Setting up a 3 TV home theater setup. 1 soundbar.

Would like to have 3 sources…apple tv, roku, and ps4.

Ability to play any source on any of the 3 TVs.

Ability to have any source then play audio through soundbar.

Soundbar not purchased yet so flexible here.

Any suggestions on what I need in regards to hdmi switch?

Thanks!!!

Hello, I recently started a little blu ray collection and every now and again run into people selling 3D movies. I'd honestly love to watch some of them, but have discovered, as I'm sure many of you know already, that 3D is dead technology for TVs

I was wondering if people had good suggestions for passive 3D in the form of an old TV / Monitor model. Any size (alright above like 20 inches) is fine. Just figured I'd dip into the knowledge pool of people in the hobby as I continue my own research. Ideally would like affordable options, but really open to hearing about any.

Thank you for any suggestions, I can loop back here and edit the post if I find things

(Sorry projector lovers, I just dont love the price, quality, setup hassle, heat + sound generation, etc of projectors, so I'm not concerned with finding them. If you have a projector that somehow subverts all of that, feel free to post about it)

Hello! My SVS PB12 NSD, which is around 8 years old, has been functioning without any issues until recently, about a month ago. Even though the green light indicates it's on, the bass output is significantly weak. I can detect a faint bass presence by touching the unit, but it's roughly only 10% of its expected strength. I've tried adjusting every setting possible (including the limiter, phase, low pass, and gain), switched out all the cables, and even replaced my amplifier, but nothing has resolved the issue. When I temporarily replaced this subwoofer with my secondary one, a Monolith, the problem seemed to be isolated to the SVS, as the Monolith performed flawlessly using the same cables and amplifier settings. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a moderate skill level in handling electronic repairs, so I'm willing to open up the unit if that might help. Thanks!

My TV set up is in my basement (unfinished). I unfortunately share the basement with the hot water tank, the HVAC system and laundry/dryer which when turned on are quite loud.

I have started building a frame around that area of the basement, and will fill the walls with Rockwool Safe n Sound so that should limit the noise. My issue is the door - I just have a hollow door. Is there anything I can put to the back of it? Aesthetics is not a huge concern.

I have a decent amount of 24-bit flac files on my PC. I would like to be able to cast them to the CCA from my phone. I suspect I will need to run a server of some type. Logitech Media Server (LMS) seems like a good choice.

I could run this on a raspberry pi 3+ or maybe in a docker container on my PC.

Then what app would I use on my phone to access and cast the files?

Or is there a better solution? I've searched quite a bit and it doesn't seem like there is one best way to do this. And if there is a better subreddit or site to post this question I am all ears. Thanks.

Hello friends. I have been researching OLED and Mini LED televisions for a long time, but there are still things I cannot understand. I didn't want to choose OLED due to the risk of burning, but i saw that LG is good in this regard and that it does not cause burning anymore and that its support is good in case of burning. I'm waiting for your OLED television suggestions in the LG section. If you still think there may be a problem, then I have 2 Mini LED televisions in mind. Is one of them TCL 55C835 ($1260) and the other one TCL 65C935 ($2050) worth the price difference? Which one should I choose? (The features I look for in the OLED section are HDMI 2.1, 120Hz, VRR, FreeSync, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 10 bit color depth)

Hey Everyone bought a 65 G3 back on black friday only got around to putting her up last week. Currently looking for audio options just need more punch for the moment as currently renovating and have got it temporarily mounted up for a few months. My question is what to go? Am new to all of this not sure where to start really Bit tight on space and have a pitched ceiling/small room for the time being. I could go a 5.1 which is on the cards or a 3.1? Hell even a soundbar although that seems to be against the gospel of r/hometheater. My two options in my head right now are buy something temporary that I can later move to my bedroom tv or buy something that is upgradable. Looking for all and any opinions that don’t break the bank as we speak. If there any also any aussies here that also know where is good and where to buy would be greatly appreciated just need more punch.

I received Seinnheiser RS 175 headphones as a gift this Christmas, and I’m trying to figure out how to best use them. I have a 5.1 system with a Denon 1800h receiver, Sony X90L tv. My 3 input devices are Apple TV 4K, Panasonic UB820 Blu-ray and a nvidia shield. The headphones have a base station that takes either a 3.5mm headphone cable or optical audio. Unfortunately the Denon doesn’t have optical audio out. Options I’ve looked into are an HDMI audio extractor, optical audio switch. Suggestions?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! A few weeks back I asked for help and this great community helped me and here is the result. So a big thanks to those who helped out !!!

