I found this kit for $599.99. I’m wondering if the speakers and receiver are good for a 5.0 setup in an apartment. Im upgrading from a soundbar.

Thanks!

I'm trying to plan out a decent movie watching experience (I won't call it a home theater) and want to use a 5.2.2 setup. Just to give some detail on the pic, L / R are placed on top of ~ear level counter tops. Center will be placed on a hearth pointed slightly up. TV is above mantle but on a mantle mount so can be pulled down to a little higher than I'd like but far better than above mantle. A = atmos and those will be high up facing down. Ceiling is vaulted.

A couple of questions:

1. Where can I put the surrounds? I've added some additional pictures to show what the sides and back of room look like. On the sides, it's all windows and doors so not a lot of options for getting anything ear level on the wall. On the back is a bookshelf and bar. I could for sure put a speaker on the book shelf and probably one on the bar but then I pretty much just have back speakers and their distances and angles would be a bit different from one another. If I get closer to the furniture, it's really close to viewer which seems unpleasant.

Am I better of just committing to an odd 3.2.2 or trying to work in 5.2.2 with sub-optimal placement options?

2. Where do I place two subwoofers? FWIW, subs will by Rythmic so you have an idea of size. Front of room cabinets can't have subs inside of them. Do I just play with placement till it sounds right?

3. How bad are acoustics going to be with windows all along the sides? I know I could get some shades that are meant for home theater setups but I'm skeptical of how much those will help. Will it be so bad that it's just not meant to be?

Appreciate any help.

So I hooked my laptop to my projector through receiver and the picture is too dark and black. What am I supposed to change?

I love music. You could call me an audiophile that relies on personal taste over a flat response curve. I can't listen to music without a full parametric EQ, no matter how the speakers or headphones are built. I know what sounds good.

That said, I just got a Denon x6700H receiver and tried listening to some music. WOW. The Auro 3d and 2d surround settings are SO much better than the other options. It really feels amazing and enveloping to listen to. It's a very rich, warm and spacious sound.

Just wanted to give these settings a shout out since I've never been impressed by some no name setting out of the box like this before.

I have an Apple TV paired with two HomePods. The Apple TV has a feature to play audio that it receives from a TV via ARC over the HomePods, however my TV is way too old for this.

Is there an adapter that takes an optical signal in and send it back through an HDMI cable that’s outputting a signal to the TV? I suspect the answer is no after much googling, but figured I’d ask anyway. I know Sonos has their optical to HDMI adapter, but that would prohibit me from getting video output from the Apple TV, right?

Hi All,

We are about to start building a HT and my wife just got us a Turntable for Christmas. The problem is we want the Turntable in our main living area which is upstairs about 20feet or so away. Is there any way to hook the receiver and turntable together for this distance? The turntable is not Bluetooth.

I know we can buy powered speakers or an amplifier but if we can use the AV receiver for everything it would help save some cash.

Yes I’m new and still learning.

I’m trying to find good Surround Sound Wireless Headphones that use a 2.4GHz USB dongle ONLY.

I’ll be using my Shield TV Pro’s USB port for Audio-Out with the USB dongle.

I’d only be using it for TV/Movies. It’d be great, if they do Spatial/Dolby Atmos too.

Most headphones I’ve seen online are specifically made for gaming and have large microphones, which I have no use for.

I’ve tried r/headphoneadvice but it’s crickets when it comes to Movie usage, everyone is there for gaming or neutral audio.

Budget - $500

Edit: Any 2.4GHz headphones that work for a PC will 100% work for the shield tv pro.

I have a 3.1 with Marantz NR1711, Q Acoustics LCR and SVS SB1000 Pro.

I’m casting 5.1 content from my NAS via Plex. Please help me understand what listening mode I should be using. There are about a billion on this thing, and the auto setting disables my center.

I've just about researched all the fun out of this.

I'm looking at getting new speakers. The problem is that the left/right will have to go in actual bookshelves (this is a compromise with the SO)

Room dimensions: living room, 14ftx16ft with 8ft ceilings and an opening in to the kitchen about 7ft wide directly to the right of the built-in shelves.

TV is an 85" and sits on what will be a custom cabinet to sit on the hearth of a fireplace on the 16ft wall.

Center seating position is 8ft from where center channel would be located, and 9ft from where left and right need to go.

