I've noticed that the system takes a lot of RAM. How do I free some up?

Edit: a reboot fixed it

Do we have a default application for Note?

I know it sounds mundane, but we have calculator, sound recorder, music player, even web browser. It just seems a bit strange we don't have a basic plain-text note application.

I usually use Markor. I have no complaint overall except that it would stick out like sore thumb on my front screen due to it not having the themed icon.

Devs & fellow users, what do y'all think?

I purchased a Pixel 7 for my wife specifically to install Lineage OS 21, replacing a Samsung Galaxy which hasn't received updates for years. She hates changing phones, but I sold her on a Pixel + Lineage so she can keep the phone as long as possible, still receiving OS updates.

I'm super happy with the outcome, finding Lineage to be a huge win. However, my wife is extremely particular about customizing her interface, and finds Lineage (or maybe it's just the newer Android 14?) lacking the customization options she wants. She's coming from a much older Android version, possibly relying on a few Samsung-specific options.

In particular, Lineage's Trebuchet launcher doesn't seem to let her group apps as folders in the app drawer (tray?) - only on the primary Home screen. When she swipes up, she gets an overload of apps all at once, and she wants to group those into folders the same way the Home screen allows. The Home screen itself she prefers to keep super clean. The config she likes was easy to setup her older Samsung running vendor-ROM Android, and she's super frustrated that she can't seem to get that under Lineage.

Also, she absolutely hates the default app icons and font choices. I'm hoping to get a recommendation for a replacement Launcher, and/or add-on apps that allow her to customize these specific settings. F-Droid apps would be ideal, though paid GApps (ugh!) would still do in a pinch. I just want her to love her new phone, and without these options she never will.

Thanks so much!

I have LineageOS installed on my phone and it has almost weekly updates. Since the device is quite budget, I believe its memory can be damaged by such often updates so I'm not updating it for 2 months already. But there are security fixes and patches in newer versions so I do want to update. My question is: do I have to install every update one by one (there are like 8 of them lol) or can I just install the newest version? All of the updates are minor of course. There are no Android version jumps

EDIT: I installed the latest version as everyone suggested and everything seems to be working fine. Thank you all for help

I have a Google Pixel 4a. I have LineageOS on it (codename Sunfish). When I first installed it I got regular updates each week. But now I haven't received one since March 16. Have they stopped releasing these? Do I now have to try and build updates myself?

Where do old builds go? (download.lineageos.org)

When I started using LineageOS on my Redmi Note 9 Pro, there were a couple of releases available, one was LOS 18.1 and the other one was LOS 19.1, but as time went, the los 18.1 downloads were gone and then the same happened to the 19.1 releases.

Thankfully, I have the version that I want already downloaded in my machine, but if someone wanted to download now those prior versions... well, good luck it seems.

Edit: yes, I know about archive.org, but can't download.lineageos.org provide access to prior versions somehow? Is it because of storage costs?

I have a Nothing Phone 1 but unfortunately, no one's currently maintaining it. I was thinking of doing it myself but I don't really know where to start. Would be great if you could give me some pointers.

@lineageos I request you to release Android 14 for Mi 11X(alioth)

Form that committ, it seems to me that LOS is finally allowing signature spoofing for microg (under certain conditions). Have they finally changed their mind?

I recently got this second hand nvidia shield, and heard lineageOS was compatibile. I have access to this guide https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/foster/variant1/ but I'm having some doubts about its compatibility. Can someone confirm?

Although GPS or hardware based location does work on LineageOS, it seems there is no easy way to get software based Network Location officially on LineageOS due to UnifiedNLP getting deprecated and merged to GMS Core. (Also see this post)

After discussing with community and my own research, there are 2 ways to get it on LineageOS-

  1. Either get LineageOS for MicroG. Problem with that being it is not official.
  2. Or get some older version of UnifiedNLP with MinMicroG (also an older version) or some other 3rd party installer.

Both of these are complicated and risky (as flashing can brick a phone) processes for something that is software based and is only half part of location services as GPS still works, meaning imo, you aren't getting your effort's worth. Especially noobs.

This post is an upto date guide for future users (as not many might get difference between GPS and Network Location) while also inviting suggestions for older users on how they dealt with the problem.

How is battery life on your instantnoodle and what is your general experience? Do you like LOS 20 better?

