oh we've tried many permutations over the past two decades. Current best worker is I kondo all the shit into his basket, stacked by location (that's just an added structure pleasure for me right there) for him to put away and put away his socks and underpants in a fifo but easily visible for selection (sock fashionista) because he just cannot get a handle on it.

We've had a rough time of it lately so I figured I'd put away all his washing since I had spare spoons and that ended up in half an hour sorting his running gear and pyjamas because at some point his squirrel brain panicked and shoved everything into the nearest void. Found a pair of socks he's been looking for since last year lol. We jive well on his running gear though 'cos I sort that by texture / purpose (eg: wicking / cotton / tank tops / lightweight jackets) so he knows what vibe he's after according to weather.

Let's streamline this shit. Throw out all the socks. Buy 2 different kinds of socks. Say workout socks and everyday socks but buy 20 pairs of each. When they are washed they get thrown in a drawer or basket.

If he needs dress socks, buy a couple and put them away safely.

That's punishing the disability though. You make accommodations with neurodivergence. Dude loves his patterned socks, and he shall have them.

He likewise accommodates me

Sorry. I just reread your comment and realised he loves his socks.

I have another idea. Not sure how many he has but maybe keep his favourite 10 pairs handy but put the others somewhere else. Still accessible but away so there's less to choose from everyday. Then when he's sick of those10, you can swap some over to his everyday basket.

nah, we have a system that works.
