Hi all, I've just got a new xbox series x and have encountered a lot of changes from the previous console.

I want to learn more about whether dolby digital is fake surround or if I need a new av reciever.

My questions are:

  • Is dolby digital 'fake' surround? As in is it just making up the surround channels in comparison to my previous pcm 5.1 setup?
  • Do I need a modern av reciever to get proper uncompressed 5.1 back again? I guess by way of one that would use earc that I could plug the x series straight into.

Full info/setup below:

I have just got the new console. Previously I had the signal path as follows:

Picture: Xbox one x > LG CX via hdmi Audio: Xbox one x > Old Denon amp via optical out

Now my current setup is:

Picture: Xbox x series > LG CX via hdmi Audio: LG CX > to Old denon amp via optical out

Now my audio options on the x series only show uncompressed stereo, dolby digital or dolby atmos. I had to change the setting on the LG CX's Audio to output optical on 'auto' instead of it previously being on PCM to enable any sort of 5.1 setup. My guess is that is because the optical cable isn't feeding Audio directly from the console into the receiver any longer.

The amp does not have e arc. It's a Denon Avr 4306 o rather dated. I've been using the HDMI from console to TV to make use of the proper 4k the TV can output. I new the sound wasn't perfect with the old xbox one setup, but at least I had pcm.

If I do need a new amp which ones are candidates for this? When I read before there were lots of chip problems. Now I'm unsure what's appropriate.

Hello! Ive posted the same thing on the Samsung subreddit to broaden a search for a possible solution

I've been having an interesting issue with my IR Sensor on my TV. It's a Samsung UN70TU6980FXZA. I'm looking to see if there's anything else I can do before just getting a new TV.

Yesterday, the IR sensor all of a sudden went nuts and started blinking rapidly, and the volume indicator on the TV was looking like it was being pressed down constantly. Now, what makes this interesting is that I have another Samsung TV in the same room that I use as a PC monitor...that also started behaving in the same manner at around the same time!

I do know that the remotes for each are able to turn on/off the other monitor, so I've kept them away from each other but, now it seems like the sensors were fighting each other to connect to a remote. Another funny observation is that, whenever I walk right up to the sensor with a remote in hand, the sensor goes back to normal.

So, after trying everything, I was able to eventually get the monitor paired back up with its assigned remote and it's back to normal now, but the UN70 is still acting up. I'm unable to pair either remote to it and, because of what it's doing (and how it's hooked up), it's basically unusable. I have tried literally every known remote reset prompt, power cycle, soft and hard reset methods and still nothing. I've also contacted Samsung support and they said, "I dunno...maybe remote?" Is there anything else that I can do or should I cut my losses and get a new TV?

Thanks for sticking around! TLDR: TV IR sensor may have went poop and have tried everything short of getting a new TV. Looking to see if there's a solution I haven't tried before pulling the trigger

Just bought the Yamaha Ns-p41 and realized I'm lost.

Apparently I need an amp and there seems to be so many things to be mindful of.

Can someone tell me what Amp i have to get, preferably cheap?

My Pioneer SC-X57 is finally too old to satisfy me. (that's what she said)

Looking at an upgrade now. Gonna keep my LG OLED65 E8 for as long as I can, but the next one will have eARC.

I want 4k, Atmos, Dolby Vision, and pre-outs.. basically what every decent AVR offers.

My main speakers are very hard to drive, though, with a min Impedance of 2.8 Ohms!!! That's an absolute requirement.

I only have a 3.1 now, but will add 2 surrounds some time in 24. Might add 2 atmos speakers when we move, maybe also a second sub.

And I don't want to switch AVR again soon. (had mine for 10 years and would keep it if it had 4k DV passthrough..)

Could get a used Denon 4700H for around 1k €

but the 3800H brand new costs less than 1k €

my fave? The Pioneer VSX-LX505 is 800€ brand new, and I love the design and massive power supply that it boasts (fk advertised output power into 2 channels if the PSU can only deliver 300W).

Is there any reason to go with one of the Denons instead? The Pioneer does have more power and a bigger PSU than both the Denon 3800 and 4700H, but no Auro 3D.. feature-wise they appear basically identical aside from Audyssey and Auro 3D.

Being a Yamaha fan, I also looked at the Yamaha RX-V6A, but that one is 700€ new and only offers pre-outs for the fronts. (I could use my Yamaha A-S2100 as a power amp for the fronts, though)

Yamaha's RX-A1080 or A2080 are scarce on the used market. (none available in Switzerland)

my devices to go on the AVR? Shield Pro, Wiim Pro.. uh.. yeah, that's it. 😅

My stereo Hifi system is on my Yamaha A-S2100 and I use an amp switch box for my main speakers.