Dimensions of the shelves are 13" high, 11.25" deep.

I've been looking at KEF Q150s as left right, and debating on doing another single 150 for center, or their q250c.

For a sub I'm looking at the SVS SB 1000 pro due to its compact size.

I already have a denon s930h

Usage would be approximately 60% movies/TV/streaming, 20% music, 20% gaming.

I realize that the shelf dimensions are not great and would require any decent speaker to be pushed up flush against the wall. Was looking at ELAC debut b6.2 but they ended up being too tall for the shelves.

Any help or insight is much appreciated. I think I'm getting tunnel vision.

Having recently moved house, I’m planning to make a small movie room in the spare room, which is only around 10’ x 10’ plus small built in wardrobe. As a musician, I’d also like to have a space to do some basic recording (acoustic guitars, electric guitar through amps with mics, wind instruments, rough vocals, MIDI). Doesn’t need to be state of the art; if I need to do a serious recording I’ll go to a proper studio. Also not looking for a serious HT, just a good cosy movie-watching room, probably 5.1, separate components that can potentially be upgraded over time. Own the house so can do ‘invasive’ work!

I’m looking for advice in two areas, so will list them then go into more detail.

  1. Making the room work. It needs to be comfy, pleasant, and wife-friendly. Ideally all cables and anything recording-related can be hidden or stowed away.
  2. Tech setup. Trying to combine elements so they work across recording and cinema.
  3. Room setup. Thinking a nice couch at the back for movie seating. This plus maybe foldable stools to bring out for recording. They can live in wardrobe when not in use. Some discreet bass traps and sound deadening on walls and ceiling. Maybe a stowable projector screen, or an OLED, given that the room is not that big. (Also, could projector fan be noisy if in use during recording?) Control surface & MIDI keyboard fixed to a collapsable desk that can live in small wardrobe. Not worried about instrument storage - they can live elsewhere. But wardrobe would also contain cables, mics, one or two mic stands, can also be used to hide amps etc. Anything I’m missing here?
  4. Tech setup. As I’ll use powered monitors for my recording setup (Logic Pro X via Mac), I’d like to integrate these into the cinema setup and use them as fronts. Originally I thought I’d use pre-outs from an AV receiver, with the amp powering the rears and centre channel. But now I’m wondering if I can do away with the need for an AV receiver (I might be a moron, but please hear me out). If I use an audio interface for my Mac that supports 5.1/7.1, such as the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 can I feed that into budget class d amps for the centre and rears, whilst feeding the powered fronts and sub directly? Then I can run a bluray drive or streaming from my mac, which I prefer to crappy smart tv apps anyway (forgive me but I don’t have much experience of external boxes like the Apple TV/Roku). The TV or projector would be the visual monitor for the Mac. Btw I realise a PC might be more versatile, but Logic is only on Mac. To avoid cable spaghetti the interface would live in the wardrobe along with the Mac (mini) so would use longish USB-C cables for bringing out control surfaces and also wireless keyboard/mouse.

TLDR: advice sought on combining basic HT with basic Mac-based home studio, perhaps using multichannel audio interface instead of AVR.

As the titles says, I need help finding a 16 input (output quantity doesn’t need to be 16) that is capable of 4K at 60hz and those light un buttons to easily tell were it’s getting routed without needing to get to the UI

Edit: not sure if I’m using the correct tag

Edit 2: 16 seems a lot but I need 13 HDMIs for hooking a pc, Apple TV, blu-ray player, and consoles from PS3 up to the Xbox One X (not series) and HDMI 2.1 Consoles directly to the 2.1 inputs of the receiver. Many will question if I’m using a receiver why I would want a matrix/switch, it’s because I want to use and upscale and change the input on the fly, from Xbox360/any other console, to upscaler, or directly to tv/ another screen somewhere else/a desktop, you get the idea, if I’m making a big mistake please let me know

Hi, hoping to find help with leveling my Emotiva tower speakers on uneven floor. To center them right where I want them, they have to go half way over a threshold between wood flooring and tile (old house), and lean onwards. The T0's only come with very sharp feet which seems to be for carpet placement only, and I imagine using them here would scratch up the floor.

The T0's have threading for feet, but im not sure what threading they are, and the specs don't mention the threading of the feet that come with them (not that id expect them to include such a small detail)

Any suggestions are helpful, thanks!

