The Calgary Flames should (eventually) retire Mikael Backlund’s number

On March 2, 2024, the Calgary Flames will retire Mikka Kiprusoff’s number 34. When it comes to jersey retirements, there’s no clear-cut requirement that qualifies a player. Generally-speaking, it’s meant to commemorate the individual accomplishments of a key individual in franchise history, and allows the hockey club and its fans to enjoy some good vibes…

Gio only won a norris and left to chase the cup elsewhere. Yet there was an article the other day saying he should have his number retired.

I'm not really in favour of either one getting their numbers retired.... Seems like a low bar that is the result of decades of mediocrity

Yeah as a long time fan who's pretty much had it with this ownership group and the half assed product they've put on the ice for the last decade, well put. If we're talking about guys who are heart and soul guys, but have barely won anything getting retired, this franchise is doomed.
