Antarctic sea ice has usually been able to recover in winter. But this time it's different, with levels taking a sharp downward turn at a time of year when sea ice usually forms reliably โ€” and experts are worried.

Thanks for this chart. Somehow it makes it more real & more scary.

There's a deep dive in the sea ice before 2023 that has recovered and we can now see the sea ice reducing again. Is my understanding correct?
