A community for real (not satire) strange news!

Inspired by /r/offbeat because I always enjoyed the odd headline that made me think "huh, that's weird".

I came up with the idea for this community in the shower. What if I want to watch a movie with people from all over the world, and talk about it in a live thread? Live threads for sporting events and TV shows are pretty common, but I don't think I've seen it applied to movies before. The concepts are simple:

  1. Create an announcement post 2-12 hours before you want to host a watch party. This gives people time to find a copy of the movie, if they're interested in participating. If you have the means, you can also mention that you'll be streaming the movie on the official Discord server for those that don't have access to the movie.

  2. Create the live thread 30-60 minutes before the watch party starts. If you're going to be streaming on Discord, be sure to include the link to the server invite as well for anyone that wants to join in at the last minute.

  3. At the designated time, everyone presses play, and discusses the movie in the live thread.

I'm not sure on what the self promotion rules are for this community. If this isn't allowed then feel free to downvote I guess :/

Hello from your southern neighbor. I am a huge fan of Kids In the Hall, Corner Gas, Strange Brew, etc.. While these are older shows and movies I still have a great appreciation for Canadian humor in all entertainment mediums. I am surprised I haven't come across a community for discussing Canadian entertainment or something thereof. As I am not as versed as many on the subject I would be hesitant to create a community myself, but would enjoy having one to participate in and find new shows and whatnot. Just something to think about. Eh?

Hi everyone, after being on this platform for a minute I noticed there wasn’t a catchall “parents” sub. There was a few dad ones so I wanted to make one for everyone to come and chat with other parents. Chat and Ask Questions! All caretakers are welcome!

Infrared photography uses modified cameras, filters, and/or specialized film to capture near infrared light that is outside the visible range. Originally used for scientific, agriculture, and notably for military surveillance, but later was deployed for artistic effect due to its distinctive rendering of foliage and skies.

[email protected] is a... spiritual successor?... of what r/casualconversation was a super long time ago.

Come post random bullshit that's on your mind, and then talk with others about random bullshit that's on their mind.

I'm having problems uploading images, so I'll pretty the place up with a banner and whatnot another time.

[email protected] is a replacement for r/SpeedOfLobsters It is essentially humour through editing images with text by removing letters or words to make them say funny things.

I decided to set Lemmyfi.com to public to see how it goes. I still get some errors in the console about mastodon but I think that's a different problem.

If you're still scrobbling your music even though it's 2023 and not 2006, head over to [email protected]!

EDIT Oh no! Last.fm communities already exists over on feddit.de and lemmy.world. Unless you have the instances blocked, you should go play over at either [email protected] or [email protected]

I created the c/whowouldwin community here because I really liked to participate in "the old world".

It's a community to ask questions about fictional scenarios and battles and discuss the question who would win in this situation and why?

It can be about fictional or real world characters.

I apologize if self-promotion isn't allowed here, I didn't see anything about it in the sidebar.
