TLDR: If using Freeview satelite go to channel 20, if you can’t watch Al Jazeera, then it’s time to upgrade.

From :

On January 22nd, satellite broadcasts of Sky Open, eden+1, Bravo+1 and Al Jazeera will be updated in preparation for an upcoming New Zealand satellite TV network update.

If you're tuned in through a UHF aerial, or use the Freeview Streaming TV app, this won't affect you in any way.

Most satellite boxes and TVs will pick up the updated channels seamlessly on the day, but if yours does not, give it a retune.

Older satellite boxes won’t pick up these channels and will need to be replaced. Check Your Satellite Box.

Do a quick check now to see if you need to replace your satellite box to keep watching those channels. It’s easy!

Go to Freeview channel 20 and if can’t watch Al Jazeera, then it’s time to upgrade.

If you can watch Al Jazeera on channel 20, you're all set.

This came to mind the other day... any additions ?

Pies;

  • the $1 pie as kids at rugby. After dodging the sheep poo in paddocks (sports fields) & doing a few banana runs, we'd then get a fizzy drink & pie for $2.
  • At secondary School - Couplands 60c pie, square, no flavor but apparently had the equivalent of a golf ball of fat in each one so that was a challenge accepted for a 17 year old to try and put on weight. It was a teenaged diet of one pie a day for a school year and somehow only 1Kg was gained.
  • Work - Mrs Macs cruiser pie, a submarine shaped pie with actual chunks of steak. This was in a time where people used to boast about how awful the filling of pies actually was, so real discernible chunks of steak was a game changer.
  • A new era of pie - Fairlie bakery, salmon and bacon, corned beef & mustard, creamy chicken and mushroom etc. This was like the dawn of the gourmet range of pie, flakey pastry as a standard, there were no longer just palatable meat and dough as a carrier, there were now tastey morning belly fillers you would make a special trip for and full conversations would be had about which ratings different places deserved.
  • BP Petrol station pies - Butter chicken etc - full range of pies now added, so you could get something interesting any work morning/ lunch
  • Specialty pies - Sangas Pie - these seem to be where things are at now... they are amazing. Like the 'Sancho' - a mexican pie, beans, sour cream, chicken, nachos etc or the 'Underbelly' - a slow cooked Pork belly pie with an aromatic blend a spices beautifully balanced... you almost get the impression a chef makes each individual pie.

Just about everything is out of stock. And the only options are go second hand or a few 4060s or 4070super at MA. Whats up with that? Computer lounge and PB aren't much better with all the popular cards on backorder. The one time I have money and want to upgrade I can't lol.

Has anyone ever seen tubs of banana ice cream you can buy? Maybe a controversial flavour but it’s my favourite and Google is not helping!

There’s an ice cream shop in Rotorua that sells banana chocolate chip so it must exist somewhere. RIP banana paddle pops.

I'm a 22 year old guy 6 months into my auto sparky apprenticeship. It's been going well so far and I enjoy the work but have been getting more pissed off at some of my coworkers and boss recently. Yeah this is just part of being the apprentice but I'm CONSTANTLY being fucked with. It's just small things. I'm constantly the butt of every joke. It's like I'm a joker clown who's only there to provide everyone else amusement. Yeah I'm being taught stuff but still...

I take it pretty well. I went to an all boys school and grew up playing rugby, and I've literally grown up around these kinds of people, and I'm friends with people like this outside of work. Its just our culture. Whenever they fuck with me I laugh it off and they come up to me with a big smile and pat on the back. BUT still it's really starting to piss me off. At the end of the day I'm there to learn. I want to start my own business one day, and I'm passionate about this and trying to take my job seriously. They've never hit me or punched me or anything but still

Also when one of my 22 year old mates fucks with me I call him a cunt and laugh it off, but when theres a bunch of 40+ year old men fucking with me, it feels really different. Its like grow TF up, im there to learn how to be a great auto sparky not a fucking clown to have the piss taken out of for months on end.... i can deal with it a little bit all in good fun but when it goes on for months its just annoying

A couple of weeks ago I posted a comment on somebody else's thread about how I was struggling with motivation, energy, feeling really low, unable to get stuff done, and in general being totally miserable.

()

The support I received on that one comment was really nice. A bunch of people reached out in the comments with advice, and also in my DMs. They helped me get over myself, get over my concerns about not being able to afford to see the doctor*, and actually get me moving.

