Seems impossible to find a processor that just does 5 or 7 channels. Not everyone has the budget, desire, or approving spouse to install a 16- channel setup in their living room. Am I the only one annoyed by this?

I know it’s about dazzling consumers with specs and one-upping the competition. But come on!

Is their away to set the subwoofer to be on or off in the different sound modes? Like the sub does not come on in Multi Stereo but, in Dolby Surround the Subs r on. I don't see anything, other then the crossover and the LFF and Main. Would love to have subs on in Multi Stereo if I could and be able to switch on or off be great too, Thanks!

It seems that when looking at TVs you can get up to 98” for $2500. And after that prices go nuts. I’m sure manufacturers would love to be able to say they have a 100” TV at a reasonable price point for marketing purposes. Is there a hardware or manufacturing reason for this cutoff at 98”?

I'm getting settled in with my new Denon AVR-X3800H with wired ethernet to my network switch. Everything works fine, however, it's only auto-negotiating to my network switch at FE speeds of 100mbps. I've now realized nowhere on the Denon website, manual, or in any Q&A does Denon advise what the speed of its wired ethernet port is on this receiver. Are any of you connecting at speeds greater than 100mbps on wired ethernet? I fully appreciate that 100mbps is likely more than a receiver would ever need given current streaming requirements, but setting aside that point, I'm curious if I need to troubleshoot a bad ethernet cable, a misconfigured port, or a malfunctioning new Denon receiver. Thanks in advance.

My brother has a set up that is about 40 ft away. Much of it is a real hack job. He has cat 5 cable and an hdmi splitter running through ceiling to tv. His tv is showing no signal but sound is coming through the system.

We tried troubleshooting from the Avr to a different tv and it works. Also device in hdmi of tv and that works. Anything plugged into the extender does not work. Which leaves me to believe this is the issue.

He has ordered a new splitter. Is there any other solution if this does not work? He cannot run a cable the ceiling is spray foamed. Assuming he would have to opt for a wireless hdmi? He only uses one device.

Title says it all. I can't seem to find the right configuration on this receiver. I'm finally adding eight MartinLogan Helos12 speakers to my downstairs. I already have a center two towers and 2 subs. I wired the house for 4 in ceiling for the living room, 2 in the kitchen and 2 in the dining room. I already have a proper 7.2.4 upstairs, this is just for good movie watching without setting up the theater stuff and music through the house when hosting.

I already have another marantz mm7025 amp, so I have the extra two channels needed, but none of the modes give me 7.2 +Z2+Z3 pre-amp. What could I be missing?

I am trying to help someone else improve dialogue clarity in their system. Currently they have a 3.0 bookshelf speaker system. Their speakers are generally placed correctly, but unfortunately their living room setup/acoustics is total trash for sound quality. Everything that could be wrong with it is wrong with it in terms of audio friendliness. It would require a huge amount of time and money to solve those problems, so it is likely to remain that way.

Considering the focus is on dialogue clarity and not bass "impact", would it potentially help to add a cheap subwoofer (budget is a major factor), even though it would not be anywhere near as big as required to fill the wide open room with bass? Just so the speakers can be set to Small (instead of Large) to fully focus on the ranges they are made for without muddying the dialogue from trying to also take care of low ends without a subwoofer?

And if it would help, then is there any "minimum" quality to look for in a subwoofer to make sure it does not actually cause MORE problems, outputting bass that in some way interferes with the dialogue clarity?

Anyone received their order for this yet? I'm curious as to how it sounds and if it's truly cable of replacing a low to mid tier AVR. Can you get quality surround sound comparable to DD+ or atmos? How's the quality when playing music?

Hard pressed at the moment between choosing between the LG C3 OLED or the Sony A80L. Essentially in Aus they are on sale LG C3 AU$4743 (USD$3232) and A80L $AU5974 (USD$4071).

From my research I have found that the A80L is better in terms of image processing and motion handling even with the same panel and having Google TV integrated over WebOS would sway me accross to the Sony if they were the same price and would be a no brainer.

I have always like Sony products but I am not sure if I can justify the price difference, considering I already have an nVidia Shield Pro 2019 which I could use with the LG C3.

I have a Google Smart Home set up and feel the Sony would fit in better here, rather than relying on the shield to perform these tasks as I am not sure how LG ThinQ plays in comparison.

If I get the LG C3, I would pair with LG S95QR soundbar. And the Sony I would pair with the HTA5000 and SA-SW3 Sub. Both coming in together at the same price.

I mainly watch 4k/1080p hdr movies and tv series and would be looking to get a PS5 and some point for casual gaming.

