So people have been raving about Serral breaching 4k in the vT matchup and being 300 points clear of Number 2 in aligulac. I thought it would be interesting to see how his tournament performance rating for Katowice is, since he played above even his own high standards.

"Tournament performance rating" is a term I mostly know from chess, but it is applicable to any Elo-system, such as aligulac, and simply assesses a players performance over specific stretch of games, such as a tournament. If someone has 100% Winrate, the TPR is +∞, but luckily, Serral dropped a single map as if just to humour me, and a specific number for his TPR can be calculated:

With a 20-1 score (as opposed to the 15.4 - 5.6 that aligulac would have predicted) against opposition that was rated 3197 on average, the mathematical model states that Serral performed a whopping 1668 rating points above his adversaries, which would put him at a rating of 4865 for this tournament. That's pretty insane. But we ofc already knew that his Katowice run was insane, this is just a small mathematical gimmick to quantify this insanity :)

I didn't see anyone talk about it around here, so here it goes

Bullet points:

  • When Twitch Korea shuts down on 27th, he won't continue playing SC2 after
  • He doesn't feel like he can win vs other pros. Feels that hands can't keep up
  • has been making nearly $0 from twitch recently but he will stick to end as he has lingering feeling
  • He will be switching to SC1 in Afreeca after twitch shutdown, but no sooner as he will stream SC2 on Twitch until 27th.

From:

47:58:

815: Did you talk with other SC2 streamers together about what to do?

Forgg: There isn't really collab stream [culture] in SC2. It's all solo.

815: I know you prefer solo. how about with players like Stats?
I know you prefer being solo but surely you guys would all gather up in a call together and stream

Forgg: It's all individuals

815: You don't keep up with Stats even though we were all KT?

Forgg: Do you?

815: yea I talk with him all the time in LoL.

53:00:

815: You sure it isn't just you and everyone else in SC2 already planned to move to another platform together?

Forgg: No, like everyone are kind of on their own separate path [once twitch ends]
(regarding moving platform)

53:44:

When Twitch closes down (Feb 27), I don't think I will continue playing SC2

54:03:

815: but isn't there new SC2 tournaments opening and all?

Forgg: The tournaments that open won't matter because I don't feel like I can win vs [other players].
It feels like my hands can't keep up.
It's different from SC1 because if you lose a big fight once, you over.

59:11:

I've been streaming at morning at twitch [to match foreigner times].
I've been making nearly 0 income recently but it's more of just sticking to it until the shutdown.

1:03:00:

815: you have a lot of foreign fans, would they follow you to afreeca?

Forgg: No, they can't with afreeca.

815: You would be starting over then?

Forgg: Yes. I am thinking it as more of a stable company I was working at just disappearing all the sudden.
I was bit nonplussed at start but I'm ok now. All my viewers would just probably go to other streams.

1:05:15:

Think I will be going over to SC1.
I'm not going to [do dual stream] before twitch is gone.
Before Twitch is gone, I will stick with [SC2] then move into SC1 [instead of switching right away right now].
I have some lingering feelings regarding SC2 and I won't be able to stream it afterwards so I will just stream to end.
I guess you can say it as bit of fanservice

1:08:50:

Nothing's set in stone. I realized this with Twitch with its shutdown. No more planning and just going with flow from now.

1:12:28:

rather than moving to new streaming platform like chzzk (new korean streaming platform),
I feel more secure moving to somewhere I already have account on (afreeca)

Shame since ForGG won't be around soon. I was personally a really big fan of his 2014 dreamhack 4:2 win vs Life and it remained my favorite SC2 series to this day personally. It's shame it didn't work out after his return from army as he planned but he has been ever-present part of SC2 stream ecosystem for years now.

Please give him support at: . He will be streaming SC2 and on twitch until the day of shutdown.

Hey guys!

I made a post a couple of weeks ago about hosting a "BarCraft" event, where nerds take up some space in a bar to watch professional Starcraft. I was happy to hear some interest in this event so I decided to go out of my comfort zone and ask around. Well the good news is that Bit Bar was kind enough to give us some space and a 70 inch TV. This is happening next week, Tuesday the 27th at 7pm in Bit Bar. It's going to be a casual watch of Group A with a small predictions sheet. We'll mostly just vibe with the Korean casters but I will bring a PA system to give new people an idea of what to expect.

Bit Bar posted a Facebook event:

My wife made a poster for me as well:

Back when they were broken, one competitor won a tournament by just training adepts.

Hello,

I’m pushing 80 years old this coming year and I’ve been looking back at some of the times that I’ve enjoyed during my life. Back in 2006, my grandson had me play one of the star craft games. I really enjoyed it and I’d like to play it again since it’s been so long.

I don’t have any interest in playing competitively, so should I start off with 1 again and play the campaign? Or is 2 the better way to start.

Thank you all

For a background, I was a 4k Zerg but got fed up with the role of constant firefighting against drops and each ZvZ left me exhausted. I learnt to play Toss and Terran with proper macro styles, making it to 3,5k with Toss and 3k with Terran. Much more fun but still a bit stressful.

Inspired by some cheeses of Cure I decided to try out those against AI and was ready to go to the ladder. My MMR is 500 lower since but I am having a blast. 3 rax and if that fails then into BC + mines. Flying around with big units going pew pew on enemy mineral lines and being able to watch it is so satisfying. No worries about losing because I had fun obliterating units.

And there are fun close games when a fellow cheeser cheeses and it turns to a base race and you win thanks to a flying base that shoots mules. Proxy raxes pumping more marines while enemy Tosses or Zergs trying to survive with what they have. Macro games at my level were just about efficiency and the games with another macro-oriented player would be just macroing because 85 drone economy gives you enough work to do so you never get to watch fights. Just execution until you win or lose, winning being satisfying but losing leaves you hollow as you never really had fun.

TL.net user serralbest posted this thread with link to this bilibili video. The video shows baneling doing more damage than expected to units on a slope.

Here is a GPT translation of the top comment there:

The origin of this bug traces back to an update (presumed to be in January 2023) that added an item to the effect list of Baneling's primary weapon self-destruct, named BanelingVolatileBurstDirectFallbackSet. Its direct effect is to inflict self-destruct equivalent damage to primary targets situated on different elevation levels. This change was likely intended to address and fix a bug where Banelings could explode and damage units across cliff levels. However, given that weapon range would not allow for primary weapon attacks on targets outside of a slope, the effect has turned into causing double damage when attacking targets on slopes with the primary weapon. It can only be said that the level of temporary coding in StarCraft 2 is just like this.

Can anyone confirm this?
