This is really the problem with our massive, incredibly non-dense city (as with every other north american city). We can create these pedestrian friendly pockets, but it's still not going to eliminate people's need for a car. So it becomes "drive and park at this place where you don't need a car", which is a little ironic. Still way better than nothing, and I'm all for it, but we need to simultaneously be addressing our zoning and transportation plans if we want to actually get serious about this.
