The flower, also known as bog bird's-foot trefoil, is an endangered species under Canada’s species at risk act with its national population exclusively located in the Nanaimo area.

The connected lots at 330 and 338 Ninth St. were rezoned from single-dwelling residential (R1) to low-density residential with a site-specific density (R6) during the Monday, June 17 regular council meeting.

The proposed conceptual plan is for a multi-residential development on the site featuring seven ground-orientated townhouse buildings two to three storeys in height with 34 units in total.

The doctor, in her speech at the ceremony, noted that the 2024 graduating class included students who had high school grad festivities cancelled in 2020, and whose "entire university experience was in the shadow of this global pandemic," bringing related challenges and uncertainty.

"Being here today at this celebration, this transition, shows how you overcame these changes, these hurdles and succeeded despite the challenges," Henry said.