I then went about working out how to best assemble it and make it all weatherproof as it never stops raining at Xmas lol The end result was a big success but only suitable for cold evenings and light rain showers and not to be left outside. BUT I did 100% succeed in making an occasional waterproof gaming projector for Nintendo Switch with 3.1 ish surround wireless sound. And of course it rained lol, but we still played on and not a single leak after 3 hrs :-D

In the hope of helping others, this is what I did and how much it cost...

Components:

  • 1 x used Epson EH-TW6000
  • Price : £100-150
  • 1x used Nintendo Switch
  • Price : £100
  • 1 x Mario Kart switch
  • Price: £15 unboxed
  • 2 x 1m usb cables
  • Price : included
  • 1 x Ezcoo audio splitter extractor
  • Price : £20
  • 1x Avantree Relay Bluetooth 5.3 Adapter
  • Price: £20
  • 2 x Sony SRS-XB100 wireless waterproof daisy chain speakers
  • Price : £35
  • 1x x-large wet box for electrics
  • Price: £20
  • 1 x 10m waterproof extension cable.
  • Price : £20
  • 1 x anti surge multi-plug
  • Price : £5

Total: £420 / $534.74

https://external-preview.redd.it/how-i-made-a-portable-weather-proof-gaming-projector-on-a-v0-LUH-urVamVXYIV409YdBAgPyyuc_cju8sH2HJXOm9iI.jpg?auto=webp&s=790b6a795a5cc5b5787d13e50fbe0df2c7009a19

Assembly:

  • I took the extra large wet box and put it on its side and I cut a hole in the lid for the projector lens.
  • I then put a plastic tube in the hole with a silicon seal. The light could escape but it stopped most rain (all rain in my case).
  • I set the projector as deep as I could in the box away from the hole.
  • The latter is the only weakness in the design but even in blowing rain no water came into the box. So ideal for light showers but not suitable to be left outside In all weather due to damp.
  • I added the switch to the wet box with a game. Install digital games for more games.
  • I ran the projectors and switches power cables to a power surge multi socket in the box.
  • I made sure the projector had switch ventilation for the projector heat on the underside of the wet box using the boxes existing weather proof vents.
  • I ran the multi socket plug to the waterproof socket in the box.
  • I ran the 10m waterproof cable from the wet box via the wet proof hole to an outside waterproof wall socket.
  • I ran the switch hdmi cable to the audio extractor. I set it up for 1080p.
  • I ran another 1 m hdmi cable to the projector.
  • I plugged a 3.5mm bluetooth dongle into the headphone jack.
  • I paired the speakers and then paired to the dongle. I turned the projector speakers up to 25. You can add an optional mini sub woofer for base via optical out if you have room.
  • I placed the speakers on either side of the white outside wall.
  • Projected onto a white garage wall.

Time to Setup:

This all took about 10 mins to set up and once set up didn't need setting up again. The keystone as very useful to save time moving it all about. Though I did put it all on a portable trolly which I could unpack and wheel about to speed up alignment.

Portable:

Tech this isnt portable though for a projector it is as it can be moved around and taken anywhere but for true portabilty just add a Portable Outlet to the wet box. For £50 -100 you can pick one up which will give you 3hrs plus play (thought ive yet to test this).

Sound:

I chose the Sony speakers as they're the cheapest true stereo speakers you can buy which daisy link and are waterproof / dustproof. So ideal for outside. And they do give an amazing stereo effect.

They're not that loud but fine for a 100 inch / 8 - 10 ft set up. The speakers were placed 10ft apart without issue and lasted over 3hrs. The bluetooth was about 15ft-20ft away and had no issues.

With the added projector speakers behind you and a possible sub woofer the overall effect for outside was very similar to surround sound to the point I could not hear the difference.

Light Wind and rain didn't effect play.

Switch joy cons:

The switch is junk ancient tech and it's own Bluetooth limitations means joy cons need to be fairly near especially on mp. It can't do a Bluetooth speaker and 2 player joy cons. And even struggled with 3 player joy cons at more than 5m.

Light Wind and rain did effect distance and lag.

The projector:

The Epson EH-TW60001080p ws ideal for crappy old non 4k switch. And suitable for a large white 100 inch wide wall outside. Its 2200 lumens was very bright and vibrant in the dark with no noticeable lag. Max projection of 60inch at 7ft but we had it at about 80-100 inch filling an entire outside wall at a distance of about 20ft 'ish.It looked awesome!

Light Wind and rain had no visible effect.

