Went to visit this godforsaken place and was terrified by the amount of racist/xenophobic/nazi/misogynistic/incel/far-right posts and comments.

Was it always like that? Am I too used to being on Lemmy (or Fediverse in general)? Is it just my feed or is it like this for everybody?

My feed on Instagram is filled with Nature / Science Documentaries, Comic and Cartoons Reels (Pokemon, Tom and Jerry, etc). But sometimes comments will exhibit the usual shenanigans (i.e. "I don't believe in evolution"), or accounts that used to be legit suddenly devolve into advertisement spam.

I make sure my preferences are kept by liking the content / posts that cater to them so the algorithm shows me more of them. Of course, I also set a timer on Android so that I don't spend too much time on the platform (20 mins a day)