I've been to the doctor now, I've been prescribed some happy pills, and although they apparently take a few weeks to kick in, I'm already feeling a lot better. I don't think the medication is doing that much yet, but just the fact that I DID SOMETHING instead of wallowing in my own misery actually has changed my mindset and approach. I sense some hope and much less trepidation about how this is all going to turn out.

Thank you, kind Reddit strangers.

* re not being able to afford the doctor... he didn't charge me anything. :/

We are looking to sell our house soon. We know a couple of people have done it themselves but for anyone who did this - was it difficult? Any fishhooks? Seems to me that agents make the process more convenient, take care of marketing, but at a cost of around 2.5-3.5% of sale. Any advice if we were to self sell?

I just traveled across the North and South island by bike for 3 months, here are some of my observations nobody asked for:

  • Your country has the most beautiful and diverse nature of any country I've been to
  • DOC is the best conservation institution maybe anywhere on the planet
  • The DOC rules and regulations (which are needed) together with the amount of tourists can make places feel too polished sometimes and less like wilderness
  • There's still 'unpolished' places to be found. My favourite bits were Molesworth/Awatere, the Nevis Valley and the Omarama Saddle range
  • Kiwis are in general some of the friendliest people I've met
  • Kiwis turn into utter maniacs once they get into a car
  • New Zealand cities and infrastructure resemble the US much more than they do Europe
  • Kiwis don't like when you tell them the above
  • Your opinion about other NZ cities improves once you visit Greymouth, Invercargill or Palmerston North
  • Public transport is terrible
  • All the different birds and the love for them is incredible
  • Except magpies tho, screw those fuckers
  • Sandflies are satan's spawn
  • NZ fish and chips is at least just as good as the UK's for half the price
  • Pie culture is the best thing since sliced bread
  • tf is up with cheese rolls
  • The North Island is underrated amongst tourists. Lush forests, green hills and loved learning about all the Maori culture there
  • NZ is bloody expensive
  • Coming here is worth every cent

I've had an incredible time here. You can be truly proud of your country. Thank you heaps for having me!

My partner and I just moved to Auckland a couple of months ago and are in Taupō for the weekend.

Intercity bus here, a bit wild on the turns but nothing too crazy. Picked up our rental to drive the short distance to our accommodation, easy peasy - or so we thought..

Two turns in and we’re driving on a 50km road with multiple cars in front of us and I can see in the rearview that the guy tailgating me also has a tailgater, who is driving on the non existent shoulder - I guess trying to see why we were all so slow (was I too slow for going the limit in a high crash zone??)

Guy directly behind me then proceeds to cut me off as I’m trying to turn left. It was super dangerous so I beeped my horn and he came to a stop directly beside me to yell some things at my partner who had his window down to ask ‘man what the fuck!?’

This then pissed off the tailgater behind him (who I also let pass coz at this point I’m not wanting to pay an excess for something so trivial) who beeped and sped up directly behind him so he just stopped dead in the middle of the road.

It’s first tailgater stopped at the left turn give way line, shoulder driver tailgater stopped behind him and then us stopped a little further back.

He got out, she got out, they yelled in each other’s faces while we sat in our car watching. She then stormed to her boot, pulled out a MACHETE and a BASEBALL BAT?!

Meanwhile I’ve switched my gear to reverse ready to Tokyo drift outta there and possibly straight back to Auckland because wt actual f.

Old mate at the front’s already driven off by this point so machete mama gets in and flies down the road to continue the tailgate.

Thankfully we were only behind them for a couple of minutes before we turned off onto a quiet, empty road.

I don’t even know how to end this except that this was probably one of the more intense situations I’ve had the misfortune of being a part of since moving here.

If one thing came from this Gloriz nonsense is how fucking dystopian a multinational security empire monitoring your actions in most retailers is.

Was there something I missed when this was being discussed or did the police and leaders just sell our privacy down the river without anyone noticing?

Jake the Muss (in Once were warriors) famously couldn't cook an egg, this made him quite aggressive.

I've met a lot of people who "choose not to drive" - which means, rely on others to drive them around. But driving is less required for life than eating. Does anyone know friends, family, acquaintances, that couldn't cook a meal more complex than one that's heated in the microwave?

As title - NZ is spoiled for some of the best beer in the world. Amazing breweries in virtually every large town/city.

But I don't care about your occasional "Bumthumper Triple Sickly Stout" that comes out every odd season, I'm talking your Go To beer. The beer you get when you want fridge beers, that are there, that are satisfying and good.

I don't judge, I'm keen on the odd VB & Steiny here and there.

My go to? Monteiths Original. It's a bit better than shit, but a bit shit to be considered special.

Yours please.