Notes:

Wind and rain aren't ideal lol. You don't need a wet box or waterproof anything if damp isn't a concern. But the above worked fine in cold slightly wet condition over hours. But the heat of the projector was offset by the temp outside. In warmer conditions I'd recommend a fan in the wet box.

This set up worked perfectly for outside gaming on switch in cold and slightly wet weather and light wind with no negatives.  For a budget under 500£€$ it was well worth it and will be used in winter and summer for gaming and movies. You could save more money using a bluetooth projector and if damp isnt an issue.

So far I've found the Denon S660H & S760H. Are there any other options I'm missing? I know previously there was lag with other recievers released when using earc due to their chipset errors.

I'm looking for a way to get back to uncompressed 5.1 after the new x series cannot take optical any longer.

My receiver is connected to my Sony Bravia A80J and whenever I shut off everything the receiver turns back on like after a minute or so then turns off by itself. It is connected to the eArc port on my TV.

Not a major issue but annoying. Any suggestions on what I should look at to stop this behavior? Thanks.

Title. Moved my old system I had upstairs down to my living room. However, I set up a 3.1 and did not connect the surrounds. This is a Marantz SR4002 AVR.

I think it’s still set for a 5.1 and thus I am missing some audio it’s trying to send to surround channels that aren’t connected. Would it be hard to just go in the AVR and delete the surround channels?

Any help is appreciated!

We''ve had the Vizio 5.1.2 Home Theater Sound System with Dolby Atmos sound bar (Model SB36512-F6) for a few years and my wife and I are generally happy with it, but our ears are getting older, I guess, because dialog seems to be getting harder to distinguish. Please advise best settings for clearest spoken dialog. Thanks and enjoy your new year's day, let's hope 2024 is better than last year.

I was moving my sub the other day and forgot to unplug the subwoofer cable. The tip broke off, but I was fortunately able to get it out of the port. However, I need to continue using the same cable since it's being run through a wall and I'd rather not open up the wall to run another one.

Does anyone know if it's possible to solder the tip back on or do I have to replace the whole connector?

Hello all,

I have a Denon AVR-S970H receiver with a 5.1.2 set up and my 2 atmos speakers are in ceiling speakers. However, when I amp assign the surround back speakers to "surround dolby" I am asked to set the distance between the "Atmos enabled speaker" and the ceiling. I am not using speaker that the bounce the sound off the ceiling. The speakers are IN the ceiling. There is no option for 0 distance from ceiling. The lowest distance setting is 3ft.

Any advice on how to set this up for in celing atmos speakers and NOT upward firing speakers?

Hi, the depth of the basement ceiling joists are about 11.5 inch. Does the insulation should cover the entire 11.5 for sound proofing? It’s a lot of insulation and 💰💰💰. TIA.

It has been 15 years, but it appears that my HSU VTF-2 MK 3 subwoofer has bit the dust. It is no longer able to power on, so I guess I'm on the market again. That sub worked great for me, so I would want something at least of equal quality but would be happy to use this opportunity to upgrade.

I'll be the first to admit that audio is one of my weaknesses. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Are there any brands or specific models people would recommend? Would Hsu still be a top option? I've heard good things about PSA and Rythmik - any opinions? Or any specific ones that would meet the needs of my room?

If it helps, I took some measurements of my living room. It's about 13' wide, 21' long and the ceiling reaches about 12'. But the ceiling actually is kind of a V shape, so it's not like the entire ceiling is 12'. So, by those measurements, I guess my room is about 3276 cubic feet, although because of the ceiling shape it would be less.

I appreciate any help.

Hello! I bought a STR DN-1080 many years ago when I wanted to dip my toes into HT. I never got speakers to go with it because I got distracted by other hobbies. So it's just been driving some Cerwin Vega LS-12s from my college days.

I want to finally utilize this receiver for HT and I am looking for advice on where to start. I am open to spending around $1500 on speakers and could probably push that budget to $2000. At the same time, I don't necessarily want to jump into this all at once as I could upgrade over time. I'm hoping that the system I put together is equally enjoyable for listening to music as my wife and I often like to play something in the background while going about the day.

I've got two setups I was considering (I'm open to others though): x4 Q Acoustics 3010i x1 Q Acoustics 3090Ci x1 Subwoofer TBD

OR

x4 Fluance XL8 x1 Fluance XL8C x1 Subwoofer TBD

The space: Large open concept. 13 ft ceilings. Not ideal I am sure, but I don't need perfection, I just want some more body in my movie watching experience.

Is this a non-question, should I get the X2800H?

The only downside is that the X1800H is from a more trusted locally shop. X2800H is from Amazon.
