an OLED tv and would like a nice speaker setup to pair with it.

Room setup is not ideal, it is in a family room that has 20’ long sidewalls and 12’ wide front and back walls. Ceiling height is 8’ in this room. There are windows (blinds and curtains) and an exterior door on the left sidewall and an open stairwell entrance to the kitchen and upper / lower floors at the right sidewall center. No man cave for me, it’s more of a multi use room aka a family room.

The couch is tucked back against the back wall and the adjacent sidewalls in a U shape. The tv is 16 feet from the couch due to the entrances on both sidewalls. Tv is flush mounted 28 inches (bottom of the the tv) above the finished floor and has space on either side for L R towers, a middle channel on a tv stand.

5.x.2 is most likely my ideal setup as I have no room for 2 additional rear speakers with atmos behind the couch. I can have someone install ceiling speakers (5.x.4) which will be more ideal for a true atmos setup, but not sure if that’s necessary. But I’m thinking purchasing a receiver with that upgrade in the future in mind.

The usage here will be 67% tv and movies, 25% sports and 8% video games. (I game mostly on a 27” monitor in another room, but occasionally use moonlight to stream my pc or setup my Xbox series X/Nintendo switch in the family room when people come over.

I have no issue running wires under the floor as needed to speakers, wall and ceiling fishing wires I may leave to a professional as I’d like to minimize drywall work.

Any insight on the speakers and receiver I should use for this tv for tv and movies and 4k 120fps gaming use would be greatly appreciated.

So i bought a Onkyo 6100 because my old 626 had no ATMOS and DTS:X and seriosly became so unstable and just went Silent few days before the new Onkyo arrived as Prices went finally down :D. Everything is perfect, biggest fear was the new measuring system but Results are really better then on Odyssey. Only BT sucks big time since last Update. The Transmitter Option suddenly is grayed out and unavailibe and the Receiver lags like Hell. And after reading the small text: Why give the Transmitter APTX but not the Receiver ? I fell in love to Bluetooth after APTX as it´s extreme low on Lag and any less Cablechaos is a Blessing for me :D Connecting my PC to a Marshall Acton has like Zero Latency. Do i Seriosly have to by a external Receiver...
