Hooking up to Paradigm Premier 800F speakers. LCR

Will be using for Movies/shows, music and PS5

I was told that the marantz has a better “sound signature” - not sure how true this is, would like some feedback from people that have experience.

Also is this true?:

X4800H - doesn’t have Dirac (need to upgrade)

C40- comes with Dirac (no extra purchase necessary)

Hi guys,

Happy new year everyone !!!

I recently bought a BenQ W1090 (TH1070 in the US) projector for a good price, and plan to pair it with an Apple TV (for screen mirroring and AirPlay mostly.) The image is great but the speaker is nothing less than terrible. I am on an extremely low budget, I cannot afford to save more (nor do I want to, I am ready to have a "normal/subpar" sound experience). I would be OK with the sound of a regular TV, just so you know how low my expectations are.

Set-up : small bedroom ~13sq.meters, throw distance ~3m

Budget : ~150€

My only condition is : I don’t want to pull a wire across the room.

I thought about 2 solutions for that price.

1 : going for a pair of used Ikea Symphonisk bookshelf speakers in Stereo mode (should be better than 2 HomePods Mini) which would cost ~140-170€

OR

2 : buying a Bluetooth audio receiver (Logitech has a 35€ model) and a pair of 2.0 active bookshelf speakers for around 120€.

What would you advise me to do ? I suppose that the second solution would give me more room for later improvement, or allow me to choose better sounding speakers. If that’s the case, do you have any reference in mind ? I would mostly use it for movies and animes, maybe some YouTube videos. I do not need rumbling bass or anything too special (nor do I expect to have it in the first place at that price point). I just want a balanced sound. I am located in France.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade my current 5.1 setup from what I currently have. I basically have my first home theater starter setup with a couple pieces replaced here and there.

I listen to a combination of movies and PS5 gaming and I'm looking to budget up to $1,500 (USD) for an upgrade. I appreciate any input!

Current setup: Yamaha RX-V4A Receiver FL/FR: Polk Monitor 60 Series II C: Polk CS1 SR/SL: Polk Monitor XT15 Sub: Dayton SUB-1200

Looking to get some RP 500sa II to use as height channels above my rp 800f II.

My question is will this effectively take up channels on my 7.2 denon avr 1700h?

I'm new to this so forgive my ignorance, but I believe that since it's not plugged directed into the avr, but instead plugged into the back height ports of the rp 800f II, that it wouldn't take up channels.

I've tried looking researching the answer on forums/Reddit but haven't found a solid response.

Thanks for your input fellow theater friends!

I want to upgrade my 43" LCD to a 65" OLED (thinking A95L). Unfortunately, the only good spot for the TV in my living room is in front of the only windows in that room.

My solution is to put the TV on a stand with wheels so that I can move it in front of the windows when I want to watch TV and then move it off to the side when not in the use. I would be moving it no more than five feet and rotating it 90 degrees, and I would do this at most four nights per week.

However, I am worried about damage to the TV from it wobbling or jittering slightly as I roll it. My floor is wood that's no longer smooth. (Some slightly cracked or dented planks that the landlord won't repair.) Is there any risk of an OLED TV getting damage from just being rolled around? I've heard they are very delicate.

Here's the stand I'm considering if it helps: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BDQXJR7M

I’m not talking about receivers. I just wish there was a preamp/processor that had a single digit channel count (5-7). I will never go over that many speakers and I hate paying for all the extra channels I will never use.

And if not, do they sell mid towers/centers that don’t include woofers?

Also related, what are the repercussions of driving a 150 watt full range speaker with a 75 watt channel that is cut off at 80 Hz? Am I actually overpowering the mids/highs of the speaker (to the point where they could be blown)?

Thank you.

I got a few Play:1 speakers off marketplace for music around the home. got trigger happy and picked up a subwoofer too (mini)

Now, I’ve kinda already locked myself in here. ready to pick up a soundbar to complete a surround setup, though my entire life I’ve understood that sound bars are a terrible way to go.

Thoughts?

It’ll only cost $500 for a refurbished Sonos arc, which would then in theory give atmos, with 2 rear speakers and a sub. I absolutely love this ecosystem for music, so this is an easy choice for me.

Would I be able to beat this setup with another $500? I don’t have a receiver nor do I really want one. I saw a whole Klipsch setup for pretty cheap, that was also a soundbar though as well.

I'm looking to buy kind of my first audio system, I was looking at the ELAC DBR62's as L/R that are in my budget but it seems the matching center the UCR52 may not be all that great. So I was looking at getting the KEF 650C center as something I can use for a while and build around in the future, but am unsure if having that center the the ELACs is a bad move?

We’re looking at getting an LG C3 65” OLED, however need to mount it quite high on the wall (Bonus room) so our toddler doesn’t touch it along with the receiver etc…

Looking for suggestions for a floating cabinet or something to keep the receiver, playstation in. My wife wants the devices next to the TV.. I feel like that would look like shit though… suggestions? Thanks all :)

Just curious if anyone's heard any info on the subject. 40gbps is not enough for 4k144hz 10bit.

