Yesterday I saw the piefed.ca announcement so I signed up, looked around, imported my settings from lemmy.ca and posted some questions in some Piefed topics. This morning I have notifications of replies to those topics on both piefed.ca and lemmy.ca. I also seem to own (ability to edit etc.) the posts on both Lemmy and Piefed. I'm GreatBlueHeron (with the same linked email address) on both lemmy.ca and piefed.ca.

If I'm the same identity on both lemmy.ca and piefed.ca, why did I have to signup to piefed.ca? Shouldn't I have been able to just use piefed.ca as [email protected]? (I know this sounds like I'm complaining about having to sign-up, but I'm just trying to understand how it works)

Hi all,

Just migrated my profile over from lemmy, and the export json appears complete with all my blocked users, communities, and instances - but importing it, even though 'successful', only imports user and community blocks, not instances.

Is that a configuration error somewhere, or a bug in piefed itself?

Hello, I just spent like 5 minutes trying to figure this out and figured this might be a common question, so just posting the answer here for posterity. If Piefed hasn't seen the community before you can add it by navigating to Topics -> All Communities -> Add Remote Community.

It seems like unseen communities don't automatically get added when you try migrate your user JSON, so be careful to add any remote communities that are missing.