I frequently have trouble turning on my system with the remote and will take 2-5 tries to get it to turn on. It then works fine after that. I confirmed the batteries are fine

Anyone have this?

Hello, after hours of reading into AVR‘s I finally decided to buy the x1700h which arrived today. Now my question, what is the best way to play my flac music files from my pc through the AVR and connected speakers? Can I just use a normal 3,5mm to cinch cable or is there a better way? Or is the Apple TV 4K 1st gen able to play hi-res over hdmi?

Sorry I have never had a true 2.1 system and I’m trying to build one with an avr.

What I have- Denon 540bt Jbl lsr305 (already have these but they are powered so I’m unsure if they will connect to the avr) Probably buying a speedwoofer 10s

Any weak points? I don’t have any wires or cables, what will I need?

Using mainly for home theater but will also listen to some music.

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my mum's living room, bought the TV a few months ago, now on to choosing a sound system. For some extra context, we're in the UK and she likes to sing quite a bit and currently has a standalone portable speaker that she plugs an XLR mic and aux cable into. The aux cable just come from a laptop from which she plays the backing track of a song and she just uses her phone to record herself.

When choosing a sound system for the TV I wanted something that could also replace the setup she uses for her singing so I initially bought a karaoke soundbar off Amazon that connects to the TV and comes with wireless mics that automatically connect to the soundbar.

On the tin this does exactly the job that's needed but the quality of the mics and the soundbar isn't particularly great, so I was wondering if there's some sort of setup I could put together with a surround sound system that could do the same job.

I was thinking of a wireless mic that goes into a mixer alongside the audio from the TV, all of which feeds into the sound system. But I don't know how convoluted such a system would be and how much the TV audio quality would drop by being passed from the Chromecast through the TV through the mixer through the receiver.

This is a minor annoyance but when I am watching things on the TV the sound doesn't change from (for e.g.) 'Stereo' in menus to 'DD+' when I play the video.

On my Shield it works correctly stereo in the menu and changes to the correct format when I start the video but its only on the TV apps where I have to choose the sound manually via the remote. Which implies that the sound is not decoding correctly from the native apps.

There is one HDMI from the receiver to the TV and everything else is connected to the TV.

I have a Sony X95L TV. Passthrough is enabled in the menu and 'Auto 1'.

Anyone know a solution?

Hey,

So I've posted the same thing on the apple TV subreddit to see if it's an apple TV issue or not.

The issue is I'm getting random blackouts for a few seconds (screen will go black, show a loading white circle animation and come back) when plugging the Apple TV through the AVR.

When plugging it directly to the TV it doesn't do this.

I've tried different cables, ports on the AVR, making sure the settings on the AVR set that input to 8k enhanced to make sure it has enough throughput.

Seems to happen on the Apple TV 4k Youtube app for the most part but I believe I've seen it happen on the Netflix app too.

Anyone have a similar issue or know what could be going on?

Hello,

I want to get some new Speakers for my living room. The problem is, that I don’t know what I should look for. I‘m sitting 2.3m away from the center and the couch is 2,4m wide, so I need something with good vertical off-axis performance. What should I be looking for? I would like to stay under 1000€ if this is possible. I prefer buying used to get better quality for my money. L+R must be bookshelves, I already have 2 SVS SB12-NSD subwoofers, so the bass performance of the speakers isn’t important to me.

I have a 2007-ish Panasonic SC-PT860.

The speakers themselves are still working pretty well and I can remove the cables easily.

I want something more modern to replace the central CD/DVD player. I will not be using it for movies anymore, but exclusively for music. I'm looking for something with Bluetooth or streaming capabilities preferably.

But I don't know what type of product I should be searching for exactly, I don't know what the central player thing is supposed to be called. I won't be using it for home theater anymore, only for music.

I have 4 tall surround speakers, 1 subwoofer and 1 centre.

EDIT: Budget is about $250 max. Location is EU.

Hello,

I don't know if this question was tackled before but I don't know how to ask it so

I wan't to add this kind of speaker to my front towers as many do. Can I add them for my rear channels as well.

I currently have 5.1 If I add on top of tower's it will be 5.1.2 and on top of Rear channels it would be 5.1.4 or is it not worth it?

Needs to have good WAF because it already took a bit of convincing for my wife with the monster size of the current 580s. Also trying to not break the bank with these if possible.

Thanks!

I found this kit for $599.99. I’m wondering if the speakers and receiver are good for a 5.0 setup in an apartment. Im upgrading from a soundbar.

Thanks!
