The issue is engineering to hype. Just use microservices or monoliths where they make sense. Same goes for cloud and onprem/etc, nixos or ansible or terraform or whatever.

Mixing modes always sucks, but not as badly as kludging a terrible architecture onto something that doesn't suit it.
