It's not a coup, he won the election... And they've already selected who will replace him; JD Vance, Peter Thiels candidate). But also, most of American politics was already being determined by lobbyists.
All that said, Trump has a cult of personality. Pretending like his replacement will just automatically have that in a way that's as compelling to conservatives and MAGA types makes you sound very average in your ability to understand, and like you have your head up your ass.
You may not like him, and may believe he can't read (despite his prolific Twitter activities, which he clearly writes himself), and no doubt you believe any number of other baited, easy to digest, easy to spread, easy to debunk, smooth brained conspiracy theories... But he is actually a populist.
Populists with a cult of personality get a certain result. Likewise, you don't spend that much time being mentored by Roy Cohn and not learn a thing or two about avoiding the law, and staying out of jail. I suspect Roy first floated the idea of Trump attempting a political career, an idea that's been public since the 1980s.
