I was going to post this in Audiophile but saw the banner said no tech posts. Maybe i could get you guys' thoughts on this?

I've had the MiniDSP for about a year but was always a bit overwhelmed by what i thought was a complex task. Dang, it was a lot easier than i thought and it made a huge difference! haha... Tomorrow I am going to move my acoustic panels around, toe in my speakers a bit more as i want am testing extreme toe-in and rerun audyssey. I was thinking of doing the following and i am curious if you guys think this makes sense or could offer a better way.

  1. Rerun audyssesy.

  2. Use MultEQ X to import a target Harmon curve. Then, should I?...

    1. Apply target curve to subs and fronts or
    2. Only apply target curve to fronts and leave the sub flat or
    3. Filter out all EQ from being applied to the subs and do all of it with REW and DSP?
    4. What are you thoughts on DEQ in the case of MiniDSP?
  3. Connect subs to MiniDSP then MiniDSP to Sub 1 on the receiver.

  4. Use REW and MiniDSP to fine tune. (Pretty much doing what i learned in this 4 part series, )

Room: Main wall = 13ft, Side Walls 21ft. I have some large openings on the left side, one to a hallway and one to the into the dinning room.

Denon AVR-4700h

Speakers: RF7 III about 11ft apart, currently testing extreme toe in. MLP about 13ft from speaker. 2 SPL 150 Subwoofers, in the best locations given room constraints (living room/multi-purpose.)

I have about about 64 sq/ft of DIY OC 703 4inch paneling mounted on the sides and behind the towers.

Wife Acceptance Factor is my absolute top priority. That means keeping the budget low and not doing dramatically noticeable room treatment. My Marantz SR7001 has finally died (super low volume center channel output) so I can justify getting a new receiver. I have a ~$500 budget. From what I’ve read, Dirac Live is going to do the best job at correcting my bad room. However, I’ve also noticed that getting Dirac Live under $1000 isn’t really possible. The next best thing seems to be Audyssey. I’ve learned that there are 3 flavors of Audyssey, MultEQ, MultEQ XT, and MultEQ XT32. Based on my reading, if bass correction is the goal, XT32 is the way to go. Frustratingly, XT32 doesn’t seem to be available on midrange receivers (looking at the Denon X2700H and similar).

So! What would your approach be?

My System

Speakers: JBL Studio 570, 530, 520C

Subwoofer: Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000

Projector: Epson HomeCinema 1040

Source: Apple TV 4K 128GB + Ethernet

The area above my fireplace has a center stud with two stud's flanking it 24" apart. I had a 65" TV up there with a razor mount that was mounted off center but now I have a much heavier 75" Sony Bravia I want to mount and I don't think the existing mount is going to support it well (it's currently too high anyway.) Of course they put the electric right in the middle as well. Anyone have a mount recommendation for a situation like this? It would be ideal if there was a mount wide enough to hit three studs 24" apart but I'm not sure such a thing exists. I'm not a huge fan of the single studs mounts. Thanks in advance!

So I just got the Edifier S2000MKIII powered bookshelf speakers and love them. I was thinking they could use some more bass. Is there a way for me to add a subwoofer? The speakers don’t have a sub out

Thanks

How would you personally allocate a $5,000 budget on a new receiver, speakers and the subwoofer? I’m not necessarily asking for actual speakers or receiver recommendations but just how you would split the budget so I can research the correct things in each category.

I watch at moderate volumes so performance at high volume doesn’t matter to me. Sound stage matters to me. Huge bass does not (though a decent sub would be great).

Thanks in advance.

I have an older Epson projector and sound bar that I am trying to use for a budget bedroom setup. The projector only has one HDMI and component inputs. I need to get audio off of the HDMI to send to the sound bar. What is the best way to do this? I see audio extractors on Amazon but most of them have mixed reviews.

I have a dumb question: What does it exactly mean, when an AVR supports HDR10/Dolby Vision? Does it perform tone mapping amd outputs 24-bit signal such that I can watch HDR movies on any kind of TV then, or I need a TV supporting that too?

A related question: What if my AVR supports HDR10 only? What will happen if I try to playback HDR10+ or Dolby Vision, will it fall back to HDR10 or fail to play that?

Hi, need some advice. Im looking to buy a new tv for my bedroom. Normally i would watch some sports, news, streaming and movies on the tv. The seating distance is about 16 ft (from my headboard to the wall im planning to mount the tv. Since i live in malaysia, the choices of tv model and brands are limited. Hence i was wondering should i go for 85 inch sony x95l, samsung 98 inch q80c or 85 inch sony x90l ? I know to some of your bedroom tv is not your main tv, but frankly speaking, for me its going to be my main tv tho.

Hey all,

I’m looking to add to my system and could use some insights.

I currently have two KEF q-150s as my L and R channel with a matching q-250 center channel running through a Denon x1700h. I’m looking to add a bass and two rears.

I found an affordable pair of SVS prime satellite speakers ($300 for 2 or $450 for 3) and I’m wondering if they’ll mesh well with the KEFs. Any idea?

For the sub, I found a second hand SB-1000 pro for $550. I know the PB is better for movies and games, my main uses, but I’ve heard the it can be overwhelming in small rooms. My theater room is about 15x13ft. Will the PB be too much in that space?

Thanks in advance. This community has been super helpful for me so far and I appreciate everyone’s help.