Hello, yesterday I installed LineageOS 21 on my phone. It seems like everything is working fine, except that when I open a video with the official YouTube app or using ReVanced, after a few seconds, the video image freezes, but the audio continues. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a solution? In the meantime, I'm using Tubular, and it works fine. Thank you

So there is a blog post that announces all of the new features but I don't see anything but 20 under the download pages. Maybe I'm just being impatient.

Edit: yes

I'm thinking that I might need to get a new battery but I want to check the health of my current one.

Happy New Year! DivestOS and the Divested projects as they currently stand are ultimately unsustainable. My goal for 2023 was to acquire a grant to continue my work, I was unsuccessful. Today I am announcing a fundraiser of raising $12,000 USD by end of February. It may be a stretch to ask, but I hope you all have found sufficient value in my work to keep these projects going. If it is unsuccessful I will switch to a full-time job and the Divested projects will take a backseat. To those who have donated, I truly appreciate your support. Thank you - Tavi.

I've heard and read recently about a warrant that shows that the US government is monitoring push notifications on iOS and Android. This is possible because push notifications mostly work remotely, using "push notification post office" servers at Apple and Google.

I am aware that certain apps; such as Threema, Signal, Proton, Tuta, and others; use their own servers for push, but not all apps will do this. So, as a deGoogled operating system, how exactly does LineageOS handle push notifications?

I just noticed there's an app installed on a recently acquired pixel 4a 5g, "android system intelligence", which I never found installed on other phones like moto or xiaomi ones.

It also had by default a bunch of permissions granted, which I removes, and only left it with notifications.

Is this a system app I should leave working with more permissions? Should I disable it instead (if possible, I didn't try)?

Is it required for an android system proper functionality? Is it bad to remove all permissions except by the notifications one? Does this damage functionality?

I'm just suspecting about an "android intelligence" thing.

What have others done about it?

Hi !

I recently got a pixel 4a 5g (bramble), and when installing, I noticed there's a difference with respect other phones I've installed lineageos on, like motorola, xiomi redmi 4x (discontinued) and others.

On this pixel, and probably others, one needs to flash a boot.img, a dtbo.img and a vendor_boot.img, before sideloading lineageos. The vendor_boot.img is supposed to be the equivalent to the recovery.img.

On other phones there's only a recovery.img to flash, prior to sideloading lineageos.

Now, on this pixel majore version upgrades I see documented only the sideload of lineageos. For other phones I usually upgrade both, the recovery.img and then sideload the new major version of lineage. So not sure if I should then should flash all images, boot, dtbo and vendor_boot, when upgrading on major versions. I guess I could, but I'm wondering.

Moreover, even on same major OTA upgrades, I'm wondering what gets upgraded, if I have selected OTA upgrades to also upgrade recovery image, would it just upgrade the vendor_boot one, or would it flash all other images?

It's just that it involves flashing several other images, not matching the ones for other phones, :)

Thanks !

Okay, I have a Google Pixel 4a with LineageOS (sunfish). I followed the instructions given at this site, and created a Seedvault backup.

I had my phone plugged into my laptop via USB, and transfer of files for USB was enabled; so, the laptop could access the phone's files via MTP. However, this was not seen as an option for where the backup was to be created (IE, it did not give the option to create the backup on the hard drive of the laptop via a file transfer with MTP). So, I created it on the phone.

I have since copied that file to my laptop. Specifically, I copied the backup file which was created, that being .SeedVaultAndroidBackup, to my laptop. My laptop runs Debian Linux.

So, a few questions:

1.) will I be able to restore from the backup file, .SeedVaultAndroidBackup, that exists on my laptop? Or will this not work, given that it wasn't originally created there?

2.) if the answer to (1.) is "yes", then will I be able to delete the backup that was made on my phone?

3.) is there a way to create a backup with Seedvault specifically on my laptop, rather than copying the created backup file afterword? I wonder if there was a setting with USB transfer (MTP) that could be adjusted (IE, making the laptop the focus rather than the phone).

I recently bought a Google Pixel 4a. The link from the title outlines that security updates from Google will soon be ending for the Pixel 4a (though there was a surprise update in November, but no further updates are expected).

Yet, in spite of that, I assume that LineageOS security updates will continue for this phone, since for a variety of other older phones they have continued. But, I wonder, how will this be achieved? Is there information on how LineageOS creates and releases security updates for the devices that it supports?