I'm trying to add an HDMI switch to my setup since my soundbar only has one input. This is what I have for my entry-level Dolby Vision/Atmos-enabled equipment:

Toshiba - 55" Class LED 4K UHD Smart FireTV Edition TV (Model 55LF711U20, using the HDMI ARC input)

VIZIO - 5.1.2-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Dolby Atmos (Model SB36512-F6; HDMI standard input, HDMI ARC output)

Philips 4 Port 2.2 HDMI Switch (Model SWV9484B/27-991)

Sony 4K UHD Blu-Ray Player (Model UBPX700)

Apple - TV 4K 64GB (2nd Generation)

Philips Elite Premium High-Speed HDMI Cables with Ethernet, 4K@60Hz

I'm hoping to achieve this setup:

4K Blu-Ray + Apple TV > HDMI Switch > Soundbar > TV

These configurations work with Vision/Atmos coming through fine:

Apple TV > Soundbar > TV

Apple TV > HDMI Switch (standard input) > Soundbar > TV

4K Blu-Ray > Soundbar > TV

These configurations are not working at all:

4K Blu-Ray > HDMI Switch (ARC input) > Soundbar > TV

4K Blu-Ray > HDMI Switch (standard input) > Soundbar > TV

When the Blu-Ray player is simply powered on, I can see the player's home menu and settings through the HDMI switch. However once a disc is inserted and starts playing, the HDMI signal drops out entirely. Only when I open the disc tray does the signal comes back.

I'm not really sure what is happening here... Apple TV works perfectly through the HDMI switch, so I don't understand why the signal is dropping for Blu-Ray. I had the same thing happen with another Rocketfish HDMI switch too. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Been rocking a Nakamichi Shockwafe for about 2 years now. Was gifted a Denon S760H as part of a company raffle and while I thought about just reselling it, after doing some research, it looks like I want to just keep it and start building a system, but honestly have no clue where to start.

  • Budget: $2.5K
  • Desired setup: Probably 2.1 to start (uncertain on bookshelf vs tower - the room I have can support either, I think)
  • Room: Living Room
  • Media it'll be for: Movies, sports, PS5, Xbox, etc. Not an audiophile by any meals. Just want something that'll deliver a great sounding system.

Where I'm at:

  • SVS Prime Tower x2 ($1400)
  • SVS SB-1000 Pro ($600)
  • Revel C25 ($600)

Perhaps dumping the subwoofer (for now) and getting a better center channel is better?

Hi Reddit,

Just built a new home and we've installed 5.1 surround system pre-wiring in the living room area. I bought an LG C3 77" and an Apple TV system, but have no idea how to maximize the audio system. Where do I begin and how can I gradually add components to my system? Where is a good place to start?

Please keep in mind that I have little to no experience with sound systems, and I'd like to work on a reasonable budget while optimizing sound output.

Thanks!

So....well, you have all helped very much in finding what would work for my setup.

I have currently an Onkyo TX-NR777, and had a terrible mismatch of hand me downs from clients, friends and so on including 2 Energy XL26, a Yamaha yts 315sw sub, and some Bose cube speakers for Atmos....I made the "mistake" of upgrading my sub to the Klipsch rp120sw ....it was a mistake, because...from there it just went nuts. I liked Klipsch, so I bought the rp8000f.....and everything just dwarfed on me LOL shit .... Went through 3 center speakers settling on rp504c....nice ...but gotta admit, Klipsch subs just was pretty sad ....so, I got the pb2000 as many recommended, I'll get the miniDSp later once I'm done building...then I got the rp600m for surround.... overkill? Not sure....I can't believe the wife factor panned out LOL anyways, here's my question, I purchased the Denon x3600h to get better sound, and to get the 4 Atmos speakers that is coming hooked up...and, I wanted the Audessey t32 as well. Listening to probably way too many reviews, I'm getting a bit of buyers remorse and and wondering if this is gonna be a great sounding system? After tweaking and all that jazz....I'm 90/10 on movie/music but that might change if I can get the music to sound decent. It's ok now, but not good enough... streaming from YouTube, Roku ultra. I got some null zones I wanna eliminate, probably add another pb2000 pro at some point, when I dig myself out of this hole of debt LOL id you made it this far, thank you. Been lurking and reading all the posts, great support here!!!
