Before I get started, I want to say I know this is a contentious topic, but please hear me out when I say MBS was ABSOLUTELY a win for StarCraft, especially the professional scene. I think Saudi Arabia’s EWC being the largest tournament in StarCraft’s history is the time to finally acknowledge this.

With all the new buildings that were added, can we really say that we’d be able to appreciate it all if we DIDN’T have MBS? People aren’t going to accept outdated infrastructure. Especially if we want to attract players to this game.

I know there’s a lot of purists out there, that think that MBS’s inclusion has tainted the scene. But without MBS, we would never have seen games as epic as our games today. One could argue that MBS’s entry into StarCraft really pushed players to their peak today. This tournament has been killing it!

I’m tired of people still complaining “MBS is bad”, “MBS ruins StarCraft” etc. It’s 2024 now, we gotta move on from this bickering and accept the future. Multiple Building Selection is here to stay.

Are you looking for a fun and engaging tournament geared towards amateur players who don't have a lot of time on their hands? Then look no further, because the LittleMac Associated Organisation needs you! We run two different SC2 Tournaments and are starting another season of both of them right now. Players schedule a match a week which means that these tournament take several months to complete.

The games are streamed (mostly from replay at first and then live as we get later on in the tournament) on my twitch channel:

The first tournament is called the LMSL and is for players who have maintained an average MMR of below 4.5K in the last 90 days.

The second tournament is called the LMML and is for players who have maintained an average MMR of below 5.4K in the last 90 days.

You must be a member of my discord to play in the tournaments:

If you are interested in signing up the challonge can be found below, but you must also verify yourself in the discord. You can also ask me, LittleMac, any questions you may have as well in the discord. We also do other fun stuff there like balance whine etc...

LMSL:

LMML:

There is always a guaranteed prizepool for top four of each tournament which is handled through Matcherino. Even if you cannot play, we would be grateful if you used our free codes to add money into the prize pool:

LMSL:

LMML:

If you would like to look at previous seasons we have Liquipedia pages for both tournaments.

Soooooooooooo HYPE!

Close wins. Congratulations to Oliveira!

First four maps were so head-to-head I was on the edge of my seat! The first map, Oliveira was in a really bad position when he lost the stim. But he displayed such patience, grinding down the tanks with liberators, and finally made a great comeback.

Moreover the crazy cloak banshee in map 5! The first banshee even survived the first scan and literally just secured a triumph. I'm at a loss for words to praise Oliveira right now. He was sooooo well. ByuN had crazy bio tank pushes too, but kinda got outsmarted.

Looking forward to Oliveira vs Maru. Although Oliveira won today, he did make quite a lot of mistakes, gotta need more perfection to challenge Maru.

Little Red Rabbit did a small interview with Oli and Coffee just before the game start, all in Chinese but here I will just highlight a bit.

Interview with Oli

Q: how do you feel about your prep for EWC?

Oli: Not very well, lost a lot in prep games, low expectations...

Q: Who do you think would win the champion

Oli: I would say Serral, but I think he might have got COVID, so I am not sure now, but he can still do it. My top 3 pick would be Serral, Clem, and Reynor.

Interview with Coffee

Q: what was your first thought when you saw you face Serral in the first round?

Coffee: "the victim is very calm"

Q: have you prepared any special cheese for Serral?

Coffee: not really. They (Oli and other team members) suggested some cheese, and I would have believed them except I saw they were giggling when telling me these cheese...

Q: what made you continue to be a SC2 gamer? (Coffee was very good in Dota and considered moving to other game)

Coffee: it is all Oli's fault. In 2018, when Oli first time made top 4 in WCS Montral (beating HeroMarine), I was so inspired and decided to continue my SC2 career. My life would have been so much better without Oli.

So, I've tried Stormgate and while I understand while the game is in Early Access (so things may change overtime) , it ran quite badly on my PC with janky camera movements and framerate issues which I suspect that it is due to my computer's specs . Looking back, this brings back a point to why StarCraft and StarCraft II are still popular as E-sports to this day. Scalability.

Scalability refers to the ability of games to run on a wide variety of specs. This is important for E-sports as they need new players to be able to get into the game without any issue at all on a wide variety of platforms, ranging from potato spec computers to purpose built gaming rigs, growing the player base .

This is the main reason besides other stuff (like software pirating and very bad relations with Japan thanks to World War II during the time that StarCraft came out in South Korea ) as it can run on proverbially anything whereas others like Total Annhilation needed some high specs at that time, allowing new players to run StarCraft decently without framerate issues with even proverbial low spec computers. This is essential to getting new players to the game and StarCraft II continues the idea of having a wide spec base for games to run decently without performance problems, providing a decently sized player base for people to drop in even with lower spec machines.

If you need to make an E-sport, you need the game to be able to run on a wide variety of platforms to attract players interested in the game. Scalability is needed to ensure that people can join in, even those with lower spec computers and grow the player base.

That's my computer's specs. Quite a potato. And yes, it had difficulty running Stormgate.
