Lemmy is going to look more appealing as time goes on.

I left after they closed off the API and shut down third party apps. I could never go back, whilst Lemmy hasn't always offered the same amount of content, its always still offered good content, plus I know I'm guilt free of supporting Reddit and what a shit show they've become ๐Ÿ™‚

I got used to Lemmy eventually and like it. I spend less time scrolling which is good. Now just to ditch Instagram....

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

I was in meme withdraw for a bit adjusting to the slower content. I even touched grass that one time.

I deleted my Instagram a couple weeks ago out of anger and spite when the TikTok ban briefly went into effect. I also uninstalled TikTok and kept it uninstalled even after it was unbanned and really only have Lemmy and YouTube (not shorts). It's been a nice reset for my brain. My deleting Instagram has made a couple friends a bit sad because they liked to send me memes, but we still text so honestly I haven't missed it at all. All that to say, I highly recommend deleting Instagram.

How do you get YouTube without shorts

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I ignore the shorts. The app still has them lol. Sorry if that was unclear. I just choose to watch normal length content on there. I think you can use NewPipe and filter out shorts content with your settings though, if that's something that interests you.

Same but with piefed. It's the same communities. Love the extended capabilities on both platforms. And fedi integration makes it so anyone can use anything.

Be the change.

I know the struggle though I can't get anyone on Signal beyond my wife and one friend.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Already am. Nobody follows me.

[โ€“] [email protected] 29 points 3 days ago

I intentionally sabotaged my account to get banned so that I couldn't go back. Lol

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

I loved Apollo. Now I love Voyager

[โ€“] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The thing is that the more people use Lemmy the more content there will be

[โ€“] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago

And there has been. I also joined Lemmy after the API shutdown and even then there were hardly any new posts, and barely any discussion on them. Now it seems that I have a brand new front page at least once a day and there's plenty of discussion on the posts.

Same, but then I immediately returned to reddit. Today I suddenly realized I wanted to leave reddit, so here I am again. Any good tips for Android apps?

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I use Jerboa currently. I was using Relay for reddit and the two aren't really similar, I just switched to it because I saw it recommended the most when I was leaving reddit during the API fiasco. I haven't tried any of the other apps because I'm used to this one now and it gets the job done.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Summit is da bomb

Any good tips for Android apps?

Sync, I used it for reddit before they fucked the API. And now I use it for Lemmy. It's one of the smoothest apps I've ever used.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I really loved sync for reddit, but development on the app is pretty inconsistent and there's currently some major bugs/unsupported features. For example I can't currently view comments on posts from SJW.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hmm I don't have any issues like that, moved over on the initial sync for Reddit closing

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Apparently it's an issue with newer versions of the Lemmy software. I can see posts from SJW and the number of comments, but if I click through on them I can't see any of the comments. It's been reported on the discord but no updates. There's also other stuff like the fact that sync can't deal with showing separate upvotes and downvotes, so you have to just show score. Lots of little random glitches from differences between reddit and Lemmy.

The author of sync basically goes completely off the grid for long periods of time (presumably due to irl priorities) and doesn't work on sync during these periods. It's always been a thing with sync. But Lemmy changes more frequently than reddit so the bugs can be more frustrating. I'm considering changing apps, honestly, because not being able to see comments on my home instance is driving me crazy. But I do really like sync's interface.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah the consistent interface has been easy to keep using. I tried a couple others but nothing really felt right. Probably going to be worth checking out new options at some point, just haven't had enough issues with sync to really try

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What is SJW? I love Sync for Lemmy.

Voyager is my go-to.

I see sync recommended too, but I would recommend against that one. I had to buy it for reddit twice because the dev invalidated the license and took away premium features on an upgrade. So I'm not using their shit ever again.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

The 2 specific communities I want to read without a mirroring one in the fediverse I still read through RSS.

Yead is better than using web or their app. And still get my fix.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

I use Boost for Lemmy (paid for, so no ads etc.). It's what I used for Reddit, so the transition was super easy, but there's lots of FOSS Lemmy clients on F-Droid that are good too.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Summit is pretty good, and the dev is very responsive in [email protected]

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I've used Connect since I came over a year ago. I used Joey back on Reddit.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I also use Boost as I was using that back on Reddit. Voyager is also an excellent Lemmy app too.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

interstellar for mbin

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Yeah that's when I left, well before when they started talking about it.

It's not the same which is great
