Wow, that's pretty incredible that it hadn't reached you all these years. Slay the Spire's predecessor is Dream Quest, which, in combination with the tabletop card game Dominion, spawned a whole subgenre of deck-building games.

Indies' Lies, Pirates Outlaws, Monster Train, Tainted Grail: Conquest, Griftlands, and so many more are all direct descendants of StS. It was as revolutionary to indie gaming as FTL: Faster Than Light and Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story) were in their respective genres.

So there's a little bit of indie gaming history for you.

Yeah, I don't have the energy to sift through 500 garbage indie games to find the one gem. ;) As a rule, I don't bother with indie titles.

That's ironic because I've generally gotten way more enjoyment out of specific indie games than AAA. Whatever floats your boat, I s'pose.

Oh hello the-exact-opposite-of-me lmao

All of those games mentioned slap harder than 95% of the AAA games released in the past ten years imo and you could buy six for what a AAA game costs these days.

The trick is to pay attention to reviews and not waste time on the garbage. When a game is 97% recommended out of 150,000+ reviews it might be worth checking out.

Yeah, you can't trust those others because troll reviews will vote up "click the duck".

You can check negative steam reviews. On games that are hard not to like, the negative reviews are of very low quality or praise the game.

That said, the most interesting games for you specifically won't be overwhelmingly positively rated. But that is hardly a problem if you are content with triple-A.

Steam is way better now at weeding those out of the stats that show on the store page. Vote brigading still happens of course but a couple minutes of skimming top reviews will make that obvious.