Would others reccomend going with LG package with nVidia Shield or the Sony Package?

So there are two speakers on the back walls of the room. One left, one right. Those speakers are samsung PS-RX50. Cables are going through the walls from those speakers to the front of the room, where the TV is supposed to be. Those cables do not have a finished plug; it's just raw metal (copper?). So I am wondering, if I wanted to reuse those two speakers for my TV, what do I need to do? How can I use those cables? Are the speakers worth going through the trouble, or would you just not take advantage of the cables in the wall and buy bluetooth compatible setup instead?

Hi there!

I'm considering getting a Fire TV cube, mainly just because it has extra HDMI input that I can plug my Panasonic Blu-ray Player, using fire tv bluetooth to connect with speakers - or just generally better output on both sound and video.

I'm planning to use with my Epson tw6800 projector (1080p) and wonder if that would be worth it!

Thanks :)

Hi all,

We moved recently to a new house with a huge open basement. We are planning to divide it up in rooms that we can use, and one of the rooms I would like to setup as a home theater/cinema.

My question to you, what would be the minimal size required for a nice home theater room, and how many people would it fit? (Please give dimensions, not just surface area).

Also, is there anything specific that I need to think about before construction begins, other than maybe sufficient comduit for cable?

Im basically done with my first real home theater build, only my surrounds are missing at this point. My setup, thats relevant to my questions, consists of:

  • Epson eh-tw9300
  • Apple tv 4k
  • Yamaha Receiver RX-V4A
  • 2 x 8K HDMI 2.1 48gbps

This may get a bit longer, i try to keep it as short as possible while giving every piece of information that may be needed.

First of all, everything that is installed at this point, basically everything except the surrounds, is working!

The first problem i encountered is that i cant seem to fill out the whole projection area of my screen (100 inch). My projector can throw an image large enough, but when i fill out the wide part of my screen, i still have a few centimeteres at the top and bottom that are not filled out. This would suggest that my screen is not in a 16:9 aspect ratio, but i checked it and it is. I could not find any way to change the aspect ration within the menu of my projector and neither in the apple tv 4k (atleast not that it ISNT giving out an 16:9 image).

How would i even begin fixing this? Did i overlook something in either of the menus? (its a minor problem in my eyes, because many movies are in 21:9 either way, so that isnt a huge problem for me)

The second problem is HDR (or maybe not?). I cant seem to turn HDR on in the apple tv, but i was able to activate a HDR profile in my projectors settings while watching a show with it, i have no idea if its "real" HDR or just an HDR upsacle or however you would call that?

Why is th apple tv giving me no image when i turn HDR on?

That are the problems that i discovered so far.

With that out of the way, how do i properly set my projector up and adjust the picture? Is there any order in which you should take each step and what steps are there to get the best performance out of my gear?

Help is very much appreciated and i wish all of you a happy new year!

Hi there. Quick question: I'm in the UK. I have a 7yr old Denon AVR X 4200 home cinema amp which has, for the second time in 4 years, developed an issue where it switches off to avoid overheating. When it was first repaired it had a relay replaced which fixed the issue (for a while at least).

I'm planning to get it repaired again and sell it to help fund a replacement.

I'm looking at either the Denon AVR X 4800 or the Denon AVR X 6700. The 6700 is discounted to £1449 at the moment.

I currently run a 7.1.4 setup with 2 external hi-fi amps (a Marantz for the l/r and a Denon for the surrounds) for the front l/r channel and the rear surrounds. I like the idea of the 6700 as it would allow me to power all channels with no external amps, but I'm wondering if it would be better to go with the newer 4800 and retain the Marantz to run the front l/r. I have my audiophile CD player directly connected to the Marantz and use that as my main music setup.

I'd value any insights you might have. Thank you.

I am a little confused on how to get started with a home I've moved into that has a setup as follows:

I have a home theater DENON receiver, with Dolby 5.1 running:

  • middle channel, powered sub and front speakers

-rear channel (old Bose speakers that I may replace, wired

. I don't particularly appreciate how it sounds and the acoustics in the room are bad due to its tall cavernous nature. I have used Audyssey to tune it, and I will do so again after I complete my setup.

server

I would like to add an amplifier. I assume I "power the receiver" and then set up, and then the channel from receiver B still powers the additional room speakers I have switched on as usual. I also understand there are sort of multi-room amps that power only those speakers but not the receiver or the A channel.

O

on second thought I only have pre-outs for "1" "zone 2" and "sub". unless this "1" is a preout for all the 5 channels of Zone A I may not be able to use an amp for this receiver for what I want.
