Two things I've been looking at:
Screenmate to handle your nav intreface - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/teslogic/screenmate-the-ultimate-extra-computer-for-your-tesla/
and Openpilot for driver assist features. - https://www.comma.ai/shop/comma-3x
It seems the Comma 3x with open pilot is a live working system that can be integrated in to Tesla's today to replace their autopilot functionality. Screenmate, I don't know about, haven't looked at it as much myself but it sounds like it is possible.

My one concern is, if I disable the Tesla's integrated data connections from which it normally gets it's software updates, would that in some way disable the car after some time? Though it seems to me that would be the same situation as Tesla going out of business. I'm more concerned about a software update coming along that disables these third party mods from functioning.