Hi everyone,

I have a samsung 85 Q60B TV and an Onkyo TX-SR805. Everything has been working great for months. When I hit the power button on the samsung remote both the TV and Receiver turn on and off. Sound comes through the speakers hooked up to the receiver great. The Samsung remote controls volume up/down/mute. When I changed the volume, the TV displayed a little icon for the receiver and a + or -.

Then a few days ago, I went into the receiver settings and changed the default volume from -20 db to -30 db, and I'm almost certain I didn't change anything else. Well, now the samsung remote won't control volume but everything else still works like it used to. When I hit volume up/down the TV displays a little icon for the receiver, but no + or - and the volume doesn't change. If I use the receiver remote, this icon along with the +/- DOES display on the tv!

I have tried changing/resetting all the option in both the TV and receiver that I can think of and can't fix this. I'm hoping someone here may have a suggestion. I just want to be able to use the single samsung remote for everything like I used to.

So I just set up a 3.0 system and I wanted to confirm that I got the speaker polarity correct. I read that I can do so by checking with a multimeter that the voltage at the terminals is positive. I got a negative reading, so I double checked the wiring and I'm 100% sure that they're attached correctly on both ends. They do seem to sound worse if I reverse them so I think the polarity is correct and I screwed up the test somehow, but I'm not totally sure. Any suggestions?

*EXPLICITLY* for the purpose of finding the right volume level on my subwoofer, I would like to adjust its volume *INDEPENDENTLY* of *ALL* other devices.

Right now I can only do that by turning the knob on my subwoofer

But -- DOES A DEVICE EXIST ON THE CHEAP -- that I can simply insert inline into the RCA cable that lets me remotely control it's volume. More or less, a 1-input, 1-output, 1-RCA "receiver" with a remote. I'd imagine it could be produced for under $10.

But has anyone been crazy enough to make something like this, on the cheap?

For $3 i see what i want on aliexpress, but without a remote control (which would probably require power to receive the signal from?):

So few reviews and even fewer with actual measurements and comparisons. Anybody heard both? Would love some feedback. I know Erin (Erinsaudiocorner) reviewed and was not a fan of the Focal 1000 series, but his big complaint was the result of the built-in back box, which the 300s don’t seem to have. I would be using 3 for the front stage in a basement multipurpose space but with the center channel sideways below the TV. Focals seem easier to drive and are available cheaper (especially if I spring for the meta version of the Kefs). Also curious if I’d be better off with just getting a matching regular center speaker and sitting it on the console for the time being to avoid having to alter the studs in the wall (non load-bearing but still a mild pain with the sideways orientation). Don’t want this to turn into a huge project but rather a quick but substantial upgrade from the stereo in-walls already there that I’m going to repurpose into surrounds.

I'm in Ireland and have a Kef subwoofer that works perfectly but seen better days. Its about 15 years old and is oval shaped in a silver colour.

I was considering sanding it down and painting it to bring some new life to it?

What would be the best way to do this? Could I use any standard multi surface paint or does it have to be "speaker paint"?

Hi all. Question about the above amp and its advertised power rating.

I have some hifi speakers that people claim are “notoriously hard to drive” and need “lots of high quality clean power”. I’m currently using these with a 105wpc Arcam stereo amp.

Assuming the denon can deliver 125wpc at 8ohm to L and R (as denons spec doc states), does this mean I’ll have no problem driving my existing speakers (or is there more to the question of power than simple watts per channel/avr vs dedicated amp etc)?

I just need to be able to control a TV and the volume on an AVR from one remote.

My parents just got a new Samsung Smart TV (don't know model), which came with a BN59 Samsung Smart Remote. The TV has an optical cable running to a Yamaha RX-V465, then to our speakers. The volume is controlled by the dial on the AVR or the ancient remote the AVR came with.

We'd like to set up this Samsung Smart Remote to control the volume of the AVR if possible. If not, we are open to getting a different smart remote. Any suggestions? We'd prefer remotes with simple controls and layouts. Their previous remote was a Logitech Harmony Touch N-R0006 which everyone hated.

They've had this AVR and speaker system for over 10 years and it was insanely over-engineered and unorganized. Just today I streamlined it down to the diagram below but I'm still super unfamiliar with this hardware so I could use the help!

I have a 2.1 system. Two small bookshelf speakers (used to be my surround sound speakers) klipsch with a 3in woofer and tweeter. The sub is a powered 8 inch infinity. My avr is dennon x1700h.

Understood that my speakers are small and that my sub is going to have to carry some of the frequencies that normally would be handled by the bookshelf speakers.

What would your recommendation be for the crossover frequency for both the sub and speakers? I've tried the microphone/ audissy setup and was not impressed with the overall sound. I've manually adjusted everything to where I think it sounds pretty good, but want to make sure I've got the crossover correct.

Please note, I am not looking to upgrade or add more speakers at this time. House is small already and it looks clean without big speakers.

Thanks for the help.
