What are you all hoping to work towards for 2025? Not so much New Years Resolutions but more along your short, or long term goals.

Personally, I have 3 goals:

  1. Focus on uni/studying, getting my placements done and ensuring I am making the right decision for a career change.

  2. Write the next two books in the VDV series and release 3 of them (2 to be written and one already written).

  3. Take steps and make plans to move back to Melbourne/Victoria, hopefully being able to do so by end of 2025.

I think those are great, realistic goals!!

Mine are:

  1. finish my cert III, and start the cert IV in vet nursing
  2. obtain part-time work, preferably in the animal industry
  3. get over the writer's block I have regarding my poetry; the best ones always come just before I fall asleep and don't have a notepad. 3.1. get a pen and notepad for my bedside lol
[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

re: notepad. I am always thinking up great ideas while driving or, like you, before sleep. And it's always "Ahh I'll remember it."

Do I remember it? No.

Great goals, and do-able!

I think mine are:

  1. Develop an exercise habit of some sort. Anything, really, even just regular walking. I used to do heaps of incidental exercise (like riding my bike to work) but now I don’t, and I really need to do something to help with stress management
  2. Start to investigate other jobs. I’m lucky that I have a good job and work with (mostly) great people, but I’m pretty burnt out. But also nervous about change and not sure my skills are transferable.
Saying ‘investigate’ makes it seem less scary, lol

Change is indeed scary, but you got this. If I can do it, anyone can that's for damn sure.

  1. Try to get back down to around 100kg....currently at 110 so only need a few good shits.

  2. Take every course or training offered through work to beef up my CV and get a permanent higher position.

  3. Call out shitty and entitled behaviour in public more.

Have a major Xmas lunch and you'll be right under 100 lol.

Probs a second kid, hopefully without the stress of making the first. Continue to save for my dream car. Improve overall fitness (good news there is I have a very low starting point so the only way is up!)

  1. Motivate some of these fatties on here to move more and eat healthier. Myself included. After I finish the tin of Danish biscuits on top of my fridge.

  2. More travel

  3. Support my daughter who will be doing VCE next year.

Thanks. Good luck to me. She can be a nightmare at times.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I’m up for any motivation you can provide, lol (says the person who’s just had a wine to help deal with the dusting & chores)

And my kid’s also starting vce so I should add that one, too

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Hahaha. Just letting you know it's pizza night tonight because it's that time of month and I don't care.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Good luck!

What kind of movement do you think will float your boat?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Strength and resistance training

  1. Get a new job.
  2. Lose some weight (such a cliche).
[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Nothing wrong with a cliche being a motivation point. Healthy life is healthy life.

  1. Try and save money

  2. Be happier and less stressed about all aspects of my life.

  3. Be a touch more active.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Those are admirable and definitely achievable goals!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)
  1. Run a 5km.

  2. Feel more certain about my career path by doing further study / getting work experience.

  3. Make at least one new friend.

  4. Make my retail job a secondary job.

  5. Cry fewer times than I did this year!

Edit: I've noticed a lot of people wanting to start an exercise habit! Maybe we could do a daily or weekly exercise accountability thread?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’m pretty settled in where we are now. Likely won’t be moving again. We have lived overseas and all around Australia (even Tassie!)

It’s time to stay put for a minute and looking at getting some upgrade projects around the house completed. The new cladding was just finished off today and looks great.

Laying low and avoiding drama. “ Being present “ as they say.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Where have you enjoyed living the most and the least?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Melbourne is the best and Darwin is good but it takes a special individual to embrace that small town heat for anything more than a few years.

  1. take dating a bit more seriously
  2. socialise more
  3. perform live more
  4. finish saving my deposit and buy a place (hopefully by march)
  5. get a better job
  6. Go on an overseas trip.
[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What kind of performing do you do?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm a musician. So it's a split between solo stuff and playing in bands.

I sing and play guitar.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's so awesome. Good luck with it. I hope you do take the plunge and do more.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I really appreciate it. Since I got into corporate work, balancing art and work life has been difficult.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I totally get that. It's hard to make time for the things we love to do.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago
  1. Finish my fucking degree
  2. Work on improving my finances
  3. Leaving my current rental and starting on a plan towards housing stability
  4. Not spend winter in Melbourne

Many others that I hope will follow on from that.
